Hypoparathyroidism can recover rapidly in the first 24 hours in patients with a PTH value of around 10 pg/mL at postoperative 4th hour. As the number of preserved parathyroids increased, recovery time decreased. In patients with postoperative hypoparathyroidism, postoperative low magnesium levels may be associated with delayed recovery of parathyroid function.

Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer and the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of clinicopathological factors on overall survival in the patients who underwent curative-intent gastrectomy due to gastric adenocarcinoma.

The medical records of 644 patients who underwent gastrectomy between January 2007 and January 2017 in our clinic were retrospectively reviewed. see more Among these patients, 359 patients were included in this study. The impact of several prognostic factors on survival was investigated.

The mean age was 59.2±11.6 (29-83). Male/female ratio was 2.12. The median follow-up time was 19 months (CI=10.1-31.1). Median overall survival was 23±2.3 months (CI=18.3-27.6). Splenectomy, R1 (microscopically incomplete) resection, and advanced stage were independent risk factors for poor prognosis.

R1 resection, splenectomy, and advanced TNM stage were associated with poor prognosis in gastric cancer. Splenectomy should be avoided in the absence of direct invasion of the tumour or metastasis of lymph nodes on splenic hilum to prevent postoperative infectious complication-related mortality.

We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of the increasement in the ileocolic artery and vein diameters considering the body mass index (BMIs) of the patients with acute appendicitis.

Between January 2016 and April 2019, 76 patients who were diagnosed with acute appendicitis by contrast-enhanced abdominal multislice computerized tomography (MSCT) and had histopathologically confirmed appendicitis after an appendectomy were included in this study. To evaluate the value of MSCT, we created a control group, which consisted of 81 patients who had contrast-enhanced MSCT for other reasons and had no clinical and radiological findings suspicious for acute appendicitis and also had no other abdominal pathology that might interfere with ileocolic artery and vein diameter. In both groups, ileocolic artery and vein diameters were measured in axial MSCT scan. The body mass index was calculated for each patient (kg/m
). Both groups were divided into three subgroups according to the BMI of patients (20-24.9; 25-29.9 and more than 30). Both groups and subgroups were compared individually. Statistical significance level was accepted as p <0.05.

Ileocolic artery and vein diameters were higher in the patient group than control group, which was statistically significant (p<0.001), and a positive correlation was found between BMI and ileocolic artery and vein diameters (p < 0.001).

Ileocolic artery and vein diameters with taking BMI into consideration can be used as alternative criteria in the suspicion of acute appendicitis in adults.

To compare the efficacy of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the detection of liver metastases originating from the gastrointestinal system (GIS) and the pancreaticobiliary (PB) system.

This retrospective study included 42 patients with primary GIS (stomach or colorectal) or PB system malignancies that metastasized to the liver, histopathologically confirmed diagnoses, and MRI and 18F-FDG PET/CT images. The MRI and 18F-FDG PET/CT images were analyzed. Student's t-test was used to compare the two modalities in terms of determining the number of metastases, and Cohen's kappa test was conducted to determine the agreement between the modalities.

Twenty-eight (66.7%) of the patients included in this study were male, and the mean age was 60.67±9.4 years. Colon (n=25; 59.5%) and pancreatic (n=7; 16.6%) adenocarcinomas were the most common primary tumors that had metastasized to the liver. MRI detected more metastases in 12 (28.5%) patieeficial outcome for patients.
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread rapidly, locally and internationally after it started in Hubei province of China in December 2019. During the spread of this infectious disease in the world, health care workers are taking place as the main people in the screening and treatment of the disease. The present study aims to evaluate the relationship between anxiety and depression levels with perceived stress and coping strategies in health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this study, 200 participants were included. Beck Anxiety Inventory (BDI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) and COPE (Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced) were applied.

Mean scores for BDI and BAI were 9.2±8.9 and 8.2±9.2, respectively. BDI scores of 33 (16.5%) of 200 participants were ≥17. 62% of the participants had minimal depression, 21.5% of the participants had mild depression, 13.5 % of the participants had moderate depression, and 3% of the participants had severe depressaladaptive and negative coping mechanisms can cause symptoms to exacerbate. Thus, training should be given to developing attitudes of health care workers to cope with stress.
This study indicated that different coping strategies can be used in health care workers regarding anxiety, depression and stress levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. While problem-solving and emotion-focused adaptive coping mechanisms help reduce symptoms, maladaptive and negative coping mechanisms can cause symptoms to exacerbate. Thus, training should be given to developing attitudes of health care workers to cope with stress.
