In this study, the rates of antipsychotic polypharmacy, factors affecting combined drug use, the relationship between antipsychotic polypharmacy as it relates to duration of hospitalization and re-hospitalization, and treatment compliance were evaluated in schizophrenia patients. The study data was obtained between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017 by examining the files of all patients who were hospitalized in Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital, Ankara Gulhane Training and Research Hospital psychiatric services. The inpatients' drug prescriptions at discharge and after one-year outpatient follow-up, as well as treatment compliance and re-hospitalization, were examined. The mean duration of illness was 109.3 ± 109.7 months, and the mean duration of hospitalization was 24.6 ± 19.1 days. For a total of 599 patients, multiple antipsychotic medication was used in 21.2% of hospitalizations. 11.2% of patients using single antipsychotic and 14.2% of patients using multiple antipsychotics were re-hospitalized within one year (X 2 0.830, p0.362). Disease duration (Z-3.654, p less then 0.001) and duration of hospitalization (Z-3.333, p less then 0.001) were found to be longer in multiple antipsychotic users. learn more 37.8% of the patients used a depot antipsychotic. There was no significant difference between depot antipsychotic use and oral antipsychotic use as it related re-hospitalization rates. As a conclusion, multiple antipsychotic use has reduced in Turkey. Contrary to popular belief, the use of multiple antipsychotics does not shorten, but rather may prolongs hospitalization, and it has no effect in reducing re-hospitalization. Drug combinations are generally used together with a depot treatment, clozapine treatment is preferred less frequently in combinations, clinicians have proven effectiveness of the drug combination they prefer, and they should give priority to the treatments recommended in treatment guidelines. The COVID-19 pandemic is a major health crisis affecting several nations, with over 720,000 cases and 33,000 confirmed deaths reported to date. Such widespread outbreaks are associated with adverse mental health consequences. Keeping this in mind, existing literature on the COVID-19 outbreak pertinent to mental health was retrieved via a literature search of the PubMed database. Published articles were classified according to their overall themes and summarized. Preliminary evidence suggests that symptoms of anxiety and depression (16-28%) and self-reported stress (8%) are common psychological reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic, and may be associated with disturbed sleep. A number of individual and structural variables moderate this risk. In planning services for such populations, both the needs of the concerned people and the necessary preventive guidelines must be taken into account. The available literature has emerged from only a few of the affected countries, and may not reflect the experience of persons living in other parts of the world. In conclusion, subsyndromal mental health problems are a common response to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a need for more representative research from other affected countries, particularly in vulnerable populations. BACKGROUND Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder affecting more than 50 million people worldwide, of whom 80% live in low- and middle-income countries. Due to the limited availability of antiseizure drugs (ASDs) in these countries, medicinal plants are the first-line treatment for most epilepsy patients. In Cameroon, a decoction of Cyperus articulatus L. rhizomes is traditionally used to treat epilepsy. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to identify and isolate the active compounds responsible for the antiseizure activity of C. articulatus in order to confirm both its traditional medicinal usage and previous in vivo studies on extracts of this plant in mouse epilepsy models. METHODS The dried rhizomes of C. articulatus were extracted with solvents of increasing polaritie (hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and water). A traditional decoction and an essential oil were also prepared. These extracts were evaluated for antiseizure activity using a larval zebrafish seizure model with seizures induced by the GAntified by GC in the hexane extract, the essential oil and the simulated traditional decoction. In addition, the constituents of the hexane extract including compounds 1 and 2 were found to cross the gastrointestinal barrier and the major compound 2 crossed the blood-brain barrier as well. CONCLUSION These results highlight the antiseizure activity of various sesquiterpene compounds from a hexane extract of C. articulatus dried rhizomes and support its use as a traditional treatment for epilepsy. The aim of the present trial was to evaluate the effects of dietary sea buckthorn pomace (SBP) supplementation on muscle mass, meat nutritional value and quality of lambs. The results showed that dietary 16% SBP supplementation increased muscle mass and altered muscle fiber size distribution. Both nutritional compositions, including crude protein, moisture and ash, and lamb meat quality, including pH, color and cooking loss were not affected by SBP supplementation. Importantly, crude fat content was elevated, and shear force was decreased in Longissimus thoracis (LT) when lambs were fed the SBP containing diet. Moreover, the total antioxidative capacity in LT and the HDL content in serum were elevated in SBP feed lambs. Dietary SBP supplementation increased the Akt/mTOR signaling activity, and downregulated myostatin expression. Taken together, these data suggested that SBP could be used as a feed ingredient for lamb meat production by increasing muscle mass and improving tenderness, water holding capacity and antioxidative capacity of resulting meat. This study was performed to reveal mitochondria changes and metabolome differences between bovine longissimus lumborum (LL) and psoas major (PM) muscles within the first 24 h postmortem. PM showed significant lower (P less then .05) pH than LL at 6 h and 12 h postmortem. LL had significant higher (P less then .05) mitochondrial membrane potential and lower mitochondrial reactive oxygen species levels than PM at 24 h postmortem. For metabolome, distinctive separation between LL and PM could be seen from principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis. Carnosine, L-histidine and adenosine diphosphate were found with higher abundances in LL. Whereas higher abundances of inosine and hypoxanthine were detected in PM, which indicated distinct purine metabolism rate between muscle types. Higher abundances of glycerophospholipids in PM may increase risk of oxidation damage, and subsequently result in inferior meat quality during extended retail display. The results of this study provided an idea for further research regarding the muscle-specific mitochondrial ROS on meat quality.
