The observed Zn2+-promoted TDP-43 CTF's solid-like phase separation can be relevant to the Zn2+ dyshomeostasis in ALS and FTLD-TDP.Hydrogel-based piezoresistive sensors have high practical value in many revolutionary applications, such as intelligent and electronic devices. However, with existing hydrogels, it is very difficult to achieve a combination of good mechanical properties, stable conductivity, and simple/green fabrication method. In this study, hybrid organic-inorganic nanoparticles (lignin-silver hybrid nanoparticles, Lig-Ag NPs) were synthesized by using alkaline lignin as the organic component and silver nanoparticle (Ag NPs) as the inorganic component. Interaction between the lignin and Ag NPs leads to the composite of hybrid nanoparticles that not only decreased the release of Ag NPs but also generated dynamically stable semi-quinone radicals in lignin. After compositing with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix, Lig-Ag NPs provided strong sacrificial hydrogen bonds and facilitated the delivery of electronic. Benefiting from these structural features and the pore-forming effect of ammonia (from Lig-Ag NPs solution), the PVA/Lig-Ag NPs hydrogel exhibits outstanding compressibility, pressure sensitivity, and stability of signal response. This study provides a green and simple design strategy for piezoresistive pressure sensors based on nanocomposite hydrogel.Lignin peroxidase (LiP) seems to be a catalyst for cleaving high-redox potential non-phenolic compounds with an oxidative cleavage of CC and COC bonds. LiP has been picked to seek a practical and cost-effective alternative to the sustainable mitigation of diverse environmental contaminants. LiP has been an outstanding tool for catalytic cleaning and efficient mitigation of environmental pollutants, including lignin, lignin derivatives, dyes, endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs), and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) for the past couple of decades. The extended deployment of LiP has proved to be a promising method for catalyzing these environmentally related hazardous pollutants of supreme interest. click here The advantageous potential and capabilities to act at different pH and thermostability offer its working tendencies in extended environmental engineering applications. Such advantages led to the emerging demand for LiP and increasing requirements in industrial and biotechnological sectors. The multitude of the ability attributed to LiP is triggered by its stability in xenobiotic and non-phenolic compound degradation. However, over the decades, the catalytic activity of LiP has been continuing in focus enormously towards catalytic functionalities over the available physiochemical, conventional, catalyst mediated technology for catalyzing such molecules. To cover this literature gap, this became much more evident to consider the catalytic attributes of LiP. In this review, the existing capabilities of LiP and other competencies have been described with recent updates. Furthermore, numerous recently emerged applications, such as textile effluent treatment, dye decolorization, catalytic elimination of pharmaceutical and EDCs compounds, have been discussed with suitable examples. Two samples of N-(2-hydroxy)-propyl-3-trimethylammonium, O-palmitoyl chitosan (DPCat) with different average degrees of quaternization named as DPCat35 (DQ¯ = 35%) and DPCat80 (DQ¯ = 80%), were successfully synthesized by reacting glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTMAC) with O-palmitoyl chitosan (DPCh) derivative (DS¯ = 12%). Such amphiphilic derivatives of chitosan were fully water-soluble at 1.0 less then pH less then 12.0 and showed significant electrostatic stability enhancement of a self-assembly micellar nanostructure (100-320 nm) due to its positively-charged out-layer. In vitro mucoadhesive and cytotoxicity essays toward healthy fibroblast cells (Balb/C 3T3 clone A31 cell), human prostate cancer (DU145) and liver cancer (HepG2/C3A) cell lines revealed that the biological properties of DPCat derivatives were strongly dependent on DQ¯. Additionally, DPCat35 had better interactions with the biological tissue and with mucin glycoproteins at pH 7.4 as well as exhibited potential to be used on the development of drug delivery systems for prostate and liver cancer treatment.Carboxymethyl pachymaran (CMP) was prepared from Poria cocos polysaccharide by carboxymethylation. Two types of CMP (CMP-1 and CMP-2) were further purified by DEAE-52 anion-exchange chromatography. The structure characteristics and immunomodulatory activities of CMP-1 and CMP-2 were investigated. CMP-1 was determined as β-(1 → 3)-d-glucan. A β-(1 → 3)-d-glucan backbone structure was also found in CMP-2, which was mainly consistent of mannose and glucose, with the mole ratio of 0.031. The molecular weight of CMP-1 was 126.1 kDa with a 30.4 nm irregular sphere in distilled water. However, the molecular weight of CMP-2 was 172.6 kDa in a 19.9 nm spherical structure in water solution. Both CMP-1 and CMP-2 had triple helical structure, which can promote the proliferation and the phagocytosis of macrophages. Moreover, CMP-1 and CMP-2 both could improve the secretions of NO, TNF-α and IL-6 by increasing the expression of iNOS, TNF-α and IL-6 mRNA, but CMP-1 exhibited a stronger immunomodulatory ability than that of CMP-2. Our results indicated that CMP-1 and CMP-2 can act as potential immunomodulatory agents.Native starches are unsuitable for most industrial applications. Therefore, they are modified to improve their application in the industry. Starch may be modified using enzymatic, genetic, chemical, and physical methods. Due to the demand for safe foods by consumers, researchers are focusing on the use of cheap, safe and environmentally friendly methods such as the use of physical means for starch modification. Microwave heating of starch is a promising physical method for starch modification due to its advantages such as homogeneous operation throughout the whole sample volume, shorter processing time, greater penetration depth and better product quality. More recently, the use of synergistic methods for starch modification is being encouraged because they confer better functionality on starch than single methods. This review summarizes the present knowledge on the structure and physicochemical properties of starches from different botanical origins modified using microwave heating alone and in combination with other starch modification methods.
