Prognosis of badly unified stomach cancers after full cytoreductive surgical procedure without or with hyperthermic intraperitoneal radiation treatment (CYTO-CHIP review).
Faith-based communities have the capacity to design and deliver community appropriate governance for research engagement.
The literature on community-engaged research provides important principles to guide research partnerships, but concrete descriptions of the complexities involved in developing, navigating, and maintaining such partnerships are lacking.

To describe and assess a longstanding, complex research partnership between Indigenous and academic pharmacogenetic research partners, with attention to co-learning and capacity building lessons learned.

Descriptive thematic analysis of 11 semistructured interviews with interdisciplinary research partners situated at Indigenous and academic settings.

Lessons learned included the need for explicit negotiation around mentoring expectations, and discussion on advisory and staff roles. Partners need to be aware not only of the structures, policies, and hierarchies within each partner institution, but also the tacit value commitments and understandings entailed in their different missions.

This study highlights that the concept of "bidirectional" learning as it is usually presented in the literature fails to capture the complexity of how partnerships work.

Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States. FK506 ic50 African Americans are disproportionately affected owing to systemic and sociocultural factors. Stigma, denial, and inadequate knowledge on depression are significant barriers to mental help seeking. Addressing mental health literacy can improve mental health knowledge, management, and outcomes. West Louisville, a predominantly African American community, is of particular interest regarding mental health literacy given existing socioeconomic and health disparities. Boot Camp Translation (BCT), a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, enables the translation of medical guidelines into culturally relevant messages.

To describe the use of the BCT approach in developing and implementing a culturally tailored health communication campaign designed to measurably increase referral to, and use of, services for depression in West Louisville.

Using the BCT approach, a group of academics, community members, and health/public health professionals convened over 6 months to develop and implement a health communication campaign on depression. Process and outcome evaluations were conducted using quantitative and qualitative methods.

Our BCT was effective in engaging stakeholders, activating community members, and designing culturally informed health communication materials on depression. Although limited, our evaluation data suggest a modest increase in the evaluation and treatment of depression in West Louisville.

BCT offers a structured process for engaging stakeholders in developing culturally tailored health communication campaigns.

It is critical to build capacity to use evidence-based health promotion programs in community-based organizations (CBOs), particularly those working with underserved populations. Packages of ongoing capacity-building supports seem to be critical, but it is not clear how best to design and deploy them.

PLANET MassCONECT was a participatory research project to increase capacity for the use of evidence-based programs (EBPs) among CBO staff members in three Massachusetts communities experiencing health disparities. We assessed the impact of trainee engagement with capacity-building supports on the use of a systematic approach to program planning.

Trainees were enrolled from 2010 to 2012 and engaged until 2014. The intervention started with a workshop and included ongoing capacity-building supports (a customized web portal and resources, networking events, minigrants, and technical assistance). Logistic regression was used to examine the relationship between trainee engagement with capacity-building supports offered after the workshop and key outcomes at year 1.

Of the capacity-building supports offered after the workshop, the web portal was the most popular. Higher use of systematic program planning approaches in the first year was predicted by web portal use (odds ratio [OR], 3.00; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04-8.67; p = 0.04), and participation in the minigrant process (OR, 5.40; 95% CI, 1.09-28.69; p = 0.04). Separately, high intention to use systematic approaches for program planning was predicted by web portal use (OR, 3.47; 95% CI, 1.27-9.52; p = 0.02).

Ongoing capacity-building supports may promote EBP planning in CBOs, but institutional constraints may limit practitioners' ability to engage with such supports.
Ongoing capacity-building supports may promote EBP planning in CBOs, but institutional constraints may limit practitioners' ability to engage with such supports. With the Healthcare Ethics Consultant Certification (HEC-C) offered through the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), the practice of clinical ethics has taken a decisive step into professionalization. But without an unambiguous sense of what clinical ethicists can contribute to the clinical environment, it is unclear what the HEC-C ensures clinical ethicists can do. Though the ASBH enumerates a set of core competencies, many disagree over what role those competencies empower ethicists to serve. Two recent publications are notable for advocating conflicting positions on the question of ethicists' competence "Ethics Expertise What It Is, How to Get It, and What to Do with It" by Christopher Meyers (2018) and Rethinking Health Care Ethics by Stephen Scher and Kasia Kozlowska (2018). In response to Scher and Kozlowska's argument that the primary role of ethicists is to create space to engage clinician's moral intuitions, this analysis follows Meyers in contending that ethicists can also contribute a kind of moral expertise. However, acquiring moral expertise is no easy task, and it is unlikely to be substantiated by a certification exam. This analysis draws on research from the psychology of expertise to outline the sort of training needed to cultivate and enhance moral expertise.
