The short-term efficacy of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been established. Although continuous follow-up and sustained exercise training is important to maintain the effects, the long-term efficacy of PR without frequent supervised training remains unclear. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the long-term efficacy of PR with home-based or low frequent maintenance program on exercise capacity and health related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with COPD.

It's necessary to investigate the effect of thalidomide on the gene promoter activation of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) induced by transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in human embryonic lung fibroblast (HELF).

The gene vector of pGL3-CTGFP containing human CTGF gene promoter was constructed and transfected into HELF cells. We used different TGF-β1 (0, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20 µg/L respectively) to stimulate HELF to identify the optimal concentration for gene promoter of CTGF. The activity of luciferase was measured to observe the effect of TGF-β1 and THALIDOMIDE on the activity of CTGF gene promoter.

The relative luciferase activity increased significantly with the stimulation of TGF-β1, and the relative luciferase activity peaked in the 5 µg/L TGF-β1 group (all P<0.01). The thalidomide inhibited the TGF-β1-induced activation of CTGF gene promoter in HELF, and the effect peaked in the 25 µg/L group (all P<0.001).

Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). However, unbalanced regional development and different research designs lead to greater heterogeneity of hypertension data in China, and lack of a summary of long-term variation trends. The aim was to estimate the pooled prevalence of hypertension and to describe the secular trend in hypertension.

Literatures, related to the prevalence of hypertension among Chinese adults, were searched through both English and Chinese databases. The pooled prevalence was estimated with random effects. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression was conducted to address heterogeneity. Continuous fractional polynomial regression model and compound model were used to estimate the trend of hypertension prevalence with time.

A total of 18 studies were included and the whole population was 9, 191, 121. The pooled prevalence of hypertension among Chinese adults was 24.3% (95% CI 18.8-29.8%), increasing from the west to the east. Hypertension was more common in male than in female (27.8% vs. 25.1%) and in urban population than in rural population (27.0% vs. Diphenhydramine supplier 26.0%).
