Sand art painting merupakan seni melukis dengan media pasir. Kesenian ini berkembang di Hungaria, dikembangkan seniman bernama Ferenc Cako, pada tahun 1994. Namun Ferenc Cako memopulerkan kesenian ini di atas kaca yg terhubung dengan monitor seperti sekarang. Tradisi sandpaintings sebenarnya telah dilakukan masyarakat suku Navajo di Amerika Latin sebagai teknik pengobatan dalam tradisi mereka, setelah lukisan dibuat pada akhir ritual lukisan tersebut akan dihancurkan sebagai alat pengobatan.
Cara membuat lukisan pasir :
Dengan perlahan-lahan menetes pasir melewati tangan ke epoksi yang tertutup papan partikel, menggunakan pasir yang terbuat dari batu hancur secara alami berwarna, batu, dan mineral untuk nuansa yang berbeda.

Bisa dibilang bahwa Dennye Darko adalah pelukis pasir pertama di indonesia. Walaupun professi sebenarnya adalah pesulap, namun dia menjadi awal dari masuknya seni lukis pasir di media dan seni indonesia saat ini.
Pasir yang diwarnai atau bubuk mineral berwarna baik alami maupun sintesis ke permukaan objek yang akan dilukis. Macam-macam sand art painting :
