1% accuracy;
= .015). All significant effects were reproduced using only the contralesional right hemisphere; the left hemisphere revealed significant effects for participant and task, but not time point. Resting state data could also be used to classify task-based data according to subject (66.0%;
< .0001). While the strongest posttherapy changes occurred among regions outside putative language networks, connections with traditional language-associated regions were significantly more positively correlated with behavioral outcome measures, and other regions had more negative correlations and intrahemispheric connections.
Findings suggest the profound importance of considering interindividual variability when interpreting mechanisms of recovery in studies of functional connectivity in stroke.

Individuals with resistance to thyroid hormone beta (RTHβ) who harbor mutations in the THRB gene experience loss-of-function of thyroid hormone receptor beta (TRβ), which is the predominant TR isoform expressed in the liver. We hypothesized that individuals with RTHβ may have increased hepatic steatosis. Methods Controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) was assessed in individuals harboring the R243Q mutation of the THRB gene (n = 21) and in their wild-type (WT) first-degree relatives (n = 22) using the ultrasound-based transient elastography (TE) device (FibroScan). All participants belonged to the same family, lived on the same small island, and were therefore exposed to similar environmental conditions. CAP measurements and blood samples were obtained after an overnight fast. The observers were blinded to the status of the patients. Results The hepatic fat content was increased in RTHβ individuals compared with thed for the treatment of lipid-associated hepatic disorders, particularly nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.Frailty is associated with an increased probability of serious adverse health outcomes in the geriatric general population. People living with HIV have a higher prevalence of frailty. However, the magnitude of this problem in younger patients in South America is unknown. We aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with frailty. This is a cross-sectional study from the Brazilian cohort HIV-AIDS (CoBRA) developed between March and November of 2018, on patients ≥18 years of age. Frailty phenotype was assessed by original Fried criteria. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while identification of factors related to frailty was assessed by using multivariate logistic regression. We enrolled 231 patients; all, but 2 were on antiretroviral therapy (ART). selleck compound Median age was 45.6 interquartile range (36.7-52.1) years, 136 (58.9%) were male, and 86.7% self-identified as non-white. Mean CD4 count was 660 (±345) cells/mm3 and 83.5% had undetectable HIV plasma viral load ( less then 50 copies/mL). Prevalence of frailty and prefrailty was 10.4% and 52.4%, respectively. A CD4 count less then 200 cells/mm3, depression, low income, and use of third-line ART were variables significantly associated with a greater risk to present frail or prefrail status. Frailty prevalence increases with age and is an important health problem to health care in HIV aging patients. It requires proper strategies to its early detection, prevention, and management.Poor sleep in persons with Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common stressor for family caregivers. Retrospective reports support associations between sleep disturbance in persons with AD and worse caregiver mood; however, prospective associations between sleep in persons with AD and caregiver outcomes have not been studied. The current study determined associations between affect and sleep of persons with AD and their caregivers using daily diary data. Multilevel mediation models indicated that sleep in persons with AD is linked to caregiver affect; furthermore, these associations are mediated by sleep characteristics in caregivers and affect in persons with AD. Daily fluctuations in sleep behaviors in persons with AD-rather than average values-were most strongly associated with caregiver outcomes. Interventions to improve sleep in persons with AD may decrease their negative affect and improve caregiver mood.Acculturation and racial discrimination have been independently associated with physical function limitations in immigrant and United States (U.S.)-born populations. This study examined the relationships among acculturation, racial discrimination, and physical function limitations in N = 165 African immigrant older adults using multiple linear regression. The mean age was 62 years (SD = 8 years), and 61% were female. Older adults who resided in the United States for 10 years or more had more physical function limitations compared with those who resided here for less than 10 years (b = -2.62, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [-5.01, -0.23]). Compared to lower discrimination, those with high discrimination had more physical function limitations (b = -2.51, 95% CI = [-4.91, -0.17]), but this was no longer significant after controlling for length of residence and acculturation strategy. Residing in the United States for more than 10 years is associated with poorer physical function. Longitudinal studies with large, diverse samples of African immigrants are needed to confirm these associations.
