Only one bacterium belonging to the Actinobacteria phylum, the Bifidobacterium bifidum, was present. When considering a Li-intercalated hexagonal boron nitride bilayer (Li-hBN), the vertex corrections of electron-phonon interaction cannot be omitted. This is evidenced by the very high value of the ratio λωD/εF ≈ 0.46, where λ is the electron-phonon coupling constant, ωD is the Debye frequency, and εF represents the Fermi energy. Due to nonadiabatic effects, the phonon-induced superconducting state in Li-hBN is characterized by much lower values of the critical temperature (TLOVCC ∈ 19.1, 15.5, 11.8 K, for μ* ∈ 0.1, 0.14, 0.2, respectively) than would result from calculations not taking this effect into account (TMEC∈ 31.9, 26.9, 21 K). #link# From the technological point of view, the low value of TC limits the possible applications of Li-hBN. The calculations were carried out under the classic Migdal-Eliashberg formalism (ME) and the Eliashberg theory with lowest-order vertex corrections (LOVC). We show that the vertex corrections of higher order (λ3) lower the value of TLOVCC by a few percent.2D materials such as hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) are widely used to decouple organic molecules from metal substrates. Nevertheless, there are also indications in the literature for a significant hybridization, which results in a perturbation of the intrinsic molecular properties. In this work we study the electronic and optical properties as well as the lateral structure of tetraphenyldibenzoperiflanthene (DBP) on Ni(111) with and without an atomically thin h-BN interlayer to investigate its possible decoupling effect. To this end, we use in situ differential reflectance spectroscopy as an established method to distinguish between hybridized and decoupled molecules. By inserting an h-BN interlayer we fabricate a buried interface and show that the DBP molecules are well decoupled from the Ni(111) surface. Furthermore, a highly ordered DBP monolayer is obtained on h-BN/Ni(111) by depositing the molecules at a substrate temperature of 170 °C. The structural results are obtained by quantitative low-energy electron diffraction and low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy. Finally, the investigation of the valence band structure by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy shows that the low work function of h-BN/Ni(111) further decreases after the DBP deposition. For this reason, the h-BN-passivated Ni(111) surface may serve as potential n-type contact for future molecular electronic devices.Rubrene (C42H28) was adsorbed with submonolayer coverage on Pt(111), Au(111), and graphene-covered Pt(111). Adsorption phases and vibronic properties of C42H28 consistently reflect the progressive reduction of the molecule-substrate hybridization. Separate C42H28 clusters are observed on Pt(111) as well as broad molecular resonances. On Au(111) and graphene-covered Pt(111) compact molecular islands with similar unit cells of the superstructure characterize the adsorption phase. The highest occupied molecular orbital of C42H28 on Au(111) exhibits weak vibronic progression while unoccupied molecular resonances appear with a broad line shape. In contrast, vibronic subbands are present for both frontier orbitals of C42H28 on graphene. They are due to different molecular vibrational quanta with distinct Huang-Rhys factors. The sickle cell trait is considered a benign entity that generally does not show clinical manifestations. However, some complications have been described under certain conditions, such as a decrease in oxygen level, dehydration, and strenuous physical efforts. Among them, splenic infarct is a rare complication that presents as left upper abdominal pain in a situation of stress such as high altitude exposure. We present two cases of splenic infarcts in patients with undiagnosed sickle cell trait who showed to our institution with severe abdominal pain after coming from high altitude cities.Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common condition, and if not treated can be a significant risk factor for multiple comorbidities like hypertension (HTN), coronary artery disease (CAD), and congestive heart failure (CHF). The underlying pathophysiology involves coagulation and inflammatory pathways, including an overactive sympathetic nervous system. This ultimately causes hemodynamic changes and subclinical myocardial injuries. We reviewed the published literature about the impact of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) when used as a mode of treatment to reduce the OSA effects on cardiomyocytes. We found that the results were mixed, including both ill and good effects. The cardiac markers like N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) were reduced, implying the decrease in the incidence of heart failure with CPAP treatment in a few of the studies. They also proved a significant decrease in harmful cardiovascular (CV) outcomes, while others concluded that CPAP therapy might be stressful on the heart, causing an elevation in cardiac troponin T levels. However, the impact on inflammatory markers is still indeterminate and needs more research in future.
Two community studies outside the US showed asymptomatic infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in adults, but not in children <10 years of age. In this study, we assessed the prevalence of asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in children and adults in Marion County, Indiana.
Individuals living in Marion County with no symptoms of coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) within seven days of enrollment were eligible for this cross-sectional household study. Study kits were delivered to the participant's residence for self-swabbing, picked up by the study team, and tested by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for SAR-CoV-2 infection.
this website were collected from 119 children and 392 adults ≥18 years of age. One participant (seven years of age) tested positive, for an overall study prevalence of 0.2% (95% CI 0, 0.6%). The participant had no known contact with a person with SARS-CoV-2 infection, and five family members tested negative for infection. The child and family members all tested negative for infection 10 and 20 days after the first test, and none developed symptoms of COVID-19 for 20 days after testing.
