In particular, in pediatric cases, selecting a method that will reduce the need for transfusion, shorten the surgical time, minimize the chances of facial deformity, and facilitate postoperative care will ensure compliance with the correct and appropriate treatment process.
In cranial oncologic surgery, lesion localization and possible pathological diagnosis are essential for the determination of the correct surgical technique. In particular, in pediatric cases, selecting a method that will reduce the need for transfusion, shorten the surgical time, minimize the chances of facial deformity, and facilitate postoperative care will ensure compliance with the correct and appropriate treatment process.
Previous studies that investigated the effect of green tea/green tea extract on anthropometric indices among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients found inconsistent results. Thus, in order to clarify the efficacy of green tea supplementation on anthropometric indices and body composition, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to sum up the evidence of randomized controlled trials.
A systematic search was conducted in the Scopus, ISI Web of Science and PubMed to find the related articles, up to June 2019. Meta-analysis was performed using the random effects model, and the I2 index was used to evaluate the heterogeneity.
Eleven articles were eligible. Our meta-analysis indicated that green tea consumption significantly decreased body weight, body mass index (BMI), and body fat (BF). The beneficial effect of green tea intake was observed in long-term intervention (>8 weeks), at lower doses of green tea (dosage ≤800 mg/day), and in overweight patients.
This study revealed the beneficial effects of green tea consumption in reducing body weight, BMI, and BF in T2DM patients. It should be noted that green tea was effective in long-term intervention, at lower doses of green tea, and in overweight patients.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common disease caused by repeated episodes of collapse of the upper airway during sleep and is associated with the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, there is high heterogeneity in the impact of OSA on patients. Until now, the profile of OSA patients at risk of developing CVD has not been defined, including the measurable variables that could be used to predict the CVD risk of a patient with OSA.
The aim of this study was to identify the microRNA (mi-RNA) profile associated with CVD in patients with OSA.
This is an observational, cross-sectional study that included 132 male patients. Three groups were defined as OSA patients, OSA patients with hypertension, and OSA patients who developed a major cardiovascular event. Polysomnography and ambulatory blood pressure measurements were performed. The expression profiling of 188 miRNAs in plasma was performed in 21 subjects (matched by BMI and age) by the TaqMan low density array (TLDA). miRNAs differentialand miR-143 are associated with specific blood pressure parameters in patients with OSA and miR-486 is associated with the cardiovascular risk SCORE.Insect systemic immune responses to bacterial infections have been mainly studied using microinjections, whereby the microbe is directly injected into the hemocoel. While this methodology has been instrumental in defining immune signaling pathways and enzymatic cascades in the hemolymph, it remains unclear whether and to what extent the contribution of systemic immune defenses to host microbial resistance varies if bacteria invade the hemolymph after crossing the midgut epithelium subsequent to an oral infection. Here, we address this question using the pathogenic Serratia marcescens (Sm) DB11 strain to establish systemic infections of the malaria vector Anopheles gambiae, either by septic Sm injections or by midgut crossing after feeding on Sm. Using functional genetic studies by RNAi, we report that the two humoral immune factors, thioester-containing protein 1 and C-type lectin 4, which play key roles in defense against Gram-negative bacterial infections, are essential for defense against systemic Sm infecy immunity genes to host antimicrobial defense but is also associated with different transcriptional responses in midguts and abdomens, possibly reflecting different adaptive strategies of the host.
Gait speed (GS) is a predictor of negative outcomes in older adults and in those in risk to develop cognitive impairment; as such, it has been associated with dementia. Studies in Latin-American older adults showing this association are scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between GS and dementia in a representative sample of Colombian older adults.
This study is a secondary analysis from the Survey on Health, Well-Being, and Aging, SABE (from initials in Spanish Salud, Bienestar & Envejecimiento) Colombia's survey conducted in 2015 with a sample of 23,694 elderly adults aged 60 years or older.
A total of 19,470 participants from the SABE Colombia survey were available for analysis. The multivariate analysis shows that dementia was associated with slow GS (PR 2.39; CI 1.91-3.01) independently to the other variables (p < 0.001). Similarly, GS as a continuous variable shows a statistically significant association with dementia in the adjusted analysis (OR 0.06; CI 0.04-0.09; p < 0.001).
Dementia was associated with slow GS. This finding provides evidence to include GS as a complementary parameter in the assessment of Colombian elderly adults.

For patients with CKD, evidence on the optimal dose of physical activity and possible harm with excessive exercise is limited. This study aimed to analyze the dose-response association between leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) and mortality in those with CKD and explore the optimal dose or possible harm associated with increased levels of LTPA.
4,604 participants with CKD from the 1999 to 2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys with linked mortality data obtained through 2015 were classified into 6 groups 0, 1-149, 150-299, 300-599, 600-899, and ≥900 min/week based on the total duration of the self-reported LTPA. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine dose-response associations between LTPA and mortality.
During the median follow-up of 114 months, 1,449 (31%) all-cause deaths were recorded. Compared to the inactive group (0 min/week), we observed a 22% lower risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.78; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.63-0.
