Suicide rates for young people are climbing in the United States and worldwide. Increasing rates of youth suicide are of concern to occupational therapy (OT) practitioners in pediatric settings, yet the profession's role in this area is poorly defined. To understand OT practitioners' awareness and needs related to youth suicide, we administered a survey including objective (e.g., knowledge of suicide-related facts) and subjective items (open- and close-ended questions) related to youth suicide to 134 OT practitioners working in pediatric settings. Only 5.2% of respondents correctly answered four items about youth suicide facts and only 32% reported they had received suicide-focused education. Just under half (45%) of respondents were able to identify all best practice responses to clinical scenarios related to youth suicide; older practitioner age was the only significant predictor of best practices. OT practitioners in pediatric settings would benefit from youth-focused suicide education and training.We retrospectively investigated the prognostic value of the metabolic bulk volume (MBV), defined as the metabolic volume of the largest lesion, in 106 patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma who underwent baseline 18FDG PET-CT. Semi-automatically segmented (41% SUVmax) total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) and MBV underwent receiver operating characteristic analysis, identifying optimal thresholds of 147 cm3 for the TMTV and 41.5 cm3 for the MBV. A low TMTV and a low MBV were significantly associated with longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). According to Cox multivariate analysis, the TMTV and MBV were independent predictors, respectively, for PFS (HR = 3.501), and OS (HR = 7.242). The TMTV and MBV classification were discordant in 18.9% of patients with a 5-year PFS rate of 100% for patients with low MBV/high TMTV and 74% for high MBV/low TMTV. Next, according to the bioinformatics analysis from miRanda database and a series of gain- and loss-of-function experiments, we proved PEAMIR to be a ceRNA for miR-29b-3p to inhibit cardiac inflammation and apoptosis. Finally, using Target-Scan database, the conserved binding sites for miR-29b-3p was identified in the 3'UTR of PI3K (p85a), a key protein of apoptosis. Our subsequent experiments validated the regulatory relationship between PEAMIR-miR-29b-3p ceRNA pair and PI3K (p85a)/Akt/GSK3b/p53 cascade pathway. In conclusion, our study demonstrated the role and mechanism of PEAMIR in the augment of I/R injury under PM2.5 exposure, suggesting a promising strategy for the prevention and treatment of I/R injury under PM2.5 exposure.Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures have the potential to uniquely capture patient experience and serve as an outcome measure in inherited retinal degeneration (IRD) gene therapy trials. An IRD-specific patient-reported outcome measure may yield valuable information that has not been obtained from inherited retinal dystrophy gene therapy trials published to-date. Existing PRO measures have inherent limitations for use in IRD gene therapy trials. Developing an applicable patient-reported outcome measure for such trials needs to incorporate patient input from the target population, demonstrate sound psychometric properties, and be made in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. This review will discuss the currently available PRO instruments, their limitations for IRD therapeutic trials, and suggestions for future PRO development in IRD populations. The PRO instruments highlighted were identified in PubMed search of English-language journals and previously published review articles.Background Academic detailing (AD) is a defined form of educational outreach that can be used to influence decision making and reduce unwarranted variation in healthcare delivery. This paper describes the results of the proof of concept phase of the ADVOCATE Field Studies. This study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability and usefulness of AD reinforced with feedback data, to promote prevention-oriented, patient-centred and evidence-based oral healthcare delivery by general dental practitioners (GDPs).Methods In the Field Studies, six groups of GDPs (n = 39) were recruited in The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. Each group had four meetings reinforced with feedback data for open discussions on dental practice and healthcare delivery. Conventional and directed content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data collected from focus group interviews, debriefing interviews, field notes and evaluation forms.Results A total of nine themes were identified. Seven themes related to the process of the Field Studies and covered experiences, barriers and facilitators to AD group meetings, data collection and the use of an electronic dashboard for data presentation and storage.
