Data considered the period between 2000 and 2017 and was obtained from CPTEC/INPE. Annual and monthly analyzes were performed based on descriptive, exploratory (boxplot) and multivariate statistics analyzes (cluster analysis (CA), principal component analysis (PCA)) and Poisson regression models (based on 2000 and 2010 census data). CA based on the Ward method identified five fire foci homogeneous groups (G1 to G5), while Coruripe did not classify within any group (NA); therefore, the CA technique was consistent (CCC = 0.772). Group G1 is found in all regions of Alagoas, while G2, G5, and NA groups are found in Baixo São Francisco, Litoral, and Zona da Mata regions. Most fire foci were observed in the Litoral region. Seasonally, the largest records were from October to December months for all groups, influenced by the sugarcane harvesting period. The G4 group and Coruripe accounted for 60,767 foci (32.1%). The highest number of fire foci occurred in 2012 and 2015 (between 8000 and 9000 foci), caused by the action of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation. The Poisson regression showed that the dynamics of fire foci are directly associated with the Gini index and Human Development Index (models 1 and 3). Based on the PCA, the three components captured 78.8% of the total variance explained, and they were strongly influenced by the variables population, GDP, and demographic density. The municipality of Maceió has the largest contribution from the fire foci, with values higher than 40%, and in PC1 and PC2 are related to urban densification and population growth.The giant left atrium is described as an atrium with a diameter of 6.5 cm or larger and which can rarely cause dysphagia by compressing on the esophagus. We performed mitral valve replacement in our case and transformed the giant left atrium into an anatomical chamber with the technique we applied. In this way, we successfully eliminated cardiac and compression symptoms. Cardiac causes of dysphagia are rarely seen, usually, cardiac complaints are more prominent than dysphagia. However, it should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis. We think that cardiac mortality and morbidity may be prevented with early diagnosis and treatment.
Resection for hepatic recurrence after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer may be curative; however, the prediction of hepatic recurrence remains intractable. Therefore, we aimed to explore predictive markers for hepatic recurrence in gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer based on genetic information.

This study recruited 154 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy for pathological stage II or III primary gastric and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. selleck products Genes associated with hepatic recurrence were comprehensively analyzed using whole-exome sequencing and gene expression profiling (GEP), followed by immunohistochemistry analysis for MAGEA10. The cumulative incidences of hepatic recurrence, relapse-free survival, and overall survival were evaluated.

A total of 12 patients with early hepatic recurrences were found within 2years of surgery. Although there were no distinct gene mutations in recurrent patients, upregulation of MAGEA10 was identified in patients with early hepatic recurrence using GEP analysis. Immunostaining for MAGEA10 stained the cell nuclei in 29 (18.8%) of 154 samples. Furthermore, protein expression of MAGEA10 on immunohistochemistry was significantly related to a high MAGEA10 mRNA expression, high cumulative incidences of hepatic recurrence, and poor relapse-free survival. Overall survival did not differ significantly between positive and negative immunohistochemical staining for MAGEA10. The sensitivity and specificity of MAGEA10 staining for early hepatic recurrence were 58.3% and 84.5%, respectively.

Cardiac T2* MRI is currently the gold standard for assessing myocardial iron concentration. The aim of our study was to assess whether any echocardiographic parameter would correlate with these findings in patients well established on chelation therapy. This was a prospective study on patients with TM who are regularly followed in our clinic. Patients had a cardiac MRI and echocardiogram within 2 months of each other. Echo parameters included global longitudinal strain and diastolic function. We also compared these findings with those from a cohort of thalassemia intermedia (TI) and normal controls. A total of 84 patients (mean age 26.3 ± 6.1 years, 42.8% male) with TM were enrolled. All had normal left ventricular ejection fraction and only 8 patients had MRI T2*  20 ms features of diastolic dysfunction persist even in the presence of normal LV function and normal GLS. This suggests that diastolic function remains abnormal even when myocardial iron concentrations are normal and follow up therefore is essential.Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) in sub-Saharan African countries are related to low dietary I intake and generally combatted through salt iodisation. Agronomic biofortification of food crops may be an alternative approach. This study assessed the effectiveness of I biofortification of green vegetables (Brassica napus L and Amaranthus retroflexus L.) grown in tropical soils with contrasting chemistry and fertility. Application rates of 0, 5 and 10 kg ha-1 I applied to foliage or soil were assessed. Leaves were harvested fortnightly for ~ 2 months after I application before a second crop was grown to assess the availability of residual soil I. A separate experiment was used to investigate storage of I within the plants. Iodine concentration and uptake in sequential harvests showed a sharp drop within 28 days of I application in all soil types for all I application levels and methods. This rapid decline likely reflects I fixation in the soil. Iodine biofortification increased I uptake and concentration in the vegetables to a level useful for increasing dietary I intake and could be a feasible way to reduce IDD in tropical regions.
