s group, and the significant increases in the protein levels of TLR2 and MyD88 were also observed in the protein detection. CONCLUSIONS The overexpression of miR-223 can inhibit the TLR signaling pathway, thereby promoting the recovery of thrombophlebitis rats.OBJECTIVE Human infections with zoonotic coronavirus contain emerging and reemerging pathogenic characteristics which have raised great public health concern. This study aimed at investigating the global prevalence, biological and clinical characteristics of novel coronavirus, Wuhan China (2019-nCoV), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection outbreaks. MATERIALS AND METHODS The data on the global outbreak of "2019-nCoV, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV" were obtained from World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), concerned ministries and research institutes. We also recorded the information from research documents published in global scientific journals indexed in ISI Web of Science and research centers on the prevalence, biological and clinical characteristics of 2019-nCoV, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV. RESULTS Worldwide, SARS-CoV involved 32 countries, with 8422 confirmed cases and 916 (10.87%) cass of breath, generalized myalgia, malaise, drowsy, diarrhea, confusion, dyspnea, and pneumonia. Global health authorities should take immediate measures to prevent the outbreaks of such emerging and reemerging pathogens across the globe to minimize the disease burden locally and globally. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that, although the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from Wuhan City (China), is not pandemic, it should be contained to prevent the global spread. The COVID-19 virus was known earlier as 2019-nCoV. As of 12 February 2020, WHO reported 45,171 cases and 1115 deaths related to COVID-19. COVID-19 is similar to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) virus in its pathogenicity, clinical spectrum, and epidemiology. Comparison of the genome sequences of COVID-19, SARS-CoV, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) showed that COVID-19 has a better sequence identity with SARS-CoV compared to MERS CoV. However, the amino acid sequence of COVID-19 differs from other coronaviruses specifically in the regions of 1ab polyprotein and surface glycoprotein or S-protein. Although several animals have been speculated to be a reservoir for COVID-19, no animal reservoir has been already confirmed. COVID-19 causes COVID-19 disease that has similar symptoms as SARS-CoV. Studies suggest that the human receptor for COVID-19 may be angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor similar to that of SARS-CoV. The nucleocapsid (N) protein of COVID-19 has nearly 90% amino acid sequence identity with SARS-CoV. The N protein antibodies of SARS-CoV may cross react with COVID-19 but may not provide cross-immunity. selleck compound In a similar fashion to SARS-CoV, the N protein of COVID-19 may play an important role in suppressing the RNA interference (RNAi) to overcome the host defense. This mini-review aims at investigating the most recent trend of COVID-19.OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine the mortality trends and causes of death in Northern Italy in a cohort of a population of individuals treated for alcohol use disorder (AUD) over a 38-year follow-up period (1978-2016). MATERIALS AND METHODS 6,198 patients attending eighteen centres for addiction treatment (CATs) for AUD were recruited. RESULTS During the follow-up period, 19.5% of the whole cohort died. The crude mortality rates (CMRs) were elevated (21.34 x 1000 person-years [PY]), higher for men and increasing with age group. The CMRs were higher for all cancers, followed by digestive system diseases, diseases of the circulatory system, transport accidents, and suicide. The standardised mortality ratios (SMRs) were at least three times higher for women and for men, and they were more elevated in younger patients and have been falling since 2009. Multivariate analysis confirmed that the mortality risk was higher for males and increased with age and decreased over time. The patients' main characteristics changed over time and, along with a greater presence of women and non-natives, fewer marginalised people and more socially integrated people turned to CATs. CONCLUSIONS The mortality risk in treated AUD is confirmed to be higher when compared with the general population, although it is decreasing. In addition, there is enough epidemiological data to assert that, independent of age and gender, the major causes of death in AUD patients are cancers, gastrointestinal disease, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and injuries.OBJECTIVE Seasonal variation may occur in many different diseases hence influencing awareness in clinical practice. This study aimed to establish seasonal variations of acute pancreatitis by using a validated chronobiological analysis. PATIENTS AND METHODS All cases of acute pancreatitis consecutively observed in fifteen years, i.e., from January 2003 to December 2017, at St. Anna University Hospital of Ferrara, Italy, were included in this study. Accurate statistical and logistic regression analyses were applied to our database. RESULTS A total number of 1883 consecutive cases of acute pancreatitis were observed. A significant peak was identified in the summer period (p=0.014). Patient stratification, according to age, showed that elderly people had an increased incidence of acute pancreatitis in autumn and summer (being the biliary stone disease the main cause, p=0.011) vs. other seasons (p=0.003). Mortality occurred more prominently in males vs. females, although the latter gender was more prone to acute pancreatitis (p=0.017). CONCLUSIONS In a single centre of Northern East of Italy, we demonstrated that acute pancreatitis had a clear seasonal variation with a prominent incidence during summer. Various associated factors could contribute to this chronobiological pattern, including gender, age, and biliary stone disease.OBJECTIVE To explore the influence of micro ribonucleic acid (miR)-135a on the renal fibrosis in rats with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) through the Notch signaling pathway. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 30 male Wistar rats weighing 200-220 g were selected and randomly divided into Control group (n=10), diabetes mellitus (DM) group (n=10), and miR-13a inhibitor group (n=10). Streptozotocin (STZ) was intraperitoneally injected daily to establish the DM model in rats of both DM group and miR-135a group, while normal saline was given daily through intraperitoneal injection in rats of Control group. After 4 weeks, the rats in miR-135a inhibitor group were intraperitoneally injected with miR-135a inhibitor, and those in Control and DM groups were administrated with an equal amount of normal saline. Changes in the blood glucose (BG), glycated hemoglobin (GHb), serum creatinine (Scr), triglyceride (TG), and total cholesterol (TC) of rats were evaluated, and the pathological changes in the renal tissues of DM rats were observed via hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining.
