France is one of the few European countries with an operational centralized database (SIRE) recording individual data on all declared equines living in France and on their owners and keepers. Our study aimed to assess SIRE database quality concerning the updating of information by equine owners and keepers with a view to its improvement and use in surveillance and research. Two online surveys were conducted with the participation of 6244 registered keepers and 13,869 owners. Results showed some inconsistencies between SIRE records and survey responses. The inconsistency rate for equines whose castration and death were not registered in the database was 28.7% and 5.9% respectively. Concerning owners, 11% of respondents did not own the reference equine selected considered by the survey, 33% had changed address without updating it in the SIRE. Concerning premises hosting equines, the keeper survey's inconsistency rate was 7.3%, of which 57 respondents had closed and 32 had opened premises without reporting it. Comparatively, the owner survey's inconsistency rate was 40.7% including respondents who owned and hosted an equine without reporting these equine premises, and owners who did not keep any equines on their premises. In conclusion, the SIRE database proved to be a valuable and reliable source for epidemiological research as long as some bias is taken into account. To understand the correlation between the interfacial structure based on the grafting density of PMEA and blood compatibility, grafted PMEA (gPMEA) surfaces with controlled density were prepared by immobilizing thiol-terminated PMEA on a gold substrate. The amount of adsorbed fibrinogen and the number of adhered platelets on gPMEAs decreased first with the increasing grafting density (σ), but increased after showed minimum at σ of approximately 0.11 chains/nm2. The interfacial structures of the gPMEA/PBS interface changed with grafting density, and the maximum area of water-rich region was obtained at σ = 0.11. The water contact angle at σ = 0.11 is smaller than that at the other grafting density. These results revealed that hydration to the polymer is very effective to suppress the platelet adhesion and water-rich region shows excellent blood compatibility on gPMEA surfaces. This qualitative study explores neighborhood factors and their interactions in relation to mental well-being. Individual semi-structured walking interviews were conducted with 28 adults living in the Brussels-Capital Region. This paper provides a detailed description of physical neighborhood factors (green-blue spaces, services, design and maintenance, traffic, cellphone towers) and social neighborhood factors (neighbor ties, neighbor diversity, social security) that link to mental well-being. A socio-ecological framework is presented to explain interactions among those neighborhood factors, and personal and institutional factors, in relation to mental well-being. The findings are linked to existing concepts and theories to better understand the mechanisms underlying the associations between the urban neighborhood environment and mental well-being. Finally, implications of the walking interview method are discussed.
