There is inconclusive and controversial evidence of the association between allergic diseases and the risk of adverse clinical outcomes of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
We sought to determine the association of allergic disorders with the likelihood of a positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) test result and with clinical outcomes of COVID-19 (admission to intensive care unit, administration of invasive ventilation, and death).
A propensity-score-matched nationwide cohort study was performed in South Korea. Data obtained from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service of Korea from all adult patients (age, >20 years) who were tested for SARS-CoV-2 in South Korea between January 1, 2020, and May 15, 2020, were analyzed. The association of SARS-CoV-2 test positivity and allergic diseases in the entire cohort (n= 219,959) and the difference in clinical outcomes of COVID-19 were evaluated inpatients with allergic diseases and SARS-CoV-2 positivity (n= 7,340).
In the entire cohort, patients who underwent SARS-CoV-2 testing were evaluated to ascertain whether asthma and allergic rhinitis were associated with an increased likelihood of SARS-CoV-2 test positivity. After propensity score matching, we found that asthma and allergic rhinitis were associated with worse clinical outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with SARS-CoV-2 test positivity. Patients with nonallergic asthma had a greater risk of SARS-CoV-2 test positivity and worse clinical outcomes of COVID-19 than patients with allergic asthma.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-exacerbated respiratory disease (N-ERD) asthma is characterized by chronic rhinosinusitis and intolerance of aspirin and other COX1 inhibitors. Clinical data point to a heterogeneity within the N-ERD phenotype.
Our aim was to investigate immune mediator profiles in the lower airways of patients with N-ERD.
Levels of cytokines (determined by using Luminex assay) and eicosanoids (determined by using mass spectrometry) were measured in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) from patients with N-ERD (n= 22), patients with NSAID-tolerant asthma (n= 21), and control subjects (n= 11). mRNA expression in BALF cells was quantified by using TaqMan low-density arrays.
Lower airway eosinophilia was more frequent in N-ERD (54.5%) than in NSAID-tolerant asthma (9.5% [P= .009]). The type-2 (T2) immune signature of BALF cells was more pronounced in the eosinophilic subphenotype of N-ERD. Similarly, BALF concentrations of periostin and CCL26 were significantly increased in eosi with eosinophilia in the lower airway.
Lower airway immune profiles show considerable heterogeneity of N-ERD, with skewing toward T2 response and eosinophilic inflammation. Increased production of leukotriene E4 was restricted to a subgroup of patients with eosinophilia in the lower airway.Given the burden of disease and the consequences of a diagnosis of peanut allergy, it is important that peanut allergy be accurately diagnosed so that an appropriate treatment plan can be developed. Hence, these features of BPA-mediated neurotoxicity in L-NAME induced hypertensive rats were prohibited by co-administration of NAR through production of neuro-inflammatory mediators, stabilizing neurotransmitter enzymes, normalizing NO signaling and improving brain histology.Environmental exposures have been linked to childhood problems with overactivity, attention, and impulse control, and an increased risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis. Two approaches to identify these types of exposure-related neurobehavioral problems include the use of computerized tests, such as the Behavioral Assessment and Research System (BARS), as well as the use of behavior rating scales. To assess comparability of these two types of measures, we analyzed data from 281 children aged 6 to 14 years enrolled in a 5-year research study investigating coal ash exposure and neurobehavioral health.
