The aim of this study was to analyze effects of a transition to open workspaces including Activity Based Working (ABW) on employees' working conditions and their levels of occupational stress, need for recovery and psychological detachment from work. Methods Employees of a large technology company responded to a baseline and two follow-up measurements over one year. Data were collected via online survey assessing the employees' mental demands, workload, job autonomy, support from supervisor, team collaboration, satisfaction with communication climate and three well-being outcomes (occupational stress, need for recovery and psychological detachment from work). Selleck G007-LK Descriptive statistical analyses, analyses of variance and regression analyses were applied to test the hypotheses. Results Significant differences in working conditions were found after the transition, e.g. reduced mental demands, but an increased workload. Job autonomy, team collaboration and satisfaction with communication climate increased. Levels of occupational stress decreased significantly over time. Regression analyses revealed substantial associations between flexible work arrangements, job resources and occupational stress. Conclusion The results contribute to the current knowledge on flexible work arrangements in open work spaces. They can be used to design future work settings aimed at increasing employees' well-being and job performance. Further practical implications and recommendations for future research are discussed. © The Author(s) 2020.Background Trehalose is a functional disaccharide that has anti-metabolic activities such as suppression of adipocyte hypertrophy in mice and alleviation of impaired glucose tolerance in humans. Trehalase hydrolyzes trehalose in the small intestine into two glucose molecules. In this study, we investigated whether trehalose can suppress adipocyte hypertrophy in mice in the presence or absence of trehalase. Methods Trehalase knockout (KO) mice and wild-type (WT) mice were fed a high fat diet (HFD) and administered water with 0.3% (w/v) or without trehalose for 8 weeks. At the end of the experimental period, mesenteric adipose tissues and the small intestine were collected and the adipocyte size and proportion of cytoplasmic lipid droplets (CLDs, %) in jejunum epithelium were measured by image analysis. Results Trehalose treatment was associated with suppressed adipocyte hypertrophy in both trehalase KO and WT mice. The rate of CLDs in the jejunal epithelium was increased in both trehalase KO and WT mice given and WT mice, trehalose treatment increased the rate of CLDs in jejunal epithelium, reduced chylomicron migration from the intestinal epithelium to the periphery, and suppressed adipocyte hypertrophy. Thus, trehalose ingestion could prevent metabolic syndrome by trapping fat droplets in the intestinal epithelium and suppressing rapid increases in chylomicrons. © The Author(s) 2020.Background Genetic and ecological factors influence morphology, and morphology is compatible with function. The morphology and bite performance of skulls of bats show a number of characteristic feeding adaptations. The great evening bat, Ia io (Thomas, 1902), eats both insects and birds (Thabah et al. J Mammal 88 728-735, 2007), and as such, it is considered to represent a case of dietary niche expansion from insects to birds. How the skull morphology or bite force in I. io are related to the expanded diet (that is, birds) remains unknown. We used three-dimensional (3D) geometry of the skulls and measurements of bite force and diets from I. io and 13 other species of sympatric or closely related bat species to investigate the characteristics and the correlation of skull morphology and bite force to diets. Results Significant differences in skull morphology and bite force among species and diets were observed in this study. Similar to the carnivorous bats, bird-eaters (I. io) differed significantly from insecte may help them use larger and hard-bodied birds as a dietary component. © The Author(s) 2020.A key aspect of the article by Lousdal on instrumental variables was a discussion of the monotonicity assumption. However, there was no mention of the history of the development of this assumption. The purpose of this letter is to note that Baker and Lindeman and Imbens and Angrist independently introduced the monotonicity assumption into the analysis of instrumental variables. The letter also places the monotonicity assumption in the context of the method of latent class instrumental variables. © US Government Employees and Contractors 2020.BACKGROUND Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) are the leading causes of acquired diseases in children and young adults in developing countries carrying considerable morbidity and mortality. Rheumatic fever (RF) commonly affects children between 5-15 years old and is rarely seen in less then 5 years old. Mitral stenosis (MS) is the most common sequela, as it bears maximum onslaught. In India, few patients follow an unusually rapid course in developing severe MS because of its fulminant nature following attack of ARF. CASE REPORT Our patient was a 28-month-old girl who had developed severe MS, mitral regurgitation (MR), and pulmonary hypertension (PH) as the sequelae of ARF which she had suffered at the age of 18 months old. CONCLUSION To the best of our knowledge, this is the youngest reported case of rheumatic MS following ARF after extensive search in the literature. This case highlights the fact that very young population is not immune to ARF contrary to prior belief and therefore, more stringent preventive measures need to be implemented for it and possibility of ARF should be kept in mind while evaluating carditis in a child. © 2019 Isfahan Cardiovascular Research Center & Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) on adherence to treatment and self-caring behavior in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS This was an experimental study based on control and experimental groups with pre-test and post-test. 32 male and female patients with CHD having at least high school diploma, referring to Isfahan cardiovascular research institute, Isfahan, Iran, were selected and placed randomly in two groups of control and experimental. Pre-test stage was done for both two groups by 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) and Self-Care of Coronary Heart Disease Inventory (SC-CHDI). The experimental group was placed under the intervention of DBT for 8 sessions of 2 hours (once a week). Afterwards, the post-test was done for both groups. RESULTS It was shown by analyzing results from t-test that adherence to treatment and self-care behavior significantly increased in experimental group comparing to control group [(1.
