Early life exposures to lead (Pb) and mercury (Hg) were reported to be associated with various adverse health outcomes. However, limited data was available for urinary Pb and Hg levels in young children and the proportion of children at risk by age, as well as inter- and intra-subject variations of urinary Pb and Hg levels. Therefore, we collected total 491 urine samples from 241 children by urine collection at birth and at intervals of 3 months until 27 months of age for each child (at 10 monitoring time points), measured urinary Pb and Hg levels, and then evaluated the proportion of children at risk by age and the intra-class correlation (ICC) of the urinary Pb and Hg levels. Both the urinary Pb and Hg levels were significantly different according to the monitoring time points (p less then 0.0001 for both Pb and Hg). The number of children with Hg level over the Human BioMonitoring (HBM) I (7 μg/L) and II (25 μg/L) in the first urine at birth were 3 (2.2%) and 1 (0.7%), respectively, while the urinary samevels in any other bio-samples such as bloods. Therefore, to explore the Pb and Hg exposures using urine samples warrant further investigation with large sample size considering urinary correction and other bio-samples in the future.
Although the effects of seasonal variations and ambient temperature on the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) have been well documented, it is still unknown whether ambient temperature change is an independent risk factor for TB. The aim of this study was to assess the association between ambient temperature change and the risk of TB admissions.

A distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) combined with Poisson generalized linear regression model was performed to assess the association between ambient temperature change and the risk of TB admissions from 2014 to 2018 in Hefei, China. Two temperature change metrics including temperature change between neighboring days (TCN) and diurnal temperature range (DTR) were used to assess the effects of temperature change exposure. Subgroup analyses were performed by gender, age and season. Besides, the attributable risk was calculated to evaluated the public health significance.

The overall exposure-response curves suggested that there were statistically significant assmay achieve great public health benefits for TB prevention.

This study suggests that ambient temperature change is associated with the risk of TB admissions. Besides, TCN may be a better predictor for the TB prevention and public health.

We monitored (May 2010 to October 2018) THg and MeHg in the waters and in the suspended particulate matter (SPM) of the Madeira River and its tributaries (before and after dam construction) to evaluate changes upstream and downstream from the Santo Antonio Hydroelectric Dam (SAHD). We collected 2826 samples of water and SPM at sampling stations upstream (UPMD-01, UPMD-02 and UPMD-03) and downstream the Madeira River (DWMD-04, DWMD-05 and DWMD-06), and Tributaries upstream (Branco River, Jaci-Parana River, Jatuarana-I Igarapé, Contra River, Caripunas Igarapé, Ceara Igarapé, and Teotonio Igarapé) and downstream (Jatuarana-II Igarapé and Belmont Igarapé) from the SAHD and monitored water and the total load of SPM. SPM was significantly higher in the Madeira River (median 178.63 mg.L-1) than in upstream and downstream tributaries (median 15.30 mg.L-1); however, the THg and MeHg concentrations were significantly higher in the tributaries (median 161.14 ng g-1 and 9.03 ng g-1, respectively) than in the mainstream Madeira River (median = 57.06 ng g-1 and 1.63 ng g-1, respectively). THg concentration in the water was significantly higher in the mainstream Madeira River (median = 6.51 ng.L-1) than in the tributaries (median = 2.57 ng.L-1). However, the percentage of methylation in the tributaries (median = 4.9%) was 4-times higher than in the Madeira River (median 1.3%). The significantly higher MeHg percentages in the tributaries may indicate natural (hydro-bio-geochemical factors) still predominant in this changing landscape of the Western Amazon. So far, the data suggest that this RoR has not yet impacted the THg and MeHg concentrations.Microplastics pollution presents an increasing concern worldwide due to the large amount and potential risks. However, data on microplastics in the freshwater environment are still limited, especially in southwest China. This study investigated the microplastics distribution, characteristics and risks in urban water of different cities in the Tuojiang River basin in southwest China. Microplastics were found in all seven cities of the Tuojiang River basin and the concentrations varied from 911.57 ± 199.73 to 3395.27 ± 707.22 items/m3, among which Ziyang urban water had the highest microplastics concentration. Fiber (34.88-65.85%) was a typical and abundant microplastic type. selleck kinase inhibitor The small size (0.5-1 mm) (27.27-66.67%) was predominant, and white (23.30-54.29%) was the dominant color among all samples. Polypropylene was identified as the main polymer type by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy indicated that the surfaces of the microplastics had many cracks and a multitude of particles were adsorbed onto it. According to correlation analysis, there was a significant positive correlation between gross domestic product(P=0.015 less then 0.05) and gross domestic product of the secondary industries(P=0.014 less then 0.05) of cities in the Tuojiang River basin and microplastics concentrations, demonstrating impacts of the secondary industries on the microplastics pollution. In addition, water bodies with lower oxidation-reduction potential tended to have higher microplastics abundance. In the Tuojiang River basin, microplastics pollution was more serious in location where water quality was poor. The polymer risk index (H) was calculated to assess the environmental risk of microplastics in different cities, and the results showed that Fushun sites had the highest risk in regard to microplastics. This study provides a valuable reference for a better understanding of the microplastics level and source identification in southwest China.
