As current methods to extract Ca-fatty acid soaps from feces give low recoveries an accurate assay to determine the amount of fatty acid soaps in feces was developed.

Ca-fatty acid soaps are determined indirectly after non-soap fatty acid compounds have been extracted from the feces. Synthetic Ca-fatty acid soaps of different chain lengths (C12-C18) and degree of saturation (C180-C182) were incubated with several solvents to find the solvents that least-solubilize the Ca-fatty acid soaps. A three-step extraction was devised using extractions with hexane, hexane-isopropanol and water either at room temperature or at 60°C, 37°C, or 80°C, respectively. Feces were spiked with free fatty acids, Ca-fatty acid soaps, Na-fatty acid salts, and phospholipids.

All of the free fatty acids and phospholipids and almost all of the Na-fatty acid salts were removed and 98% of Ca-lauric acid soap, 99% of Ca-stearic acid soap, and 93% of oleic acid soap were recovered.

The method is suitable for determining fatty acids in the form of Ca-fatty acid soaps in feces.

Does the gonadotropin (GN) starting dose and the addition of clomiphene citrate (CC) during the early follicular phase influence oocyte yield in poor responders undergoing ovarian stimulation for IVF treatment?

The number of retrieved oocytes was similar regardless of the starting dose of GN (150 versus 450 IU) with or without the addition of CC (100 mg from Day 3 to 7 versus placebo).

ART in poor responders is a challenge for patients and clinicians. So far, randomised controlled studies addressing interventions have shown that neither the GN dose nor the addition of oral medication has any significant effect on the clinical outcome of ART in poor responders. Spirituality is recognized as an important issue in health care, and every individual has spiritual needs. Despite increased knowledge about spiritual care and its necessity, there is no unique agreed-upon framework for spiritual care among the practitioners. This study aimed to explore the concept from the viewpoint of both health-care providers and patients within the Iranian social, cultural and overall contexts and present a charter for providing spiritual care.

The first phase of the study was a systematic literature review. The next phase consisted of two qualitative studies on the components of spiritual care from the perspective of healthcare providers and its dimensions as perceived by patients. The findings were then integrated to make up a charter draft that was accredited through expert opinion.

The review of literatures led to the identification of two main themes and 10 themes. Perspectives of health-care providers were categorized into four main themes and 10 themes, and patients' opinions were classified into three main themes and 11 themes. The themes and their subthemes were integrated to build the concepts and form the proposed charter with 30 statements.
