Moreover, TnBP significantly decreased the diversity of gut microbiota and changed their structure and function involved in hosts' health and nutrients supply. Overall, this study provides insight into the molecular mechanism of intestinal toxicity by which earthworms respond to TnBP exposure and offer important information for risk assessment of organophosphate esters on soil ecosystems. In this paper, the widely used energetic material RDX had been modified with 2D high nitrogen polymer (TAGP). Various hybrid RDX crystals (qy-RDX) with higher detonation velocity and better thermostability had been obtained as a result of strong intermolecular interactions between TAGP and RDX molecules. The performance of the qy-RDX had been characterized to clarify the inherent mechanisms. It shows that the⊿Hf of qy-RDX could be largely changed in the range of 23.4 kJ kg-1 to 1343.6 kJ kg-1, whereas the density varies only from 1.81 g cm-3 to 1.86 g cm-3. The resulted detonation velocities are in the range of 8725.5 m·s-1 to 9251.8 m·s-1, depending on the content and state of the TAGP dopant. The sensitivity of the resulted qy-RDX is much better than pristine RDX due to improved crystal quality as well as higher concentration of hydrogen bonds. The impact energy is improved from 8.5 J (RDX) to 22 J (qy-RDX-1), whereas the friction sensitivity improves form 130 N to over 360 N for the same case. The Ea for thermal decomposition of qy-RDX-1has reduced from 147.8 kJ mol-1 (RDX) to (124.5 kJ mol-1), since TAGP dopant could be considered as active catalytic sites after melting of RDX.Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) can be activated by various catalysts to degrade organic contaminants in wastewater treatment processes. selleckchem In this research, the co-activation of PMS by sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and carbonate is investigated. The results show that SMX can be degraded in situ, and the main reactive oxygen species are singlet oxygen and carbonate radicals. Only singlet oxygen is detected when SMX is degraded by PMS without carbonate. However, both carbonate radicals and hydroxyl radicals are measured in the presence of carbonate. Among which, hydroxyl radicals are identified by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy method, and carbonate radicals are confirmed by radical quenching experiments, as well as the variation of SMX degradation kinetic and the appreance of carbonyldioxy derivatives by-products in the presence of carbonate anions. Based on this phenomenon, it is proposed that carbonate can enhance the decomposition of PMS and the generation of secondary free radicals (carbonate radicals). Thus carbonate radicals can enhance the oxidizability for sulfonamide antibiotics in the PMS-based advanced oxidation systems. These results suggest that the addition of carbonate is an important enhancement method for the treatment of sulfonamide antibiotics in water. The toxicity of low-level arsenic (As)-contaminated soil is not well understood. An integrated proteomic and metabolomic approach combined with morphological examination was used to investigate the potential biological toxicity of As-contaminated soil based on an exposure experiment with the earthworm Eisenia fetida. The results showed that the earthworm hindgut accumulated high As concentrations resulting in injury to the intestinal epithelia, chloragogenous tissues and coelom tissues. Furthermore, As-contaminated soil induced a significant increase in betaine levels and a decrease in dimethylglycine and myo-inositol levels in the earthworms, suggesting that the osmoregulatory metabolism of the earthworms may have been disturbed. The significantly altered levels of asparagine and dimethylglycine were proposed as potential biomarkers of As-contaminated soil. The upregulation of soluble calcium-binding proteins and profilin, the downregulation of sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase, and the proteins changes identified by gene ontology enrichment analysis confirmed that the earthworms suffered from osmotic stress. In addition, the significant changes in glycine-tRNA ligase activity and coelomic tissue injury revealed that As accumulation may disturb the earthworm immune system. This work provided new insight into the proteomic and metabolic toxicity of low-level As-contaminated soil ecosystems in earthworms, extended our knowledge of dual omics and highlighted the mechanisms underlying toxicity. To increase the capacity of identifying coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection, many Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) labs have been established in a short period of time for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) nucleic acid tests all over the world. However, their biosafety has not been evaluated, which could have been the first gateway to SARS-CoV-2 transmission. During 9-11 March 2020, the first comprehensive evaluation of the biosafety in all 89 labs qualified for conducting SARS-CoV-2 tests in Sichuan Province of China was conducted. The degree of compliance with 39 criteria in five categories was evaluated biosafety requirements for lab activities (14 criteria), sample transfer, acceptance and management (6 criteria), waste management (9 criteria), personnel training and protection (4 criteria), and lab environmental disinfection, emergency plans and accident handling (6 criteria). Our results revealed that, although an overall median compliance rate of 94.6% for 39 criteria, onllinked to the national intelligent syndromic surveillance system (NISSS), for better improving the safety of the labs at the greatest need and facilitating more comprehensive surveillance of risk for disease outbreak.
In quantitative chemical risk assessment, a reference value is an estimate of an exposure to a chemical that is "likely to be without appreciable risk." Because current "deterministic" approaches do not quantitatively characterize the likelihood or severity of harm, the National Academies has recommended using reference values derived from a risk-specific dose that are treated as random variables, with probability distributions characterizing uncertainty and variability.

In order to build familiarity and address issues needed for routine and standardized derivation of probabilistic risk-specific dose distributions, a case example applying the unified probabilistic framework presented in Chiu and Slob (2015) is developed for acrolein. This case study is based on an updated systematic evidence map of literature (Keshava et al., 2020) identifying nasal lesions reported in Dorman et al. (2008) as the most appropriate endpoint and study for reference value derivation.

The probability distribution was calculated for the risk-specific dose, which in this implementation of the approach was calculated for the dose at which 1% of the human population is estimated to experience minimal lesions, and a probabilistic reference value was computed as the 5th percentile of this distribution.
