Retinal hemorrhages (RH) are a common manifestation of abusive head trauma (AHT) resulting from acceleration-deceleration injury with or without blunt impact. In this systematic review, we sought to identify whether coagulopathies have been reported with RH similar to those of AHT.

We performed a literature search for ocular manifestations of bleeding disorders in children less than 18 years old. We included clotting factor deficiencies, vitamin K deficiency, platelet function abnormalities, thrombocytopenia, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and trauma induced coagulopathy (TIC). We included only pediatric reports of intraocular bleeding or documented eye examinations that indicated no hemorrhages. We then re-examined cases for ocular and systemic findings that could potentially mimic abuse.

Our initial search yielded 816 results. Sixty-one articles met our inclusion criteria. selleck compound Of these, there were 32 children within the AHT age range (less than 5 years old) who had RH and concomitant coagulopathy. Only 5 cases might potentially be confused for abuse. Of these, no classic characteristics of RH from abuse such as retinoschisis or retinal folds were found. Research has long shown that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are correlated with major risk factors for several of the leading causes of death in adults. However, only recently have studies begun to measure the impact of ACEs during childhood and on underserved populations.

This study assessed the prevalence of 8 ACEs, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, among rural U.S. Latino children of immigrant parents. We examined the association of those adversities with several factors including emotional and behavioral difficulties, health problems and healthcare utilization.

A total of 100 Latino subjects (ages 8-17) were recruited from a community health center in Southwest Florida.

Parents and children were asked to complete the Child Trust Events Survey to measure child ACEs; Parents were asked to complete the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire to measure child emotional and behavioral problems.

Child ACEs ranged from 1.38 (parent-report) to 1.56 (child self-report) with emotional abuse, incarceration, and loss/separation from a caregiver being the most common. ACEs were correlated with emotional symptoms (p = .038 for child-report; p = .043 for parent-report), hyperactivity/inattention problems (p = .011 for parent-report), and with total behavioral difficulties (p = .021 for parent-report). There was a negative correlation between ACES and child chronic health diagnosis (p = .038 for parent-report; p = .010 for child-report) and total health problems (p = .021). There was no significant relationship between ACEs and healthcare utilization.

Acceleration of radiotherapy in 5 fractions for breast cancer can reduce the burden of treatment. We report on acute toxicity after whole-breast irradiation with a simultaneous integrated boost in 5 fractions over 10-12 days.

Acute toxicity and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of 200 patients, randomized between a 15- or 5-fractions schedule, were collected, using the CTCAE toxicity scoring system, the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory, EORTC QLQ-C30 and BR23 and the BREAST-Q questionnaire. The prescribed dose to the breast was either 15∗2.67Gy (40.05Gy) or 5∗5.7Gy (28.5Gy). 90% of patients received a SIB to a cumulative dose of 46.8Gy (15∗3.12Gy) or 31Gy (5∗6.2Gy).

Pseudocyst of the auricle is a benign cystic lesions of the ear. A variety of methods have been proposed priorly with different treatment effects. Although aggressive treatments may have good results, we aimed to introduce a less invasive method that also yield optimal cosmetic outcome.

From August 2019 to April 2020, a total of 32 patients with pseudocyst of the auricle were treated with a novel negative pressure drainage method.

The treatment has performed successfully in all patients. Only 2 patients experienced negative pressure drainage device detachment, and recovered smoothly after reinstallment. Patients were followed up for an average period of 3months. The appearance of the auricle was recovered excellent in all patients. There were no postoperative complications or episodes of recurrence during the follow-up period.

Considering the excellent cosmetic outcome and free of recurrence, we would recommend our negative pressure drainage method as a first-line treatment for all patients with auricular pseudocyst.

In addition, the variation of Fvs of 137Cs and 90Sr with crop components, growth stages of plants and the influence of mineral fertilisation were investigated. The experiments were performed in an open field and the results were expressed as geometric means. The data revealed that Fvs of both radionuclides were higher in Aridisol than Inceptisol for all crops by about 1.03-4.86 fold. Fvs of 90Sr were more enhanced than those of 137Cs by one or two orders of magnitude despite plant group and soil type, e.g. Fvs ranged 0.12-5.2 for 90Sr and 0.0035-0.26 for 137Cs in the vegetative portion of the crops. Among the six crop groups investigated, cereals gave the lowest Fvs for both radionuclides, which is compatible with the data reported worldwide.
