To describe the major congenital anomalies present in children with postneonatally acquired cerebral palsy (CP), and to compare clinical outcomes and cause of postneonatally acquired CP between children with and without anomalies.
Data were linked between total population CP and congenital anomaly registers in five European and three Australian regions for children born 1991 to 2009 (n=468 children with postneonatally acquired CP; 255 males, 213 females). Data were pooled and children classified into mutually exclusive categories based on type of congenital anomaly. The proportion of children with congenital anomalies was calculated. Clinical outcomes and cause of postneonatally acquired CP were compared between children with and without anomalies.
Major congenital anomalies were reported in 25.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 21.7-29.9) of children with postneonatally acquired CP. The Headache Impact Test-6™ is a widely recommended questionnaire to evaluate the impact of headaches. However, its measurement properties were never evaluated in both primary and secondary headaches, and the Brazilian Portuguese version of the questionnaire was never assessed at all.
To assess the reliability, and structural and construct validity of the Headache Impact Test-Brazil™ in patients with primary and secondary headaches.
In total, 132 patients with primary and secondary headaches were included, screened from a headache tertiary clinic. They completed the Headache Impact Test-Brazil™ questionnaire, the 12-Item Short-Form Survey (SF-12), and the Headache Disability Inventory-Brazil. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed among the three questionnaires for validity assessment. One to three weeks after the first application, the Headache Impact Test-Brazil™ was answered again by 67 patients for reliability assessment.
The validity sample consisted of 86/132 (65.1%) patients with primary points.
The Headache Impact Test-6-Brazil™ can be considered as a valid and reliable tool to assess the impact of several headache types. Future studies may revise the questionnaire items to confirm its redundancy.

Future studies may revise the questionnaire items to confirm its redundancy.Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that mainly damages the salivary and lacrimal glands. Immune complex (IC) formation triggers local inflammation through IC deposition and decreased antigen function. Some ICs can leak from the lesion and into the saliva, but no salivary ICs have been reported to date. We used immune complexome analysis to comprehensively identify antigens incorporated into IC (IC-antigens) in saliva samples from patients with SS (n = 9) or with xerostomia (n = 7). Neutrophil defensin 1 (67%), small proline-rich protein 2D (67%), myeloperoxidase (44%), neutrophil elastase (44%), cathepsin G (33%), nuclear mitotic apparatus 1 (33%) and phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 3-kinase C2 domain-containing subunit gamma (33%) were identified as new IC-antigens specifically and frequently detected in the saliva of SS patients. Of these, neutrophil defensin 1, myeloperoxidase, neutrophil elastase and cathepsin G are neutrophil intracellular proteins, which suggests that repeated destruction of neutrophils due to abnormal autoimmunity may be involved in the pathogenesis of SS. We also analyzed serum samples from three SS patients. There was little overlap of IC-antigens between two of the samples (fewer than 30% of the IC-antigens in the saliva samples), suggesting that many ICs are formed locally and independently of the circulation. In addition, we found that four SS-specific salivary antigens show sequence homology with several proteins of oral microbiomes but no antigen has homology with Epstein-Barr virus proteins. The homology between some IC-antigens and oral microbiome proteins may indicate the impact of oral infection on local autoimmunity through molecular mimicry theory.
The greatest hurdle to commercial marketing of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables is limited shelf life due to microbial hazards and quality deterioration. Atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) is an emerging non-thermal technology with significant potential to improve the safety and storability of fresh products. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of ACP, generated in sealed packaging, on the qualitative, metabolic and microbial stability of fresh-cut pears during simulated cold storage.
ACP treatments were effective in inhibiting the growth of mesophilic aerobic bacteria, yeast and mold, particularly CP3 (65 kV, 1 min), which could prolong shelf life to the greatest extent. While decontamination was not always associated with an increase in plasma intensity. Moreover, at 65 kV for 1 min, ACP treatment had the potential to retard respiration, and maintain organoleptic properties and other quality attributes. Additionally, peroxidase and pectin methylesterase (PME) activities were reduced immediately after treatments. These effects were dependent on treatment voltage and time, while a subsequent recovery in activity was only observed for PME.
The results obtained from this study will contribute to an understanding of the effects of in-package ACP treatments on the storability and microbial safety of fresh-cut pears.
