Calprotectin (CLP) is a promising biomarker for the evaluation of neutrophil-related inflammation. Our aim was to establish reference values for circulating CLP in different sample types and to study the effect of pre-analytical variables.
Reference values were determined in 100 healthy individuals. Pre-analytical variables were evaluated in 10 healthy controls and four rheumatoid arthritis patients with active disease and covered sample type (serum with/without gel separator, heparin, EDTA and citrate plasma), pre-centrifugation time (<2 h, 6h, 24h), storage condition (2-8°C, 18-25°C, 30°C) and storage time (24h, 72h, 7days). CLP measurements were performed with the EliA™Calprotectin 2 assay on Phadia™200 (Thermo Fisher Scientific).
In healthy controls, baseline CLP concentrations in serum were more than double the concentration in EDTA and citrate plasma (0.909µg/mL versus 0.259µg/mL and 0.261µg/mL respectively). Heparin, EDTA and citrate stabilized CLP concentrations for up to 6h before centrifugation, whereas significant increases in CLP levels were observed when serum was left untreated during that time period.

In this review we discuss pro- and antitumor effects of organelle-targeted autophagy and how this contributes to several hallmarks of cancer, such as evading cell death, genomic instability, and altered metabolism. Typically, the removal of damaged or dysfunctional organelles prevents tumor development but can also aid in proliferation or drug resistance in established tumors. By better understanding how organelle-specific autophagy takes place and can be manipulated, it may be possible to go beyond the brute-force approach of trying to manipulate all autophagy in order to improve therapeutic targeting of this process in cancer.Developing oocytes need large supplies of macromolecules and organelles. A conserved strategy for accumulating these products is to pool resources of oocyte-associated germline nurse cells. In Drosophila, these cells grow more than 100-fold to boost their biosynthetic capacity. No previously known mechanism explains how nurse cells coordinate growth collectively. Here, we report a cell cycle-regulating mechanism that depends on bidirectional communication between the oocyte and nurse cells, revealing the oocyte as a critical regulator of germline cyst growth. Transcripts encoding the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, Dacapo, are synthesized by the nurse cells and actively localized to the oocyte. Retrograde movement of the oocyte-synthesized Dacapo protein to the nurse cells generates a network of coupled oscillators that controls the cell cycle of the nurse cells to regulate cyst growth. We propose that bidirectional nurse cell-oocyte communication establishes a growth-sensing feedback mechanism that regulates the quantity of maternal resources loaded into the oocyte.
After diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and related syndromes (ADRS), personalized care adapted to each patient's needs is recommended to provide a care plan and start symptomatic treatments according to guidelines. Over the past decade, dedicated structures and care have been implemented in various settings. Equal access to ADRS care, health care providers and services is crucial to ensure potential health benefits for everyone. However, the extent of use of recommended services and favorable health care utilization trajectories (HUT) may vary according to individual and contextual characteristics. The aim of this article was to (1) describe HUT patterns after multidimensional clustering of similar trajectories, (2) assess the proportion of individuals presenting favorable HUTs, and (3) identify factors associated with favorable HUTs.

To describe the experiences of registered nurses (RNs) who support breastfeeding women and to understand the factors that they believe affect practices that support breastfeeding.
We conducted an online search using five databases Scopus, MEDLINE, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Joanna Briggs Institute of Systematic Reviews.
We included original research articles on the experiences of RNs who support breastfeeding women that were published in 2009 or after and were available in English. After title and abstract review of 785 articles, we included 22 articles for full text review. this website Nine articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in the review.
We used Whittemore and Knafl's five-step framework and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines to guide this integrative review. Three authors reviewed and appraised the articles independently.
We categorized the findings into three themes Workplace Issues, Personal Experiences, and Breastfeeding Knowledge and Education.
