aeruginosa to utilize different phosphorus sources in real-world scenario, and both phosphorus source and content are determinant factors on the growth and physiological behaviour of M. aeruginosa. Given the complicated and vast phosphorus pool in the natural environment, phosphorus resources might significantly alter the abundance and physiological behaviour of M. aeruginosa and other bloom-forming algae, then influence the phytoplanktonic community structure and affect the possibility and intensity of algal bloom. Our work hints the underestimation of the restriction factors in lake eutrophication and provides a new tool to study the driven forces of phytoplanktonic community dynamics as phosphorus from both internal and external sources.Antarctic trace element records could provide important insights into the impact of human activities on the environment over the past few centuries. In this study, we investigated the atmospheric concentrations of 14 representative heavy metals (Al, As, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Pb, Sb, Sr, Tl and V) from 174 samples collected in a 4-m snow pit at Dome Argus (Dome A) on the East Antarctic Plateau, covering the period from 1950 to 2016 A.D. We found great variability in the annual concentration of all metals. The crustal enrichment factors suggest that the concentrations of some heavy metals (Cd, Sb, Cu, As and Pb) were likely influenced by anthropogenic activities in recent decades. An analysis of source regions suggests that heavy metal pollution at Dome A was largely caused by human activities in Australia and South America (e.g. check details mining production, leaded gasoline). Based on the relationship between the trace elements fluxes and sea ice concentration (SIC), sea surface temperature (SST) and annual mean air temperature at 2 m above the ground (T2m), our analysis shows that deposition and transport of atmospheric aerosol at Dome A were influenced by circum-Antarctic atmospheric circulations. The Xenopus model offers many advantages for investigation of the molecular, cellular, and behavioral mechanisms underlying embryo development. Moreover, Xenopus oocytes and embryos have been extensively used to study developmental toxicity and human diseases in response to various environmental chemicals. This review first summarizes recent advances in using Xenopus as a vertebrate model to study distinct types of tissue/organ development following exposure to environmental toxicants, chemical reagents, and pharmaceutical drugs. Then, the successful use of Xenopus as a model for diseases, including fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, autism, epilepsy, and cardiovascular disease, is reviewed. The potential application of Xenopus in genetic and chemical screening to protect against embryo deficits induced by chemical toxicants and related diseases is also discussed.Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) of semiconductor family gained significant attention due to increasing trends in the optoelectronic and thermo-physical applications. In current work, we reported electronic, optical, transport and thermodynamical properties of spinel oxides ZnGaO2, [ZnGaO2]Mn3+ and [ZnGaO2]Rh3+ compounds. Based on DFT, we employed first-principles calculations implemented in Wien 2k using the modified-Becke-Johnson (mBJ) on parent spinel and generalized-gradient-approximation plus Hubbard potential U (GGA + U) on doped materials, respectively. The calculated band structure shows insulating nature of parent compound, while doped material observed semiconducting nature contains direct band gap for both spin channels with band gaps of [ZnGaO2]Mn3+ (0.59 up, 2.4 eV dn) and [ZnGaO2]Rh3+ (2.1 eV up/dn) respectively. The electronic and optical results reveal that hybridization occurred mainly due to O-p/Zn, Mn-d, Rh-d and Ga-s orbitals. It is analyzed that Mn-doped material shows good absorption in the visible region while other are good in UV region. The effective masses of spinel oxides are also computed at high symmetry directions hence varied nonlinearly with the doping. The stability of materials is checked by calculating formation energies which indicate Mn-doped spinel oxide is most stable as that of others. The thermoelectric properties of spinel oxides were carried out by Post-DFT (Boltztrap) calculations. Large values of Seebeck coefficient and power factor of Mn-doped spinel oxide indicate that this material can be used for thermoelectric devices. The thermodynamical properties are calculated by quasi-harmonic Debye model implemented in GIBBS 2 code. Moreover, the pressure and temperature dependence of all (TD) parameters of investigated spinel oxides are analyzed using quasi-harmonic Debye model.FOXG1 syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by mutations in the FOXG1 gene. Here, an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line was generated from human dermal fibroblasts of an individual with the c.490dupG (p.Glu154fs) mutation in the FOXG1 gene. Fibroblasts were reprogrammed using non-integrating episomal plasmids and pluripotency marker expression was confirmed by both immunocytochemistry and quantitative PCR in the resultant iPSC line. There were no karyotypic abnormalities and the cell line successfully differentiated into all three germ layers. This cell line may prove useful in the study of the pathogenic mechanisms that underpin FOXG1 syndrome.Microglia are resident tissue macrophages of the central nervous system (CNS) that arise from erythromyeloid progenitors during embryonic development. They play essential roles in CNS development, homeostasis and response to disease. Since microglia are difficult to procure from the human brain, several protocols have been developed to generate microglia-like cells from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). However, some concerns remain over the purity and quality of in vitro generated microglia. Here, we describe a new protocol that does not require co-culture with neural cells and yields cultures of 100% P2Y12+ 95% TMEM119+ ramified human microglia-like cells (hiPSC-MG). In the presence of neural precursor cell-conditioned media, hiPSC-MG expressed high levels of human microglia signature genes, including SALL1, CSF1R, P2RY12, TMEM119, TREM2, HEXB and SIGLEC11, as revealed by whole-transcriptome analysis. Stimulation of hiPSC-MG with lipopolysaccharide resulted in downregulation of P2Y12 expression, induction of IL1B mRNA expression and increase in cell capacitance.
