These results show that maternal transfer of antibiotics occurs in zebrafish, resulting in transgenerational changes in F1 offspring survival and transcription that predict adverse gastrointestinal effects in offspring.Rational and smart design of hydrogen (H2) sensors especially those featured with flexibility and light weight is highly desirable, to meet the requirements for future development of portable H2 sensors. In this work, we demonstrate a novel paper film H2 sensor employing Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets with Pd colloidal nanoclusters (Pd CNC) as the activator. The MXene@ Pd CNC paper film was facilely prepared via an all-colloidal solution-based vacuum-filtration process, which is flexible, light-weight and endowed with a compact, glossy surface. The as-obtained MXene@ Pd CNC film sensor displayed moderate H2 response at room temperature at either flat or bent states. Specially, the MXene@Pd CNC film sensor delivered a response time of (32 ± 7) s and a sensitivity of S = (23.0 ± 4.0)%@4% H2. In addition, the MXene@Pd CNC sensor enabled "in-situ-mode" H2 detection directly along a piece of paper film with desired size. The strong H2 adsorption into lattice of ultrafine Pd CNC altered the work function thus induced the electron doping of MXene, which explained the gas sensing mechanism. Therefore, the facilely designed MXene@Pd CNC sensor is believed to contribute to development of future portable and wearable sensing electronics.Mercury is a toxic element, which can be found in air, water and soil in several inorganic and organic forms. Mercury pollution comes from a variety of industrial sources, including vinyl-chloride, pulp and paper, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals industry, gold mining and cement production. Gels have increasingly attracted the interest over the past decades and one of the investigated applications is the fast removal of organic substances, metals and other cations and anions from water. In this work, two types of cryogels were synthesized at sub-zero temperature by free-radical polymerization technique, characterized by using a set of complimentary methods and used for the removal of mercury from aqueous solutions of different chemistry. Kinetics and equilibrium studies were performed in ultra-pure water solutions in order to study the mechanisms in the presence nitrate and chloride ions. The cryogels exhibited excellent efficiency towards mercury removal from all model solutions. Moreover, the cryogels were tested in different water matrixes (tap, river and sea water) and compared to commercial adsorbents (activated carbon, strong acid resin and zeolite Y). Cryogels were able to remove mercury much faster than commercial adsorbents with the exception of seawater where activated carbon was superior. The adsorptive removal of natural montmorillonite (MMT) clay pillared with titanium oxide (Ti-PILC) was examined in this study to see the adsorptive remove of pharmaceutical compounds (PCs) amoxicillin (AMOX), imipramine (IMP), Diclofenac-Sodium (DIF-S), and paracetamol (PCM) from water under a batch-scale study. The post-intercalation changes in clay were investigated with various surface and structural analysis techniques. The results confirm an increase in the surface area, microporosity, and acidic sites (lewis acid) which improved and regulates Ti-PILC interactions with electron-rich PPCPs molecules. The FTIR bands for Si-OH and Al-OH show a shift in MMT, after pillaring, indicates the intercalation of Ti pillared in its interlayer space. The isotherms studies suggested the best fitting of Redlich Peterson models for all pharmaceutical adsorption data. The Langmuir adsorption (maximum) was recorded for Ti-PILC in the order 82.68 (IMP) > 23.05 (DIF-S) > 20.83 (PCM) > 4.26 (AMOX) mg.g-1 at a fixed adsorbent dose i.e. 0.1 g·L-1. The PCs adsorption kinetics was also evaluated by Pseudo-first-, and second-order model and results showed the best curve fitting for all PCs. Results of regeneration studies showed that modified Ti-PILC could be a low-cost cleaner material for adsorption of pharmaceuticals from water. In this study, the phase I metabolism of fenthion was monitored in three common vegetables in different chamber situations via an in vivo solid-phase microextraction method. The phase I metabolic pathways of fenthion were evaluated based on the in vivo monitoring results and their comparisons among the chamber situations. Enzyme catalysis was found to play a basic and dominant role, whereas light catalysis could promote subsequent transformations that were difficult for enzyme catalysis. The relative total and weighted exposure potency values were calculated to account for the fact that only the parent pesticide was considered in the diet exposure risk assessment. In result, both total and weighted approaches indicated a much higher exposure risk. Present study uncovered the potential pesticide exposure risk associated with phase I metabolism and highlighted the toxicity weighted approach, both of which more realistically reflect the exposure risk than the parent compound concentration does. In general, this study may facilitate further illustrating the phase I metabolism of ubiquitous agricultural pesticides, and provide a more realistically understanding of their exposure risk.Strategies to maximize the reuse of electronic and industrial wastes have scientific, economic, social and environmental implications. We herein propose a strategy of "treating waste with waste" using LiCoO2 cathode powders from spent lithium ion batteries to eliminate industrial pollutants led by sulfur (S) (IV) in waste water. By radical scavenging experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis, we identified singlet 1O2 as the dominant species while SO4- and OH as the secondary species for decontamination during the oxidization process mediated by LiCoO2 powders. The intrinsic mechanism of S(IV) conversion was revealed to be two-step hydrogen migrations from HSO3- to O2 occurring on LiCoO2 surface by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The surface of LiCoO2 powders plays a key role in anchoring sulfur species and forming surface complex as an excellent medium, which is found to be stable and reusable by material characterizations and the recycling experiment. Free Co(II) ions in solvents have no catalysis effect on the conversion of pollutants.
