Various wound closure techniques have been described in literature using traditional non-absorbable suture materials. These include like synthetic absorbable sutures, surgical staples and tissue adhesives. GO-203 datasheet Cyanoacrylates are among the most commonly used biocompatible tissue adhesives. To evaluate and compare intraoral wound healing using 3-0 silk sutures and n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate after alveoloplasty. Materials and Methods A total of 20 patients requiring bilateral alveoloplasty in the same arch (upper or lower) were included in this study. Patients with any pre-existing pathology or systemic disease were excluded. After alveoloplasty was performed, the wound was closed using 3-0 braided silk sutures on one side, and using n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate bio adhesive on the other side. Patients were evaluated based on the following parameters time required to achieve wound closure; the incidence of immediate and postoperative hemostasis; the time to the use of the first rescue medication; the side where pain first arises; and the side where wound healing begins first. Results Compared to 3-0 silk sutures, cyanoacrylate demonstrated better hemostatic properties, reduced operative time, reduced postoperative pain and better wound healing. Conclusion These data suggest that cyanoacrylate glue is an adequate alternative to conventional sutures to close the surgical wound after alveoloplasty, and better than are 3-0 silk sutures. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of PTX and tocopherol in patients diagnosed with osteoradionecrosis (ORN), bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ), and chronic osteomyelitis using digital panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods This study was performed in 25 patients who were prescribed PTX and tocopherol for treatment of ORN, BRONJ, and chronic osteomyelitis between January 2014 and May 2018 in Seoul National University Dental Hospital. Radiographic densities of the dental panorama were compared prior to starting PTX and tocopherol, at 3 months, and at 6 months after prescription. Radiographic densities were measured using Adobe Photoshop CS6 (Adobe System Inc., USA). The artificial eruption of embedded teeth is the process of directing an impacted tooth into normal occlusion. This procedure is currently attracting attention, with the aim of finding the best technique to use according to each case. This article presents key information regarding impacted incisors, canines, and premolars. In addition, we describe the most common techniques to use for artificial eruption, the open and closed techniques. We review the literature concerning these techniques and outline how clinicians can manage every type of impacted tooth. Copyright © 2020 The Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related dacryoadenitis and sialoadenitis (IgG4-DS) are part of a multiorgan fibroinflammatory condition of unknown etiology termed IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD), which has been recognized as a single diagnostic entity for less than 15 years. Histopathologic examination is critical for diagnosis of IgG4-RD. CD4+ T and B cells, including IgG4-expressing plasma cells, constitute the major inflammatory cell populations in IgG4-RD and are thought to cause organ damage and tissue fibrosis. Patients with IgG4-RD who have active, untreated disease exhibit significant increase of IgG4-secreting plasmablasts in the blood. Considerable insight into the immunologic mechanisms of IgG4-RD has been achieved in the last decade using novel molecular biology approaches, including next-generation and single-cell RNA sequencing. Exploring the interactions between CD4+ T cells and B lineage cells is critical for understanding the pathophysiology of IgG4-RD. Establishment of pathogenic T cell clones and identification of antigens specific to these clones constitutes the first steps in determining the pathogenesis of the disease. Herein, the clinical features and mechanistic insights regarding pathogenesis of IgG4-RD were reviewed. Initially, percutaneous BAHAs were used for many decades. Transcutaneous BAHAs were started later to overcome problems associated with percutaneous ones. The present report gives the outcome of bilateral BAHA in a patient with percutaneous BAHA on one side and transcutaneous BAHA on the other. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) of minor salivary glands accounts for less than 3% of all head and neck tumors. It is a benign tumor. Palate is the most common site followed by upper lips. Tongue is an unusual site. We present a case report of a 35-year-old male patient who presented with a mass in the ventral surface of the tongue that was diagnosed as PA on FNAC and was treated by surgical excision. Patient was followed up and no recurrence was noted. © Association of Otolaryngologists of India 2019.Usher's syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by dual sensory impairment involving both the ears and eyes. Cochlear implantation paves a way to restore hearing loss in such individuals but poor vision among these patients poses additional challenges for the habilitationists. This study aimed to compare the habilitation outcomes and hearing-related quality of life scores of cochlear implantees having Usher syndrome with age-matched cochlear implantees with no such syndromic association. 27 patients aged 1-6 years with Usher syndrome underwent cochlear Implantation over a period of 10 years from 2006 to 2016 and were included in this study along with an age-matched cohort of 30 implantees with no additional disabilities. Category of Auditory Performance (CAP) and Speech Intelligibility Rating (SIR) scores were compared at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months respectively. Glasgow Benefit Inventory and Health Utility Index (HUI 3.0) questionnaires were used to assess the hearing-related quality of life in both groups at 1 year post implantation.
