Treating the mass balance experiments, which were repeated seven times within nine days, as individual quantifications of the Balt-Wash CO2 emissions, the estimation uncertainty was ±16 % (standard error of the mean at 95% CL). Our aircraft-based estimate was compared to various bottom-up fossil fuel CO2 (FFCO2) emission inventories. Based on the FLAGG-MD aircraft observations, we estimate 1.9±0.3 MtC of FFCO2 from the Balt-Wash area during the month of February 2015. The mean estimate of FFCO2 from the four bottom-up models was 2.2±0.3 MtC.Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix (NECC) accounts for 2% of all cervical cancers. Brain metastasis is rare, with few cases described in the literature, and is usually associated with preceding pulmonary metastasis. We describe an additional case of isolated brain metastasis without pulmonary metastasis from NECC and reflect on unique management. A 37-year-old woman with a history of NECC presented with severe headache post-total hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection. The computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated obstructive hydrocephalus with several intra-axial lesions located in the pineal region, left cerebellar hemisphere, and left frontal operculum. A right frontal ventriculostomy was initially placed to relieve the hydrocephalus. CSF was sent for cytology but was unrevealing. Due to the degree of brainstem compression and the need to obtain a pathologic diagnosis, a posterior fossa craniotomy for the removal of the lesion was performed. Histopathology demonstrated small blue cell tumors pCC has a propensity for early dissemination and treatment failure. ETV is preferred over ventriculoperitoneal shunting in cases with obstructive hydrocephalus, as it may reduce the risk of tumor seeding. Retrospectively, our patient may have benefitted from upfront craniospinal radiation.Claudication in the young population is a rare condition derived from varied neurogenic and vascular conditions. We report a case of bilateral claudication of the lower extremities in a young athlete after intense training. Apart from tenderness to deep palpation of the popliteal fossa, physical and laboratory examinations did not reveal any abnormal findings. According to the patient's symptoms, sciatic nerve entrapment to the popliteal fossa was suspected and bilateral surgical exploration of the sciatic nerve was performed. The sciatic nerve was found to be entrapped before its division to the tibial and common peroneal nerves from the terminal branch of the small saphenous vein (SSV) into the popliteal vein (PV). The terminal section of SSV was subsequently ligated and resected to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve. One year after surgery, the patient was able to run long distances as well as sprint and train without any restriction. Rare conditions may lead to pseudoclaudication in young individuals and athletes during exercise. Normal physical and laboratory tests must raise the suspicion of sciatic nerve compression from fibrous bands or abnormal anastomotic veins that may also exist bilaterally. Surgical exploration along with sciatic nerve release remains the only treatment solution when conservative treatment fails to alleviate the symptoms. This report describes a case involving a balloon kyphoplasty bone tamp becoming lodged inside the vertebral body and unable to be withdrawn, the first report of its kind in the literature. A board certified interventional pain management physician was performing a balloon kyphoplasty for an L3 osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture using a bipedicular approach with two bone tamps. Cannulation and cavity formation were completed without complication; however, upon removal of the balloons it was noted that one had become lodged in the vertebral body. Several attempts were made to remove the balloon. Neurosurgery and the balloon manufacturer were consulted intraoperative, and it was decided to leave the balloon fragments in situ and complete the interventional fixation of the vertebral body with bone cement. The patient followed up in the clinic several months later without neurologic complications. Postoperative radiography confirmed the presence of a retained foreign body consistent with balloon fragments. ART899 inhibitor Balloon kyphoplasty and its various procedural complications will be discussed, as well as the intraoperative decision making faced when encountering a complication. Background Malnutrition is a significant public health concern and a leading contributor to the global burden of children's diseases, affecting 50 to 150 million children under the age of five years worldwide. Globally, undernutrition accounts for approximately 33% of the deaths among under-fives. South Asia alone contributes to 50% and 38.8% of the world's population of wasted and stunted children, respectively. In Pakistan, malnutrition is the leading cause of childhood mortality, accounting for nearly 35% of all deaths under five years of age. Severe acute malnutrition (SAM), the most severe form of malnutrition, is often associated with electrolyte imbalances. This study aimed to determine the frequency of electrolyte imbalance in children with SAM admitted at a tertiary care hospital. Methods This cross-sectional study includes 184 patients with SAM aged between 6 and 60 months, who were admitted at the inpatient Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Ruth K. M. Pfau, Civil Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan, from Januavoid fatal outcomes. We suggest that more research with better study designs should be conducted to develop policies and strategies for successfully combating malnutrition in Pakistan. In the meantime, we recommend adopting national guidelines for the management of acute malnutrition to reduce morbidity and mortality.Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is an incompletely understood liver disease which results in systemic accumulation of bile acids, associated with maternal pruritus and increased risk of intrauterine fetal death. Onset is typically in the third trimester; however, rare cases have been reported early in the first trimester. We present a case of severe, early onset ICP at five weeks gestation in a spontaneous pregnancy. The patient was treated successfully with ursodeoxycholic acid and, after close obstetrical surveillance, delivered a healthy female infant via induced delivery at 34 weeks six days.
