Lauraceae species are widely represented in the Amazon, presenting a significant essential oil yield, large chemical variability, various biological applications, and high economic potential. Its taxonomic classification is difficult due to the accentuated morphological uniformity, even among taxa from a different genus. For this reason, the present work aimed to find chemical and molecular markers to discriminate Aniba species collected in the Pará State (Brazil). The chemical composition of the essential oils from Aniba canelilla, A. parviflora, A. rosaeodora, and A. terminalis were grouped by multivariate statistical analysis. The major compounds were rich in benzenoids and terpenoids such as 1-nitro-2-phenylethane (88.34-70.85%), linalool (15.2-75.3%), α-phellandrene (36.0-51.8%), and β-phellandrene (11.6-25.6%). DNA barcodes were developed using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) nuclear region, and the matK, psbA-trnH, rbcL, and ycf1 plastid regions. The markers psbA-trnH and ITS showed the best discrimination for the species, and the phylogenic analysis in the three- (rbcL + matK + trnH - psbA and rbcL + matK + ITS) and four-locus (rbcL + matK + trnH - psbA + ITS) combination formed clades with groups strongly supported by the Bayesian inference (BI) (PP1.00) and maximum likelihood (ML) (BS ≥ 97%). Therefore, based on statistical multivariate and phylogenetic analysis, the results showed a significant correlation between volatile chemical classes and genetic characteristics of Aniba species.Bayberry is an important fruit tree native to the subtropical regions of China. However, a systematic twig blight disease caused by Pestalotiopsis versicolor and P. microspora, resulted in the death of the whole tree of bayberry. The main variety Dongkui is highly sensitive to the twig blight disease, but the variety Zaojia is very highly resistant to the disease. Therefore, it is very necessary to clear the difference between resistant and susceptible varieties in response to the fungal infection. In this paper, we investigated the response of resistant and susceptible bayberry cultivars to infection of twig blight pathogen by histological observation and gibberellin signaling pathway-related genes expression. Microscopic observation revealed the difference in the infection process between resistant and susceptible varieties. The results of frozen scanning electron microscopy showed that the Pestalotiopsis conidia were shrunk, the mycelium was shriveled and did not extend into the cells of resistant cultivars, while the conidia were full and the top was extended, the mycelia was normal and continued to extend to the cells of a susceptible cultivar. Indeed, the medulla cells were almost intact in resistant cultivar, but obviously damaged in susceptible cultivar after inoculation of the main fungal pathogen P. versicolor conidia, which is earlier germinated on sterile glass slide than that of a hard plastic slide. The quantitative real-time PCR results showed a significant difference between resistant and susceptible cultivars in the expression of gibberellin signaling pathway-related genes in leaves and stems of bayberry, which is closely related to infection time, the type of genes and varieties. Overall, this study provides a clue for our understanding of the resistance mechanism of bayberry against the twig blight disease.Growth hormone (GH)-secreting pituitary tumours represent the most genetically determined pituitary tumour type. Using geographical, socioeconomic and epidemiological criteria, we selected twelve North-equatorial-South countries with similar characteristics. We then obtained UV levels, mobility and Covid-19 daily incidence rates for nearly the entire 2020. Using machine learning, we demonstrated that UV radiation strongly associated with incidence rates, more so than mobility did, indicating that UV is a key seasonality indicator for Covid-19, irrespective of the initial conditions of the epidemic. Our findings can inform the implementation of public health emergency measures, partly based on seasons in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, as the pandemic unfolds into 2021.Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) are widely used in the laboratory diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infections, particularly in the latent form. We compared the performance of a newly developed IGRA, the Standard E TB-Feron ELISA (TBF) with the currently used QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus assay (QFT-Plus) for the detection of latent tuberculosis infections (LTBIs) in tertiary care settings. We also investigated interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) released by T cell subsets via intracellular cytokine staining (ICS) and flow cytometry. A total of 335 subjects including 40 patients with active tuberculosis (ATB), 75 immunocompromised patients with LTBIs (P-LTBI), 70 health care workers with LTBIs (H-LTBI), and 150 healthy controls (HC) were studied. Overall, 168 subjects (50.1%) and 178 subjects (53.1%) displayed IGRA-positive results in the QFT-Plus and TBF, respectively. The overall concordance rate was 94.0%. The sensitivity and specificity of TBF were 88% and 95%, respectively, while the sensitivity and specificity of QFT-Plus were 90% and 100%, respectively.
