There is dearth of the literature in this subject, assessing the stress levels in hand eczema and disparities exist in results of the available literature. Primary objective of this study is to assess the clinico-etiological factors in cases of hand eczema. The secondary objectives include to find any correlation between morphological types and the etiological factors, and to determine the role of stress level in these patients. Patients with hand eczema who attended the outpatient department of our tertiary care institution were enrolled in this descriptive study. Sociodemographic and clinico-etiologic data were collected and patch testing of all patients were done. Stress levels were assessed with Perceived stress scale (PSS). Among the 62 patients enrolled, allergic contact dermatitis predominated with 37 (59.7%) cases and patch test was positive in 41 (66.1%). Potassium dichromate was the most common allergen in males, and fragrance mix in females. Significant levels of stress were seen in 67.7% of the subjects. There was no significant correlation between morphological subtypes and the identified aetiologies. Hand eczema is most commonly due to allergic contact dermatitis, and patch testing is helpful in reaching an etiological diagnosis in most of the cases. A large proportion of patients have high stress levels, and hence stress management should also be a part of treatment in addition to traditional treatment.
As a type of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has a high incidence and low survival rate. Frequent deletion of protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type sigma (PTPRS) has been found in HNSCC. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) HCG11 and miR-455-5p have been reported to be involved in several cancers, in which miR-455-5p was found to be up-regulated in the OSCC. However, the role of HCG11 in OSCC development is still unclear.

Several co-transfection systems were established to explore the regulation of HCG11 on OSCC cells. Cell proliferation was evaluated by the MTT assay, flow cytometry of cell cycle distribution, immunofluorescence of Ki67 and western blotting. A dual luciferase reporter assay was performed to verify the binding effects of miR-455-5p on HCG11 and PTPRS. The role of HCG11 knockdown in OSCC cell growth was also confirmed by nude mouse tumorigenicity assay in vivo.

Knockdown of HCG11 increased OSCC cell proliferation, as indicated by enhanced cell vitalities over time, increased G1/S transition and Ki67 levels. Furthermore, lncRNA HCG11 was shown to negatively regulate miR-455-5p and miR-455-5p targeted PTPRS directly to affect its downstream indicators, which can further modulate OSCC cell proliferation and growth. The results obtained in vivo confirmed that HCG11 knockdown promoted OSCC cell growth.

The lncRNA HCG11/miR-R-455-5p axis can be considered as an upstream signalling circuit of PTPRS with respect to regulating its activity and downstream pathways to further influence the progression of OSCC. This finding may provide a novel RNA-based therapeutic target for OSCC treatment.

As a case study, we evaluate persistence criteria in hazardous waste regulations in Washington state, USA, illustrate impacts on reported waste, and propose refinements in these criteria. Although Washington state defines persistence based on half-life (>1 y) and specific chemical groups that exceed summed concentration thresholds in waste (i.e., >0.01% halogenated organic compounds [HOCs] and >1.0% polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [PAHs]), persistence is typically addressed with HOC and PAH evaluation but seldom with half-life estimation. The glossy flat surfaces of metal housings (matrices) were sandblasted and precoated with a thin layer of AAR in the laboratory. Straight acrylic resin bars (3 cm long and 3 mm in diameter) were obtained and attached to these flat metal housing surfaces using a surveyor. The metal housings carrying the AAR bars were then placed intraorally onto ball/stud attachments, accurately positioned parallel to each other, and perpendicular to the long axes of implants and bound to the MIO with AAR.
