To evaluate the phenotypic detection of extended-spectrum betalactamase in multidrug-resistant acinetobacter baumannii.
The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Microbiology, Fauji Foundation Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from August 2018 to April 2019, after the ethical approval from the Institutional Review Committee. Consecutive Non- probability sampling technique was used, and comprised clinical specimens, including pus, blood, sputum, urine, tracheal tubes and canula double lumen, which were processed using standard protocols. Colonies of acinetobacter baumannii were identified by gram staining and Analytical Profile Index-20E kit. learn more Combination disc method was used for the identification of extended-spectrum beta-lactamse. Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines were used for antimicrobial susceptibility. Data was analysed using SPSS 22 and Sample size was calculated by using earlier study with 5 % margin of error and 95 % confidence level.
Of the 78 isolates, 58(74.4%) related to females and 20(25.6%) to males. There was no extended-spectrum beta-lactamse producer. Imipenem, meropenem, cefotaxime, ampicillin and ceftazidime showed 100% resistance, while colistin and polymyxin B were sensitive to all strains. The incidence rate was high in samples isolated from tracheal tubes 47(60.3%), followed by pus 21(26.9%). Age was not found to be a significant factor (p>0.05).
Acinetobacter baumannii showed a high resistance to multiple drugs and was not confined to any specific age group. Colistin and polymyxin B were found to be better choices.

To identify gender and age differences in alexithymia and anxiety.
The cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2018 to March 2019 at Burewala, a city of South Punjab and comprised adolescents selected through random sampling method from different schools. The subjects were assessed using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. Multiple analysis of variance was applied to determine the direct and interactive effects of age groups and gender on alexithymia and anxiety symptoms.
Of the 185 subjects, 105(57%) were boys and 80(43%) were girls. The overall mean age was 14.42+/-1.31 years (range 11-16 years). Boys had significantly (p<0.05) higher level of alexithymia symptoms partially compared to the girls. Significant (p<0.05) interactive effects of age and gender were also noted.
The presence of clinical symptoms in schoolgoing adolescents may hinder physical and psychological health of adolescents.

To translate, adapt and validate the Adult Self-Report tool in Urdu language, and to establish internal consistency of its subscales.
The cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2017 to August 2018 at the National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, and comprised adult stable psychiatric outpatients and non-clinical subjects from the community. After forward and backward translation of Adult Self-Report, the tool was tested on the subjects who responded on a three-point Likert scale from 'never' to 'very often'. The items were grouped under eight subscales. Data was analysed using SPSS 22.
Of the 768 participants, 408(53%) were outpatients and 360(47%) were non-clinical subjects. The overall age range was 18-59 years. The tool was found to be effective for Pakistani sample, with root mean square error of approximation (0.03), comparative fit index (0.94) and Tucker-Lewis Index (0.94) values indicating good fit. Also, al items indicated good factor loadings (range 0.25-0.94). Alpha values indicated that all subscales were internally consistent (range 0.64-0.92).
Adult Self-Report was found to be a comprehensive tool showing a good model fit for Pakistani population.

To estimate the levels of myeloperoxidase in various stages of chronic kidney disease, and to correlate them with an inflammatory marker and lipid profile.
The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Biochemistry Department, Basic Medical Sciences Institute, in collaboration with the Nephrology Department, Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre, Karachi, from January 2013 to September 2014, and comprised chronic kidney disease patients and healthy controls. Serum cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, C-reactive protein and myeloperoxidase levels were noted. Data was subjected to statistical analysis.
Of the 150 subjects, 84(56%) were cases and 66(44%) were controls. Weight, body mass index, triglycerides, very low-density lipoprotein, C-reactive protein and myeloperoxidase levels were significantly higher among the cases compared to the controls (p<0.05). Serum myeloperoxidase had a significantly positive association with C-reactive protein (p<0.01), cholesterol (p<0.01), triglycerides (p<0.01), low-density lipoprotein (p<0.01) and very low-density lipoprotein (p<0.01), and had a negative correlation with high-density lipoprotein (p<0.01).
Myeloperoxidase concentration had association with lipid profile and C-reactive protein.

To compare the effects of motivational interviewing with conventional physical therapy in the rehabilitation of chronic musculoskeletal disorders compared to conventional physical therapy alone.
The quasi-experimental study was conducted from September 2017 to March 2018 after approval from the University of Health Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised patients with chronic musculoskeletal disorders enrolled from various outpatient physical therapy clinics in Lahore. The subjects were alternatively allocated to intervention group A and control group B, with the former receiving motivational interviewing along with conventional physical therapy, and the latter receiving conventional physical therapy alone. The effects of the intervention were measured using visual analogue scale, patient-specific functional scale and exercise compliance chart with two-week follow-up. Data was analysed using SPSS 21.
Of the 96 subjects, there were 48(50%) in each of the two groups. There were 21(44%) males and 27(56%) females in group A with a mean age of 50.
