Acute Myocardial Infarction-Like Occasions within Related Individuals Using a Desmoplakin-Associated Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy.
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has necessitated many healthcare workers operating on the frontlines. Another segment of the population whose mental well-being is being tested are the 'other essential workers' (e.g. supermarket workers). The current study aimed to compare the mental health of healthcare versus other essential workers in the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak. The COVID-19 and you mentaL heaLth in AusTralia now survEy (COLLATE) project is a nationwide online mental health survey launched on 1 April 2020, aimed at identifying key mental health concerns. Adults currently living in Australia were invited to take part, and non-discriminative snowball sampling was employed. Participants were partitioned into healthcare workers (HCW; n=905), other essential workers (OEW; n=810), and the general population (GNP; n=3443). Across all groups, top COVID-19 related concerns were primarily associated with the health and well-being of loved ones. In terms of current levels of depression, anxiety, stress and quality of life, HCWs fared the best, and OEWs fared the worst (with the GNP falling in between). In the face of this medical crisis, Australian HCWs seem to be managing their mental health relatively well, but more supports need to be devoted to OEWs to safeguard their mental well-being.We studied whether post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to sexual abuse is related to pain indices among methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) patients. Pain threshold was determined, and suprathreshold pain levels were rated among 18 patients with PTSD and sexual abuse, and 38 patients without PTSD (20 with and 18 without sexual abuse). Patients with PTSD had higher proportion of chronic pain and high-perceived stress, and lower pain threshold, with similar supra-threshold ratings. Patients with benzodiazepine in urine had higher pain thresholds and they rated supra-threshold stimuli lower. However, the analgesic effect was not observed among PTSD patients.The primary objective of this study was to investigate the discrepancies among the perception of behavioral problems self-reported by adolescent patients with restrictive eating disorders (REDs) and rated by their mothers and fathers. Forty-eight female adolescents with RED filled in the Youth Self-Report, their mothers and fathers separately completed the Child Behavior Check List. Patients reported lower scores for somatic complaints, thought problems, and rule-breaking behaviors compared to their mothers and fathers. These findings may inform clinical consultation and treatment.The aim of this longitudinal study was to examine the effect of COVID-19 quarantines on morbid exercise, eating, and body image behaviours pre vs post COVID-19 lockdown. Participants (n=319; mean age 36.77 SD=11.75; 84% female) were recruited to complete a battery of questions with 14 month follow-up. Exercise addiction scores were significantly lower post-lockdown; eating disorder symptomology scores were significantly higher post-COVID-19 lockdown; and leisure-time exercise significantly increased post-COVID-19 lockdown. No differences in body dysmorphic disorder were found. If future lockdowns are enforced, practitioners working with people with suspected morbid eating habits should monitor this closely.
Deficits in neurocognition and social cognition play a critical role in the functional impairment of patients with schizophrenia. Increased oxidative stress has been evidenced in schizophrenia. Increased oxidative stress can affect neuronal function and lead to impairments in neurocognitive functions (especially working memory) and social cognition.

To investigate deficits in neurocognition and social cognition and their potential association with oxidative stress biomarkers in schizophrenia.

Eight-five clinically stable patients with schizophrenia and 75 controls were enrolled in this study. Neurocognition was evaluated through the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS). Social cognition was assessed through the Hinting Task - a test of theory of mind - and an emotion processing test, Facial Emotion Recognition Test (FERT-100). Oxidative stress was assessed by measuring serum levels of glutathione (GSH) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS).

Patients had decreased serum levels of GSH (Z=3.56; p<0.001) and increased TBARS (Z=5.51; P<0.001) when compared with controls. TBARS levels are higher in patients using first generation antipsychotics. Higher serum levels of TBARS in patients were associated with poor performance in working memory test (r=-0.39; p=0.002), even when controlling for age and negative symptoms (Standard Beta -0.36; CI= -2.52 a -13.71).

In Greece, the issue of marine plastic pollution has been highlighted by scientists. Public consultation processes about the implementation of the Directive into the national law have been also carried out. However, the results of our study showed that participants were not informed about the issue of marine plastic pollution nor the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive. Thereby, it is recommended that more initiatives should support the publicity of the Directive so that the Greek public would be able to participating in the decision-making process and support its implementation.
