To evaluate and compare visual and refractive outcomes after implantation of the intracorneal continuous ring 360° arc (ICCR) versus the intracorneal ring segment 340° arc (ICRS) using femtosecond laser for central keratoconus.

Randomized study that included 40 eyes of 32 patients diagnosed with central keratoconus between November 2014 and March 2015. Twenty eyes had an implantation of ICCR (MyoRing, Dioptex GmbH, Austria) through an intrastromal pocket and 20 eyes had an implantation of ICRS (Keraring, Mediphacos, Brazil) through an intrastromal tunnel. Both procedures were performed with a femtosecond laser (LDV Z6 model, Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG). Visual acuity (VA), refraction, and Scheimpflug imaging analysis were performed pre- and postoperatively at 1 month and 1 year. Comparisons of means were performed using the Student's
-test.
At 1 year, uncorrected VA improved 0.77 LogMAR (
< 0.001) in the ICCR group and 0.79 LogMAR (
= 0.01) in the ICRS group; mean sphere improvement was 5.13 Diopters (D) in the ICCR group and 6.27 D in the ICRS group (
< 0.001 both); mean Steeper Keratometry improvement was 4.24 D in the ICCR group and 5.53 D in the ICRS group (
< 0.001 both). In the ICCR group, mean decrease in the pachymetry at the thinnest point of the cornea was 32.16 µm (
= 0.01), and in the ICRS group, mean increase was 4.2 µm at 1 year (
= 0.61).

The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the materials used for 3D cell cultures, which are mainly alginate-gelatin hydrogels, including their properties and potential applications.Microtubules composed of α/β tubulin heterodimers are an essential part of the cytoskeleton of eukaryotic cells and are widely regarded as targets for cancer chemotherapy. IC261, which is discovered as an ATP-competitive inhibitor of serine/threonine-specific casein kinase 1 (CK1), has shown its inhibitory activity on microtubule polymerization in recent studies. However, the structural information of the interaction between tubulin and IC261 is still unclear. Here, we provided a high-resolution (2.85 Å) crystal structure of tubulin and IC261 complex, revealed the intermolecular interaction between tubulin and IC261, and analyzed the structure-activity relationship (SAR). Subsequently, the structure of tubulin-IC261 complex was compared with tubulin-colchicine complex to further elucidate the novelty of IC261. Furthermore, eight optimal candidate compounds of new IC261-based microtubule inhibitors were obtained through molecular docking studies. In conclusion, the co-crystal structure of tubulin-IC261 complex paves a way for the design and development of microtubule inhibitor drugs.The fouling of indirect shell and coil heat exchanger by heavy whipping cream (HWC) and non-fat dry milk (NFDM) was studied at aseptic Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) processing conditions (140 °C) using a novel non-intrusive sensor. The sensor emitted a heat pulse intermittently throughout the duration of the process causing an incremental increase in temperature at the tube external surface. The temperature response of the sensor varied due to the radial growth of the fouling layer formed by certain components of the products. Each heating pulse and the temperature response was studied to estimate the thermal conductivity of the fouling layer using inverse problems and parameter estimation. The changes in thermal conductivity were used as an indication of the fouling layer development during food processing at UHT temperatures. The estimated parameters from experimental results showed a decreasing trend in the thermal conductivity of HWC and NFDM from 0.35 to 0.10 and 0.63 to 0.37, respectively. An image analysis tool was developed and used to measure the fouling layer thickness at the end of each trial. The measured thickness was found to be 0.58 ± 0.15 for HWC and 0.56 ± 0.07 mm for NFDM. The fouling layer resistance for HWC and NFDM was 5.95 × 10-3 ± 1.53 × 10-3 and 1.53 × 10-3 ± 2.0 × 10-4 (m2K)/W, respectively.During breast cancer treatment, worsening quality of life (QoL) and the presence of toxicities are common, but healthy eating practices are associated with better clinical results. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the effect of a nutritional intervention on QoL and on gastrointestinal and hematological toxicities resulting from chemotherapy in women with breast cancer. A randomized clinical trial was performed at the beginning of neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment for women with breast cancer. All participants received nutritional advice on healthy eating practices, but only the intervention group (IG) received an individualized diet plan. During the study, the CG significantly presented a reduction (from 21.6 ± 5.9 kg to 18.8 ± 4.0 kg, p = 0.009) in handgrip strength (HGS), while the IG did not present changes in this variable. Regarding QoL, the IG preserved the role function during treatment and presented better results for nausea/vomiting and loss of appetite compared to the CG.
