Growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) is a neuropeptide that controls growth hormone (GH) synthesis and release. In this study, the full-length cDNA of Mastacembelus armatus ghrh was obtained by rapid amplification of cDNA ends method. Sequence analysis showed that the cloned sequence is 1090 bp in length, containing an open reading frame (ORF) of 429 bp that encodes a precursor protein of 142 amino acids. Sequence alignment revealed that the 27-amino acid mature peptide of Ghrh in M. armatus is conserved. Real-time PCR showed that ghrh is highly expressed in the brain, with very low or no expression in other tissues. During embryonic and larval development, ghrh expression was low in embryos but increased gradually in the stages of larval development. The biological function of Ghrh peptide was further investigated in vivo. Ghrh injection could significantly upregulate the mRNA expression of growth hormone (gh) and insulin-like growth factor-1/2 (igf-1/2) in M. armatus. Our data indicate that Ghrh is able to activate the GH-IGFs axis in M. armatus.Diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in children for traumatic brain injury, which is known as the most important complication in trauma, require special attention. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in diagnosing skull fracture in children with closed head injury in comparison with computed tomography (CT) scan. The current prospective cross-sectional study was conducted on children (0-14 years old), who were referred to the emergency department of a general teaching hospital in Shiraz, southern Iran (January-March 2018), with close head injury and were suspected of bone fracture. The participants were selected using a convenience sampling. The results of POCUS performed by emergency medicine (EM) residents were compared with the results of CT scan, which was reported by radiologists and considered a gold standard. Then, diagnostic tests were calculated. A total of 168 children were enrolled, with the mean ± standard deviation age of 6.21 ± 3.99. The most affectt of patients with closed head injury.
Most surgeons choose to de-epithelialize when performing a mastopexy to minimize the risk of nipple-areola-complex (NAC) necrosis. Preservation of the dermis and thus the subdermal plexus is thought to be crucial for the survival of the NAC. However, this has never been scientifically proven. Deskinning involves resection of the epidermis and the dermis and is a timesaving alternative to de-epithelialization. In this study, we present data from mastopexy patients with or without implant surgery with total deskinning of the Wise pattern.
From September 2012 to March 2020, a single surgeon performed all inverted-T mastopexies using the deskinning technique. The patients were included retrospectively, and data were collected by reviewing the patients' medical records with emphasis on NAC necrosis.
The cohort consisted of 274 consecutive patients who underwent bilateral mastopexy. Of these, 134 patients underwent mastopexy as the only procedure and 140 patients underwent mastopexy in combination with implanto Authors www.springer.com/00266.White mould or stem rot, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, is a devastating fungal disease found in major potato cultivation areas worldwide. The aim of this study was to characterize genetic diversity in the S. sclerotiorum population from the main potato producing regions of India by means of morphological (mycelial growth, colony colour, number and distribution pattern of sclerotia) and molecular characteristics, as well as to evaluate the virulence of S. sclerotiorum isolates in potato for the first time. Among the S. sclerotiorum population analyzed, high phenotypic and genotypic diversity were observed. Using all the morphological characteristics, a dendrogram was constructed based on Gower's similarity coefficient that distributed all the isolates into three clusters at the 0.62 similarity coefficient. Carpogenic germination of apothecia revealed that larger sclerotia produced a greater number of apothecia while smaller sclerotia produced fewer apothecia. Pathogenicity test results revealed that out of 25 isolates, seven were highly aggressive, 14 were moderate and four had low aggressiveness, whilst isolates from Punjab were more pathogenic than those of Uttar Pradesh. Phylogenetic analysis of universal rice primer polymorphism showed high genetic variability within the isolates that grouped all the isolates in three evolutionary lineages in the resulting dendrogram and showed partial relationship with geographical locations of the isolates. Further, the findings suggest the occurrence of higher heterogeneity and genetic diversity among the S. sclerotiorum isolates that indicates the existence of both clonal and sexual reproduction in the pathogen population of potato producing areas in India.Vicia faba L. is a legume from the family Fabaceae. Ancient Egyptians consumed fava beans thousands of years ago and they are still one of the most popular foods in Egypt. The current study examined the anti-Parkinson effect of 80% methanolic extracts of seeds or sprouts of the fava 'Sakha 3 'cultivar which has been selected based on the total phenol content among three cultivars tested. selleck chemical In addition, the extracts were characterized by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection and quadrupole-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry (RP-HPLC-DAD-QTOF-MS). Three doses (200, 400, and 600 mg/kg) of 80% methanol extracts of seeds or sprouts of the Sakha 3 cultivar were evaluated in rotenone-Parkinsonian mice from behavioral, biochemical, and histopathological aspects. The extract of fava sprouts (600 mg/kg dose) showed the most beneficial effect. It improved motor activity, enhanced striatal dopamine level, and decreased the striatal malondialdehyde, as well as the expression of the inflammatory markers, compared with the rotenone control group and groups receiving lower therapeutic doses of the extracts or L-Dopa. In addition, these findings were supported by a histopathological investigation which indicated that mice treated with the 600-mg/kg dose of the sprout extract showed a low number of degenerated neurons. The application of RP-HPLC-DAD-QTOF-MS and mass/mass spectroscopy enabled the metabolic profiling of the sprouts and seeds of the 'Sakha 3' cultivar. It is obvious that germination increased the amounts of phenolic acids, saponins, and aromatic amino acids, together with a dramatic increase in flavonoids. In conclusion, the 80% methanolic extract of sprouts of the fava "Sakha 3" cultivar may be a promising candidate for treating Parkinsonism if appropriate safety data are available.
