Pleural mesothelioma cancer in the festival worker.
Epidemiological studies have shown a high prevalence and concurrence between depression and substance use. This is known as "dual diagnosis" and is associated with a worse prognosis for patients.

To establish the comorbidity between depressive symptoms and substance abuse in patients admitted with acute or chronic diseases to a public hospital.

A descriptive, cross-sectional study of prevalence which included 296 patients aged 18-65, to whom the PHQ-9 and ASSIST 3.0 scales were applied to determine the prevalence of depressive symptoms and substance abuse. Other clinical and sociodemographic variables were also taken into account.

50.7% were women with a median age of 41 and an interquartile range of 27 years. Moderate-to-severe depressive symptoms were found in 27.4% of the patients. Alcohol was the substance with the highest consumption in the previous 3 months with 53.7%, followed by cigarettes (47.6%), marijuana (26.7%) and cocaine (14.5%). A significant association was found between severe depressive symptoms PHQ-9 ≥ 20 and problematic use of alcohol, marijuana and cocaine (ASSIST score >26); alcohol (RP 27.30, 95% CI [2.37-314.16], P = 0.01); marijuana (RP 15.00, 95% CI [3.46-64.96], P = 0.001) and cocaine (RP 10.65, 95% CI [2.23-51.10], P = 0.01).

A high prevalence of depressive symptoms and substance use was found in patients hospitalised for non-psychiatric medical conditions, which worsens the prognosis of the underlying medical condition.

To provide better hospital care for patients, we need to give visibility to the problem of dual pathology. This could be achieved by conducting more related research in these clinical scenarios.

The analysis of songs as discursive practices contributes to the understanding of the social representations of mental disorders in specific populations, as has been suggested in the literature. The aim of this article is to expand the knowledge about the depictions of madness (a broader but less delimited concept than psychosis) in the popular music focussing on emerging themes and their cross relations within the discourses of the madness in Spanish punk.

Qualitative research method. Rapamycin inhibitor After the review of 3653 songs (1981-2010) insights from the Thematic Analysis of all the 163 identified lyrics of Spanish punk songs with the terms 'mad,' 'madness' or other related words are provided.

After a thorough discussion of the main themes, the expression of subculture's identity became evident. Its otherness was recognizable on the exaltation of madness as loss of control or unpredictability as well as its links with crime, substance abuse or ideological opposition, among others.

The idea of dangerousness linked to 'madness' emerges as a final pathway of different identified themes, suggesting a potential explanation for the general population attitudes towards the theme of madness.

Describe the beliefs of parents about the mental disorders of their children who attended a paediatric outpatient clinic at a university hospital.

This was a descriptive study with parents of children with mental disorders seen from January to May of 2018 at a high complexity hospital in Medellin, Colombia. Ninety-eight (98) parents of children and adolescents attending their first outpatient consultation with Paediatric Psychiatry were studied. An instrument designed by the investigators was applied to obtain demographic variables and beliefs about the origin of their child's mental disorder, treatment and adjuvants.

49.9% of the 98 parents believed that their child had a mental disorder. 43.9% believed the disorder was inherited and 41.8% believed its cause was organic. 95.9% of the parents believed the child needed treatment, including psychotherapy (90.4%) and medication (58.51%). Among the alternative treatments the parents believed the child needed, healing was the most commonly cited by 27.5% of the parents. Of the adjuvant methods, the most commonly cited were reinforcing positive behaviour (82.7%) and correcting with words and setting a good example (72.4%).

Nearly half of the parents believed their child had a mental disorder, the treatment that was most commonly considered was psychotherapy above medication, and the best adjuvant methods cited by parents were reinforcing positive behaviour, correcting with words and setting a good example.

Caregiver burden syndrome has been highlighted as a neglected problem, in which a dependent person's caregiver must change their lifestyle while facing a range of stressors which they cannot always overcome. This leads to a state of physical and mental exhaustion, hindering the caregiver's performance at their work environment.

To define the caregiver burden syndrome prevalence among formal caregivers of mentally-ill dependent patients at Clínica del Oriente in the period 2016 II (July-December) and 2017 I (January-June).

A descriptive cross-sectional observational study was carried out in a population of formal caregivers of with mental illness institutionalised at either of the two facilities of Clínica del Oriente, La Ceja and El Carmen de Viboral. We used a survey with sociodemographic, clinical and work-related variables, and the Zarit Burden Interview.

53 caregivers were analysed; 11 had the syndrome (20.8%), 17% had mild burden and 3.8% severe burden.

The prevalence of caregiver burden syndrome in formal caregivers was lower than found in studies on informal caregivers.
