The descriptions from this study indicate that the parasite drastically compromises the host's respiratory system. Additionally, it is worth noting that parasite fauna studies of fishes in the Capim river are still a vast topic for research; this is the first record of infection by Henneguya sp. in Metynnis hypsauchen, captured in the Capim river in Ipixuna do Pará. © Indian Society for Parasitology 2019.Nile tilapia is an exotic species produced in Brazilian aquaculture. The aim of this study was to constitute a pathological diagnosis in Oreochromis sp. with a noticeable presence in a river in southern Brazil, and to verify the origin of these fish in this natural habitat, an environment with high sanitary precariousness due to discharges of industrial effluents. A total of 30 fish were collected during three sampling events and their health status was assessed by parasitological fauna survey, parasitological indices and histopathological examination of the gills, liver, spleen and kidney. Five species of monogenea were identified infesting gills and stomach Cichlidogyrus sclerosus, C. halli, C. thurstonae, Scutogyrus longicornis and Enterogyrus cichlidarum; and 4 species of trichodinidae infesting the body surface and gills Trichodina magna, T. compacta, T. centrostrigeata and Paratrichodina africana. The results showed differences according to the seasonality of the collection, with higher parasite count and larger tissue alterations in summer. Histopathological analysis fluctuated from moderate to severe, but necrosis prevailed in all organs and in all fish, indicating that these fish did not enjoy full health. © Indian Society for Parasitology 2019.Ornamental fish culture is growing to a prosperly in India. India earned lot amount of money from this business but unfortunately the ornamental fishes are facing lots of problem due to the parasitic infestation. While surveying, some ciliate parasites namely, Trichodina oligocotti (Lom in Arch Protistenkd 112153-177, 1970) and Tripertiella bulbosa (Davis in US Dept Interior Fish Bull 511-29, 1947) Lom (Acta Parasitol Polon 7573-590, 1959) have been identified from ornamental fish Botia rostrata from Arunachal Pradesh, India. The species have been identified according to the guidelines of Lom (J Protozool 5251-263, 1958). Through out the world records of many trichodinid infection was documented but no such investigation have been carried out earlier in Arunachal Pradesh. The present study embodies the morphology and morphometrics of trichodinid ciliates of ornamental fish, Botia rostata collected from the Subansiri river of Arunachal Pradesh for the first time in India. © Indian Society for Parasitology 2019.Sarcocystis fusiformis is a coccidian tissue parasite that causes infection in buffalo in countries such an Egypt, China, Iraq and Iran, resulting in significant economic losses to the agricultural industry annually. There is a lack of studies examining host-parasite interactions at the level of the immune response and the present study investigates the interaction between S. fusiformis whole cyst antigens (SFWCA) and dendritic cells (DCs), cells critical to the activation of adaptive immunity. In this study bone marrow derived DCs (BMDCs) were phenotyped following treatment with SFWCA by measuring cell viability, cytokine secretion, and cell surface marker expression. While SFWCA exhibited cytotoxic effects on BMDCs at higher concentrations, lower concentrations of SFWCA activated pro-inflammatory DCs that significantly secreted interleukin (IL)-12p40, tumor necrosis factor alpha, IL-6 and IL-10. These cells also displayed enhanced expression of TLR4, CD80, CD86 and MHC II on their surface, which is indicative of full DCs maturation. Moreover, SFWCA significantly attenuated the capacity of BMDCs to suppress Th2 associated cytokines, notably IL-5 and IL-13, while simultaneously exhibiting no effects on the secretion of interferon (IFN)-γ, IL-2, IL-17, and IL-10. In conclusion, this is the first study to provide fundamental insight into the activation of DCs by SFWCA, providing us with some awareness into the interaction of the Sarcosystis parasite with its host. Lithium Chloride in vitro The pro-inflammatory inducing ability of this antigen is in keeping with studies performed in other protozoan parasites and therefore understanding these interactions is important in the development of future therapeutic strategies. © Indian Society for Parasitology 2019.The archived blood of rodents species such as Meriones, Mus, and Microtus species was investigated in order to detect any piroplasms species. In this study 18S rRNA target gene of piroplasm parasite was amplified by PCR in a Meriones persicus; so, the Locus 1 and Locus 2 of 18S rRNA were sequenced, successfully. A Theileria-like taxa was suspected in accordance with the BLAST analysis of 18S rRNA L1 and L2 with 96% and 91% sequence homology, respectively. The present study was the first report of a Theileria-like species in M. persicus from Iran. © Indian Society for Parasitology 2019.Gastrointestinal parasites can induce low productivity in livestock by causing acute or chronic enteritis. Veterinarians make great efforts to design rational and effective hygienic protocols for both the prevention and treatment of diarrhea. Although prevalences can vary depending on the examined areas or the ages of the hosts, and the methods used for detections, it is helpful to accumulate data across many areas to evaluate parasitic distribution. A coprological survey in cattle was conducted in Tangerang, Banten Province of Indonesia, in order to determine the prevalence of the parasites, including those of diarrhea-associated diseases. Furthermore, the risk of transmission of Giardia intestinalis and Cryptosporidium spp. to human was genetically analyzed. Gastrointestinal parasites were detected in 87 of 109 cattle samples, including 85 carrying Eimeria spp., 36 carrying Fasciola gigantica, 35 carrying Strongyloides spp., 33 carrying Paramphistomum spp., and 15 carrying Capillaria spp. Giardia intestinalis and Cryptosporidium spp., parasites with zoonotic potential, were detected in 9 and 1 cattle samples, respectively. Molecular analyses identified the G. intestinalis isolate as a member of Assemblage E, which has been recently detected in humans in another country. These results may be helpful in understanding the hygienic risk affecting the livestock productivity and zoonotic potential of cattle in Indonesia. © Indian Society for Parasitology 2019.
