How Much Does an EU Driving License Cost?
Everyone wants to have an ideal driving license, that will never expire. However, the reality is different.
To get a Polish driving license is a lot of procedures. The most crucial are: medical exam, theory and practical classes. It is also important to meet the age requirements for the category of the driving license.
1. Medical examination
To obtain your driver's license, first obtain the doctor's (orzeczenie Lkarskie) approval that you are qualified to drive. It may sound odd but this is the way it operates in Poland. The doctor will ask you a plethora of questions that aren't really relevant to your health, such as whether you suffer from problems with your eyesight, or any other medical issues but they will not actually examine you in any way. The cost of this test is approximately 200 PLN.
If you are coming from a country which is part of the EU, EEA, or a member of 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic you don't need to take this extra step as your driving license will be recognized as valid in Poland. If you're coming from a non-member country you must pass both a practical and theoretical test as well as a medical exam to obtain a Polish driving license.
It is possible to pass both of these tests in English. However, it depends on the center. It is recommended to call ahead and check availability before booking your appointment. It's also worth noting that in the event that you don't have a sufficient level of Polish to be able to pass the test, you'll need to hire an interpreter for the day.
Once you've got your medical certificate, you need to go to the district authorities and have an updated driver's profile (PKK Profile Kandydata na Kierowce). You'll need a scan of your passport as well as proof of your residency in Poland and a current photo in color.
Then, you go to a special office, where they create your personal file and scan your documents. They then give them to your. From there you can begin to prepare for the test and enroll at a driving academy. There are WORD facilities in all major towns and most smaller ones too however, most schools require a fee to hold their courses.
2. Theory test
If you hold a foreign driving license valid in Poland when you also have an International Driving Permit ("IDP"). You will need to have an IDP for any car that you drive in Poland for more than six months. It is necessary to exchange the IDP for a Polish license if you do not have one. You must meet four conditions for the process to be completed that include: you must be a Polish citizen and you must have passed a medical exam and you must pass a state-approved driving test and you must have completed your driving lessons at a driving school that has been recognized by the government.
To pass the driving test in the state, you need a Driving Candidate Profile (PKK) and other documents. These include your ID, medical certificate, a valid driving instructor's report, and a photocopy of your visa or residency permit. The driving test itself consists of two parts: the theory part and the practical part. The theory portion comprises 32 multiple-choice questions that cover topics such as traffic signs, road signs, emergency protocol, and safe driving practices. To pass you must be able to answer 26 questions.
The practical portion of your driving test involves driving on a public road under the supervision of a trained instructor. During the time, an instructor will be observing your ability to observe the rules of driving particularly in difficult conditions such as highways or city streets. The test will last approximately 40 minutes.
Before you can pass the state driving exam, it is necessary to apply for PKK (Driving Candidate Profile) at the Province Road Traffic Centers (Wojewodzkie Osrodki Ruchu Drogowego - WORD). You will need your identity document and proof that you have paid the required fee as well as a photograph of yourself. If you don't speak Polish an experienced translator can accompany you on the exam.
3. Practical test
You'll have to pass the practical test if driving on a foreign license. This test is more difficult than the one for theory and the passing rate is low. It is only possible to take the test on the spot only if you're legally resident of Poland. If you're not, your driving permit will be indefinite. You could also be fined if are stopped by the police for driving without a valid driving licence.
In order to pass the practical test you have to fill out an application form that is available online and to be completed in Polish (Google Translate can help). Also, you will require an official medical certificate that proves you are competent to drive.
You will need to bring an ID photo, proof of your health care coverage and one current photograph in colour (size 3,5 cm x 4,5 cm). You must register with the department of civil affairs as a driving candidate and this will require you to fill in an online profile of the driving candidate (RKK) and then receive a code number to use in the system.
It's a long and difficult process, especially in the event that your language skills are not adequate. It's best to hire an instructor who speaks English and schedule your lessons in advance. You can also find a driving schools that offer English lessons in some regions.
Anyone who is applying for an Polish driving license is required to provide a copy of the residence permit or visa for non-EU citizens. This is required to prove that you have resided in Poland for at least 185 days.
The office will require proof of payment both for the theory and practical test. The total cost of the process should be about 1500 PLN. Cash payments are accepted but it doesn't guarantee speedier processing of your documents. The entire process can take between two and four weeks. In some areas it can be longer. Ask your local office if you are not sure of the deadlines.
4. Documents
It is crucial for foreigners who want to drive in Poland to get a Polish driving license to avoid problems with their insurance coverage for cars. However, before they can do that they must pass the exam in theory and this will cost them. This process will be easier for foreigners who are citizens of countries who have signed the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic of 1968.
The first thing they must do is ensure that they have been in Poland for a minimum of six months. This must be proven by a local address registration, residence permit or visa. They must also fill out a complete application form. The form is available online or at an office in your area. You must also provide an up-to-date photo that measures 35 x 45 mm as well as documents of identification, such as a passport. Additionally, they should provide an official health care system which confirms that they do not have any health contraindications to driving.
The voivodship office will make the driving licence documents for issuance. This could take up to nine working days. If the case requires an extensive examination the wait time can be as long as one month.
In addition to the document proving their right to reside in Poland, a foreign citizen will need to provide a copy or a copy of their medical certificate. This is important since if they don't have an official health certificate, they'll be required to take the theory exam and again, which could increase the waiting time by up to 2 months.
After the driving license is issued the fee has to be paid at the office. This is 100 PLN for EU citizens and 250 PLN for citizens who are not EU citizens. lkw führerschein in polen can be paid by bank transfer or credit card, debit card or. The applicant will be issued the driver's license at their home address.
