Really does diaphragm ultrasound enhance the quick short inhaling list accuracy with regard to guessing the achievements satisfy via mechanical air-flow?
The doping substances of varied nature seem to have adverse cardiovascular effects whose physiopathology remains a research and investigation track. Further randomized trials are needed to better understand the interaction of these doping substances taken in a combined way in athletes.INTRODUCTION There is growing evidence that formative assessment is valuable tool in enhancing learning. Integrating formative assessment into post graduate students can be challenging. AIM Authors aimed in this study to describe an ongoing formative assessment activity in post graduates. We reported resident's performance and satisfaction. METHODS Authors performed an exploratory study over a 3-year period. Twenty five oncology residents participated. The first phase was test preparation by senior oncologists, according to residency curricula then taking the test by a small group of residents with an immediate feedback. The third phase was distribution of a survey each 6 months evaluating resident's perception of the testing. RESULTS Twenty two tests were taken by 17 medical oncology, 2 surgical oncology and 4 radiation therapy residents. At the first test, median scores was 51/100 [30%-72%] with a mean of 53/100. Individual scores of each resident improved with time, becoming 68/100 (t(16)=3.172, p less then 0.02) with a mean of 64/100 and decrease between student's scores. All the students rated the correction session with a 5. The majority reported that the test reached their expectations (73% rated4-5), and considered it, as having an impact on their daily practice (77% rated4-5). Residents also considered the test as highly difficult (80% rated4-5). CONCLUSION Ongoing formative assessment showed improvement in overall knowledge of residents with high level of satisfaction.AIM To describe the bibliometric characteristics of Tunisian publications on respiratory tract diseases, during the quinquennium 2010-2014. METHODS This is a descriptive bibliometric study of respiratory medicine publications, indexed in "Medline", based on their MSDSs. AZD3514 All included articles were written by Tunisian researchers regardless of their position in the list of co-authors. The topics of the publications were explored through their "major" and "generic" keywords. RESULTS A total of 340 publications was captured in Medline. These articles were co- authored by 218 authors in first position and 163 in last position. They were signed by pulmonologists, in first and last position respectively in 21.5% and 22.4% of articles. The A. Mami Hospital was the major affiliation of the first authors in 19.7% of the publications. These articles were published by 138 journals including "La Tunisie Medicale" in 11.8% of cases. They were "case reports" and written in English respectively in 44.4% and 54.1% of cases. Among 639 major keywords indexing, three were dominant «Lung Neoplasms» (Tumeurs du poumon), «Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease» (Broncho-pneumopathie chronique obstructive) and «Tuberculosis, Pulmonary» (Tuberculose pulmonaire), in 13.5%, 10.3% and 7.4% of articles respectively. CONCLUSION Tunisian research on respiratory tract diseases has been thematically concordant with the public health needs. However, it has often been of low-level evidence and published in low-impact factor journals. The acute ischemia of the lower limb on the veno-arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is a frequent and dangerous complication that can put the vital and functional prognosis at risk. Several risk factors have been incriminated and the lack of a sufficient distal perfusion is the most common. We report the case of an 11-year-old girl with veno-arterial ECMO for acute myocarditis complicated by severe acute lower limb ischemia.INTRODUCTION Anguillulosis is a ubiquitous digestive parasitosis. Rare in Tunisia, it is due to a round worm, strongyloid stercoralis, whose natural lodging is the duodeno-jejunal mucosa. Its malignant form is rare but it represents a potentially life-threatening disease. AIM We report a case of malignant anguillulosis occurring in a context of immunosuppression. OBSERVATION The case we report is about a 46-year-old man treated by a long-term corticosteroid therapy for Takayasu disease. He was hospitalized for an acute digestive syndrome. Biopsies were performed but the evolution was rapidly marked by multiorgan failure, sepsis and death of the patient. Histological analysis of the digestive biopsies concluded to an oeso-gastroduodenal anguillulosis. CONCLUSION Anguillulosis is a rare parasitosis but it can pose a health problem especially in its malignant form wich can be a life-threatening.Lumbosciatica is a frequent symptom. When it is hyperalgic and/or deficient, it requires urgent exploration and an eventual surgical procedure. In most of the cases, medullary lumbar (instead of medullary) MRI is required looking in the first place at an intervertebral disc herniation. Other etiologies are rare but must be kept in mind. We report a case of a 37-year-old man with left L5 hyperalgic and deficient lumbosciatica. The conclusion of the etiological research led to pseudoaneurysm of the internal iliac artery compressing the ipsilateral sciatic nerve. The patient was operated on with a good clinical course.BACKGROUND Insuline-like growth factor I (IGF1) is a peptide growth factor that promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis. AIM To examine the association of genetic variants in IGF1 (rs12423791, rs1019731, rs5742632, rs2033178 and rs2373722) with risk of colon cancer in Tunisia. METHODS The study included 76 formalin-fixed paraffin embedded primary colorectal carcinomas and paired normal colon. The five IGF1 polymorphisms were determined by polymerase chain-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). RESULT A significant differences in genotypes and alleles frequency of the five examined IGF1 polymorphisms was determined between tumor and healthy tissues of colon cancer patients (P less then 0,01). While, no significant association was found between genetic variation in IGF1 variants and clinic-pathological parameters in tumors tissues. Expect for rs2373722, a statistically significant correlation was detected between tumor localization and the presence of the (A) mutated allele (OR=0,49; 95% CI 0,25-0,99; P=0,03).
