Findings were consistent with the literature on Gen Z learners and revealed that their satisfaction improves when they can make decisions, work at their own pace, and receive direction, feedback, and support. The effect of hospital environment on the clinical learning environment should be investigated further; other variables that predict satisfaction remain to be identified.Along their professional career, nurses can find patients who require palliative care (PC). It is necessary to have at least a basic education in this area, that should be acquired during their university education. The objective of this descriptive online-survey set in five nursing Colleges was to analyze Spanish nursing students' knowledge in PC, offering an image of the status of education in PC. 619 students took an online questionnaire with the Spanish version of the Palliative Care Quiz for Nurses (PCQN-SV), which also collected information about their education in the field of PC. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed, and a predictive binary logistic regression model was developed. Students obtained an average 45.65% of right answers in PCQN-SV, with differences related to the college and academic year in which they were enrolled and to their education in PC. In the regression model having theoretical education in PC (OR = 1.70) and academic year (OR = 1.35) showed to be both predictors of getting a result in PCQN-SV over 45% of correct answers. This study showed that Spanish nursing students have a medium-low level of knowledge in PC, and it also supports the need to develop a common framework for nurses' education in PC.
This study determined the effects of self-adhesive resin coatings on viscoelastic properties of highly viscous glass ionomer cements (HVGICs) using dynamic mechanical analysis.
The HVGICs evaluated were Zirconomer [ZR] (Shofu), Equia Forte [EQ] (GC) and Riva [RV] (SDI). Sixty specimens (12mm x 2mm x 2mm) of each material were fabricated using customized Teflon molds. After initial set, the specimens were removed from their molds, finished, measured and randomly divided into 3 groups of 20. Half the specimens in each group were left uncoated while the remaining half was covered with the respective manufacturers' resin coating. The specimens were subsequently conditioned in distilled water, artificial saliva or citric acid at 37°C for 7 days. The uncoated and coated specimens (n=10) were then subjected to dynamic mechanical testing in flexure mode at 37°C with a frequency of 0.1 to 10Hz. Storage modulus, loss modulus and loss tangent data were subjected to normality testing and statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA/Scheffe's post-hoc test and Ttest at significance level p<0.05.
Mean storage modulus ranged from 1.39 ± 0.36 to 10.80 ± 0.86 GPa while mean loss modulus varied from 0.13 ± 0.03 to 0.70 ± 0.14 GPa after conditioning in the different mediums. Values for loss tangent ranged from 39.4 ± 7.75 to 213.2 ± 20.11 (x10 -3 ). Significant differences in visco-elastic properties were observed between mediums and materials. When conditioned in distilled water and artificial saliva, storage modulus was significantly improved when ZR, EQ and RV were uncoated. Significantly higher values were, however, observed with resin coating when the materials were exposed to citric acid.
The visco-elastic properties of HVGICs were influenced by both resin coating and chemical environment.
The visco-elastic properties of HVGICs were influenced by both resin coating and chemical environment. While increase in resting energy expenditure (REE) of COPD patients is generally accepted, there is a lack of information about nutritional substrates oxidation (NSO) in this specific population. The aim of this study was comparison of REE and NSO from indirect calorimetry between COPD patients and control subjects and to evaluate possible associations with the disease stage and prediction indexes. In this observational study, 50 consecutive outpatients with stable COPD (COPD group) were examined and compared with 25 volunteers without respiratory problems (control group). Body composition, REE and NSO were determined in all study participants. All COPD subjects underwent a comprehensive examination to determine COPD severity and prognostic scales. Measured REE values adjusted for body weight, fat-free mass (FFM), and body surface were approximately 10% higher in COPD patients than in the control group. Respiratory quotient (RQ) and non-protein RQ (nRQ) values were respectively 5% and 10% higher in the COPD group. selleck products Adjusted carbohydrate oxidation was almost two times higher in comparison with the control group. We found no differences in absolute values of lipid and protein oxidation between the groups. Correlation analysis proved a positive association of relatively expressed REE and oxidation of lipids, and a negative association of RQ, nRQ and oxidation of carbohydrates with the value of prediction indexes. In conclusion, our study demonstrated metabolic changes in COPD patients leading to increased values of REE and changes in NSO which were associated with the disease stage, and which can be applied for nutritional support in clinical practice.
To determine the relationship between psychosocial caregiver disorders and childhood asthma.
We performed a matched case-control study with asthmatic children (6-14 years of age) from two different clinics in Zaragoza, Spain, between 2010 - 2016. Clinical data were collected from medical records and psychosocial disorders were assessed by interviewing the caregiver using validated questionnaires (Goldberg, CES-D, SF-12, PSS and SPIN). General analysis of cases and controls was performed using McNemar, Chi
and Wilcoxon nonparametric tests. A logistic regression model to predict more severe asthma, adjusted by caregiver psychosocial disorders was performed.
208 children were evaluated (104 cases). Mean age was 9.7 ± 2.4 years, with a male predominance (62.5%). Anxiety, social phobia, depression, acute and chronic psychological disorders, and poor quality of life related to mental health were significantly more prevalent in caregivers of asthmatic children (p<0.05). On multivariate analysis, all of the above disorders significantly increased the risk of uncontrolled asthma, where anxiety, acute psychological disorders, and chronic psychological disorders were the most significant (OR 8.
