Altered subcellular localizations of EC-typic claudin-5, vascular endothelial cadherin and von Willebrand factor were also observed. Taken together, all experiments with (retinal) EC cultivated in common DMEM need to be interpreted very cautiously and should at least include phenotypic validation.
Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) prevents unwanted pregnancy. An immediate postpartum period is a good opportunity to place IUCD for women who want to delay pregnancy. However, in Sub-Saharan Africa mainly in Ethiopia, this procedure is not widely used. This study aimed to determine the utilization and factors associated with an immediate postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device (IPPIUCD).
Multi-level facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from Januarey12 to March 12/2019GC on 423 women who delivered at selected hospitals of the west Gojjam zone. A systematic random sampling technique was applied to select study participants. Proportional allocations of samples were done based on the delivery caseload of each hospital. Data were entered in Epi info version 7.1 software and exported to SPSS version 23 for editing, cleaning, and analysis. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis were performed to determine factors associated with the utilization of IPPIUCD.
The utind above education, being counseled about IPPIUCD, and needing above 36 months birth spacing were significant factors for utilization of IPPIUCD. Encouraging women's education and informing health professionals of the importance of IPPIUCD may enhance IPPIUCD utilization. This finding may be useful in both reproductive health promotion at an individual level and policy-making regarding this issue.Kinetic and physicochemical properties of Moringa oleifera peroxidase purified using a novel and cost efficient protocol was investigated with a view to providing information on its possible biotechnological potentials. Moringa oleifera peroxidase was purified to homogeneity in two steps, involving ATPS and size exclusion chromatography on Sephadex G-100 with a yield of 84.12 %. In-gel activity staining revealed the presence of one isoform of peroxidase. The purified peroxidase is monomeric with native and subunits molecular weight of 38.9 and 43.5 kDa respectively. Kinetic parameters - Vmax, Km(app)o-dianisidine, Km(app)H2O2 of the purified enzyme were 2.5 units/mg protein, 0.020 ± 0.04 mM and 1.37 ± 0.18 mM respectively. Its optimum pH and temperature were 5 and 30 °C respectively. The purified enzyme cross-linked BSA into an insoluble matrix with the aid of caffeic acid. The study concluded that the purification scheme adopted is rapid and efficient, the purified enzyme exhibited some physiochemical properties that make it suitable for various biotechnological applications.Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer-enclosed microparticles that have prominent roles in the intercellular crosstalk. EVs are secreted after fusion of endosomes with the plasma membrane (exosomes) or shed from the plasma membrane (microvesicles). These microparticles modulate bone marrow microenvironment and alter differentiation and expansion of normal hematopoietic cells. EVs originated from mesenchymal stromal cells have been shown to enhance expansion of myeloid-biased hematopoietic progenitor cells. In addition, megakaryocytic microparticles stimulate differentiation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells into mature megakaryocytes. The ability of EVs in induction of maturation and expansion of certain hematopoietic cells has implications in transfusion medicine and in targeted therapeutic modalities. Important prerequisites for these interventions are identification the specific targets of EVs, transferred biomolecules and molecular mechanisms underlying the fate decision in the target cells. EVs are also involved in the pathogenesis and progression of hematological malignancies including acute leukemia and multiples myeloma. In the current review, we provide a summary of studies which evaluated the significance of EVs in normal hematopoiesis and hematological malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of institutional research promoting policies and organizational characteristics on research productivity in Vietnam universities. The authors employed a dataset surveying faculty staff from 115 universities across the country and used multivariate data analysis to analyse data and test hypotheses. It was found that institutional characteristics such as size, time in operation and advantageous location were positively associated with research productivity. Specifically, universities located in the big cities with longer time in operation and larger size had higher level of international publication. Institutional policies such as management and infrastructure had a positive impact on research productivity while human resource policies had a positive impact on faculty research outcomes. The study also provided some suggestions to promote research productivity of Vietnam universities.Mancozeb (MZ) is a broad-spectrum fungicide used worldwide in several crops. Neurological disorders in humans and animals have been associated with exposure to this compound by mechanisms still not fully understood. Drosophila melanogaster represents a reliable model in toxicological studies, presenting genetic and biochemical similarities with mammals. In this study, D. melanogaster flies were exposed for 15 days to MZ through the food (5 and 10 mg/mL). After that period, the efficiency of mitochondrial respiration complexes and metabolic markers were analyzed and evaluated. Flies presented weight loss, lower glucose, trehalose, and glycogen levels, and augmented levels of triglycerides concerning control (non-treated group). Acetyl-CoA Synthetase (ACeCS-1) and Acyl-Coenzyme Synthetase (ACSL1) contents were unchanged by MZ treatment. Mitochondrial respiration of flies was targeted by MZ treatment, evidenced by a decrease in oxygen consumption and bioenergetics rate and inhibition in mitochondrial complexes I/II. Taselisib datasheet These results suppose that an impairment in mitochondrial respiration jointly with reduced levels of energetic substrates might be a mechanism involved in MZ deleterious effects, possibly by the limitation of ATP's availability, necessary for essential cellular processes.
