Slingshot spiders are characterized by their ultrafast launch speeds and accelerations (exceeding 1300 [Formula see text]), however a theoretical approach to characterize the underlying spatiotemporal web dynamics remains missing. To address this knowledge gap, we develop a 2D-coupled damped oscillator model of the web. Our model reveals three key insights into the dynamics of slingshot motion. First, the tension line plays a dual role enabling the spider to load elastic energy into the web for a quick launch (in milliseconds) to displacements of 10-15 body lengths, but also enabling the spider to halt quickly, attenuating inertial oscillations. Second, the dominant energy dissipation mechanism is viscous drag by the silk lines - acting as a low Reynolds number parachute. selleck inhibitor Third, the web exhibits underdamped oscillatory dynamics through a finely-tuned balance between the radial line forces, the tension line force and viscous drag dissipation. Subjective complaints of cognitive deficits are not necessarily consistent with objective evidence of cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). Here we examined the factors associated with the objective-subjective cognitive discrepancy.
We consecutively enrolled 90 non-demented patients with PD who completed the Parkinson's Disease Cognitive Functional Rating Scale (subjective cognitive measure) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA; objective cognitive measure). The patients were classified as "Overestimators", "Accurate estimators", and "Underestimators" on the basis of the discrepancy between the objective vs. subjective cognitive measures. To identify the factors distinguishing these groups from each other, we used chi-square tests or one-way analyses of variance, completed by logistic and linear regression analyses.
Forty-nine patients (54.45%) were classified as "Accurate estimators", 29 (32.22%) as "Underestimators", and 12 (13.33%) as "Overestimators". Relative to the other groups,unctioning. Between January 2010 and December 2016, 148 parotid gland surgeries were performed, and 74 patients were included in the study.Bilateral parotid gland volumes were measured by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Parotidectomy Outcome Inventory-8 and aesthetic scale questionnaire were applied to the patients. The volumetric averages obtained were compared with the questions in the SSQOL scale, the aesthetic scale data, and complications.

We studied bacterial communities of the Himalayan onion (Allium wallichii Kunth), a wild relative of onion native to mountains in East Asia. The bacterial community structure was assessed in different plant microhabitats (rhizosphere, endosphere, anthosphere) by sequencing of 16S rRNA gene fragment amplicons.
