VAKSIN
Vaksin merupakan suatu bahan yg disuntikan ke tubuh untuk memperoleh kekebalan terhadap penyakit tertentu. Bahan utamanya adalah bakteri dan virus yang sudah dilemahkan. Kata 'sudah dilemahkan' bukan berarti mikroorganismenya tidak bisa muncul lagi. Tetapi ibaratnya mereka sedang 'tidur' dan bisa bangun. Vaksin memang bisa memberikan kekebalan tubuh, tapi ada aturannya. Salah satu aturan utamanya adalah kondisi tubuh harus benar-benar fit saat divaksinasi. Kalau divaksin saat sakit bukannya kebal malah makin sakit. Proses membentuk kekebalan tubuhnya juga tidak terjadi secara instant.
Tujuan dari vaksin adalah dengan memasukan virus atau bakteri melalui vaksin sejak awal sistem imun diharapkan sudah mengenala si penyakit yang bakal muncul. Jadi saat virus dan bakteri asli (bukan dari vaksin) datang berkunjung, tubuh kita sudah tau bagaimana cara untuk melawannya. Inilah yg disebut kebal. Kalau vaksinasinya tidak tepat, vaksin bisa bikin nyeri otot, bengkak, bahkan penyakit yg harusnya dilawan vaksin itu sendiri.
Vaksin merupakan bagian dari imunisasi, tapi imunisasi belum tentu menggunakan vaksin saja. Dari vitamin misalnya. Karena imunisasi adalah proses untuk mendapatkan kekebalan terhadap penyakit tertentu. Sedangkan vaksin untuk mendapatkan efek kekebalan terhadap penyakit tertentu.
