Background Prediabetes has been considered to be a reversible condition; a modification of lifestyle and other intervention can be successfully applied during the prediabetes period to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to assess knowledge of prediabetes and its risk factors for the community in the Al-Ahsa region. Design and method A cross-sectional community-based study was conducted in the Al-Ahsa region from mid-to-late December 2018. A sample size of 812 was determined using a single-proportion formula. Results Of the 812 respondents who gave consent to participate in the interview; the male to female ratio was 1.11. 13.2% of the respondents reported that they had diabetes. Among the respondents, 87.1% had a high level of knowledge of prediabetes, while 12.9% had low-to-moderate knowledge. 84% of males 40 years of age or older, 88.7% (384) of people with university or higher education, and 95.1% (78) of people who worked as health practitioners had high knowledge of prediabetes. Dactolisib concentration Overall, there was a statistically significant association between age and prediabetes knowledge (χ2 =5.006, p=0.025). Occupation also showed a significant statistical association with prediabetes knowledge (χ2 =9.85, p=0.02). Conclusion Knowledge is considered an important factor in the prevention of prediabetes and diabetes. People in Al-Ahsa demonstrated a high level of knowledge regarding some risk factors for prediabetes. However, there were a number of deficiencies in the knowledge of prediabetes risk factors and preventive measures as well as in general knowledge of prediabetes, which may lead to a high prevalence of prediabetes and diabetes. Background To date, no instrument in Portugal has evaluated the attitudes of the population about advance care directives. This paper describes the development and testing of the General Public's Attitudes Toward Advance Care Directives (GPATACD) Scale. Design and Methods Methodological study. The development of the instrument was based on a literature review, updated in 2018. Face and content validity were verified by an expert panel and piloted among six participants. Data were collected in an online survey of 1024 Portuguese adults. The obtained data were analyzed using Varimax rotation, while the reliability was evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha. Results The scale achieves good Item-Content Validity Index (I-CVI) values, between 0.89 and 1.00, and scale-CVI values of 0.91. A principal component analysis generated four dimensions with 26 items as a final scale, with overall Cronbach's alpha of 0.848. Conclusions The findings demonstrate that the scale is valid and reliable as a vehicle for assessment of the general public's attitudes toward advance care directives. Background Cryptorchidism is a congenital disorder that causes an irregularity in the permanent or temporary descent of one or both testicles. In Brazil, there are no comprehensive studies describing the association of demographic, social, and clinical characteristics in relation to cryptorchidism. Objectives This study aims to verify possible associations of clinical and sociodemographic characteristics in patients with cryptorchidism. Design and Methods An analytical, descriptive and retrospective study was carried out based on secondary data of 5,168 live births with cryptorchidism recorded in the Live Birth Information System (SINASC), Brazil from 1999 to 2018. The socio-demographic factors analyzed were the geographic region, age, education and marital status of the mothers. The clinical factors analyzed were the duration and type of pregnancy. The place of birth was also analyzed as a secondary outcome. Results This research analyzed all live births during the study period, in Brazil. The chance of cryptorchidism in the neonate is more common in women who become pregnant later (≥30 years of age) and with a higher level of education (≥8 years). The risk of cryptorchidism in relation to the federation units is higher in Paraiba, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Sao Paulo, and Santa Catarina. Regarding the clinical characteristics, the shorter pregnancies, which characterize premature births, are a risk for the appearance of cryptorchidism in the country. Conclusion Thus, in this study, we found that sociodemographic and clinical factors have specific characteristics that predict cryptorchidism in newborns in Brazil. Some case reports have been published suggesting association of celiac disease (CD) with tuberculosis (TB) and with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) but mostly in adult populations and in different patients. We report a 13-year-old girl recently diagnosed with CD presented to pediatric emergency at a tertiary teaching hospital in north India with complaints of generalized weakness, pain and swelling over left lower limb that subsequently was diagnosed to have disseminated TB and left lower limb DVT. She was treated with course of anti-tubercular drugs, short-term anticoagulant therapy, and gluten free diet with positive outcomes over next 3 months. To the best of authors' knowledge, no previous reports have yet suggested a coexistence of disseminated TB and peripheral deep vein thrombosis and CD in one single pediatric patient.Dengue fever is an arbovirus (dengue virus DEN) disease caused by bite of mosquitoes, affecting people worldwide but is frequently seen as pandemic in Latin America and Asian countries. Among children it has been the most frequent reason for hospitalization and mortality. Symptoms range from subclinical disease to severe flu-like illness including myalgias. Dengue commonly presents as myalgia but myositis and/or elevated serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) is rarely witnessed in dengue fever. Therefore, we present a case of dengue fever presenting as myositis muscle weakness with raised creatine phosphokinase (CPK).Duloxetine-induced hyponatraemia is a known adverse effect that can lead to potentially life-threatening complications. In addition, hypocortisolaemia is associated with the development of hyponatraemia. Here, we report a case of severe hyponatraemia rapidly presenting after duloxetine treatment in a patient with hypocortisolaemia. A 75-year-old man administered hydrocortisone for the treatment of hypocortisolaemia induced by a Rathke's cleft cyst was admitted for anorexia 3 days after the initiation of duloxetine therapy. Laboratory findings showed severe hyponatraemia, hypo-osmolality, concentrated urine, and increased urine sodium. Because the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone was diagnosed, duloxetine was ceased. Following admission to the hospital, endocrinological analyses revealed mild hypocortisolaemia, possibly due to low adherence to hydrocortisone replacement therapy. By the sixth day after admission, the patient's hyponatraemia, serum osmolality, and urine osmolality had improved. This case suggests that health-care physicians should be aware of the possibility of duloxetine-related hyponatraemia, particularly in patients with hypocortisolaemia.
