More than a quarter of global neonatal deaths are reported from India, and a large proportion of these deaths are preventable. However, in the absence of robust public health care systems in several states in India, informal health care providers (IHCPs) with no formal medical education are the first contact service providers. read more The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of IHCPs in basic evidence-based practices in neonatal care in Ujjain district and investigated factors associated with differences in levels of knowledge.

A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a questionnaire with multiple-choice questions covering the basic elements of neonatal care. The total score of the IHCPs was calculated. Multivariate quantile regression model was used to look for association of IHCPs knowledge score with the practitioners' age, years of experience, number of patients treated per day, and whether they attended children in their practice.

Of the 945 IHCPs approached, 830 (88%) participated in the studdes the evidence that some IHCPs do possess knowledge in basic evidence-based practices in neonatal care, which could be built upon by future educational interventions. Targeting IHCPs can be an innovative way to reach a large rural population in the study setting and to improve neonatal care services.
The present study highlighted that know-do gap exists in evidence-based practices for all key areas of neonatal care tested among the IHCPs. The study provides the evidence that some IHCPs do possess knowledge in basic evidence-based practices in neonatal care, which could be built upon by future educational interventions. Targeting IHCPs can be an innovative way to reach a large rural population in the study setting and to improve neonatal care services.
The opioid epidemic has enabled rapid and unsurpassed use of big data on people with opioid use disorder to design initiatives to battle the public health crisis, generally without adequate input from impacted communities. Efforts informed by big data are saving lives, yielding significant benefits. Uses of big data may also undermine public trust in government and cause other unintended harms.

We aimed to identify concerns and recommendations regarding how to use big data on opioid use in ethical ways.

We conducted focus groups and interviews in 2019 with 39 big data stakeholders (gatekeepers, researchers, patient advocates) who had interest in or knowledge of the Public Health Data Warehouse maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Concerns regarding big data on opioid use are rooted in potential privacy infringements due to linkage of previously distinct data systems, increased profiling and surveillance capabilities, limitless lifespan, and lack of explicit informed consent. Alnes on how to conduct ethical big data governance and in ways that protect and respect patients and society, ensure justice, and foster patient and public trust in public institutions.
Using big data to address the opioid epidemic poses ethical concerns which, if unaddressed, may undermine its benefits. Findings can inform guidelines on how to conduct ethical big data governance and in ways that protect and respect patients and society, ensure justice, and foster patient and public trust in public institutions.
Advancements in transcriptomic profiling have led to the emergence of new challenges regarding data integration and interpretability. Variability between measurement platforms makes it difficult to compare between cohorts, and large numbers of gene features have encouraged the use black box methods that are not easily translated into biologically and clinically meaningful findings. We propose that gene rankings and algorithms that rely on relative expression within gene pairs can address such obstacles.

We implemented an innovative process to evaluate the performance of five feature selection methods on simulated gene-pair data. Along with TSP, we consider other methods that retain more information in their score calculations, including the magnitude of gene expression change as well as within-class variation. Tree-based rule extraction was also applied to serum microRNA (miRNA) pairs in order to devise a noninvasive screening tool for pancreatic and ovarian cancer.

Gene pair data were simulated using dature selection methods that preserve maximal information. Gene pairs enable dataset integration for greater statistical power and discovery of robust biomarkers as well as facilitate construction of user-friendly clinical screening tools.
Rank-based gene pair classification benefits from careful feature selection methods that preserve maximal information. Gene pairs enable dataset integration for greater statistical power and discovery of robust biomarkers as well as facilitate construction of user-friendly clinical screening tools.
High burnout has been reported in physician populations. Although the standardized residency training (SRT) in China includes components that might put residents at a higher risk for burnout, the burnout of Chinese medical residents is unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of burnout and the associated risk and protective factors for medical residents in the SRT program in Shanghai, China.

This study was a prospective cross-sectional design. A random sampling strategy was used to recruit 330 resident physicians from four SRT sites in Shanghai, and 318 completed questionnaires were returned. Respondents completed a self-made questionnaire including demographic and work characteristics, four burnout and wellness-specific surveys. Bivariate analyses and hierarchical multiple regression models were used to analyze factors associated with three sub-scales of burn out separately.

The overall burnout rate was 71.4%. Low level rate of personal accomplishment (PA) was extremely high at 69.5%. Nighing.
There was a high burnout rate among SRT residents in Shanghai. Occupational stress and several work-related factors were significant and strong risk factors for burnout, while empathy and social support were mild protective factors. Decreased work-related demands and increased access to resources could assist residents in reducing their work stress and improving their well-being.
