Medical proper care and frequency involving undesirable occasions inside vulnerable placement: Features involving routinely aired individuals along with serious SARS-CoV-2 pulmonary disease.
Multi-subunit SMC complexes are required to perform essential functions, such as chromosome compaction, segregation and DNA repair, from bacteria to humans. Prokaryotic SMC proteins form complexes with two non-SMC subunits, ScpA and ScpB, to condense the chromosome. The mutants of both scpa and scpb genes in Bacillus subtilis have been shown to display characteristic phenotypes such as growth defects and increased frequency of anucleate cells. Here, we studied the function of the Smc-ScpAB complex from Mycobacterium smegmatis. We observed no significant growth difference between the scpb null mutant and wild-type M. smegmatis under both standard and stress conditions. Furthermore, we characterized the Smc-ScpAB holocomplex from M. smegmatis. The MsSMC consists of the dimerization hinge and ATPase head domains connected by long coiled-coils. The MsSMC interacts with two non-SMC proteins, ScpA and ScpB, and the resulting holocomplex binds to different DNA substrates independent of ATP. The Smc-ScpAB complex showed DNA-stimulated ATPase activity in the presence of ssDNA. A cytological profiling assay revealed that upon overexpression the Smc-ScpAB ternary complex compacts the decondensed nucleoid of rifampicin-treated wild-type and null mukb mutant of Escherichia coli in vivo. Together, our study suggests that M. smegmatis has a functional Smc-ScpAB complex capable of DNA binding and condensation. Based on our observations, we speculate that the presence of alternative SMCs such as MksB or other SMC homologues might have rescued the scpb mutant phenotype in M. smegmatis.Objective. In different studies, various models have been used for exposure risk assessment of formaldehyde, so this study was conducted to compare existing methods. Method. This cross-sectional analytical study was performed in the pathology section of four hospitals in the west of Iran in 2016. Personal air sampling was performed using National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method 3500. Risk assessment with existing methods and comparison between them was performed with the statistical tests. Results. 71% of participants were exposed to values above the threshold limit value. The carcinogenic risk obtained for the staff of the studied hospitals ranged from 3 × 10-6 to 3.07 × 10-4. The potential dose of exposure to formaldehyde varied from 73.22 to 3216.06 µg · day-1. The hazard quotient value was more than 1 in 71.4% of cases. Conclusion. The results of the existing methods for carcinogenic risk assessment are almost similar. see more In general, the Risk Assessment Information System (RAIS) is recommended because of its simplicity and reduction of error probability, saving time and cost. The results of this study can be used as a guide to select the appropriate risk assessment method for planning, providing appropriate control measures and risk management. This study determines the effects of a liquid cooling vest (LCV) on physiological and perceptual responses while wearing stab-resistant body armor (SRBA). Ten healthy male volunteers wearing SRBA performed human trials with the LCV and without (control) in a hot environment (30 °C and 40% relative humidity). Physiological parameters and perceptual responses were recorded during the tests. The results indicated that the difference in the mean skin temperature and scapula skin temperature between the two conditions was up to 1.2 and 2.5 °C, respectively. The LCV did not significantly decrease the core temperature, heart rate, sweat loss, oxygen consumption, rating of perceived exertion and restriction of movement. However, a significant difference was observed between conditions in terms of evaporation efficiency and thermal sensation. Therefore, the LCV attenuated an increase in thermal sensation but did not mitigate physiological strain. This work can provide fundamental knowledge for high-performance personal cooling system development. For devices worn inside the ear, detailed anthropometric data of the external acoustic meatus (EAM) is needed, yet lacking due to the complex and costly methodology associated with attaining such measurements. The purpose of this study was to provide the anthropometric characteristics of the EAM including variations by age group, sex, and side (right/left). 1400 external ears (700 Chinese subjects) were casted and scanned. A total of 23 EAM dimensions of length, width, angle, circumference and area were measured, most of which changed by age group, sex and side. 19 measurements were larger in males and 17 measurements were larger in left-side ears. Except the entrance length and circumference, measurements were not statistically significant between left- and right-side ears. This study provides key anthropometric measurements of the EAM in a Chinese population which can be used for ergonomic design purposes. Practitioner summary This study provides an available source for anthropometric variations of the external acoustic meatus by age, gender and side in the Chinese population, which can be used as a reference to improve the fit, comfort and function of in-ear wearable devices.Online supplemental material is available for this article.Radiation therapy (RT) continues to be one of the mainstays of cancer treatment. Considerable efforts have been recently devoted to integrating MRI into clinical RT planning and monitoring. This integration, known as MRI-guided RT, has been motivated by the superior soft-tissue contrast, organ motion visualization, and ability to monitor tumor and tissue physiologic changes provided by MRI compared with CT. Offline MRI is already used for treatment planning at many institutions. Furthermore, MRI-guided linear accelerator systems, allowing use of MRI during treatment, enable improved adaptation to anatomic changes between RT fractions compared with CT guidance. Efforts are underway to develop real-time MRI-guided intrafraction adaptive RT of tumors affected by motion and MRI-derived biomarkers to monitor treatment response and potentially adapt treatment to physiologic changes. These developments in MRI guidance provide the basis for a paradigm change in treatment planning, monitoring, and adaptation. Key challenges to advancing MRI-guided RT include real-time volumetric anatomic imaging, addressing image distortion because of magnetic field inhomogeneities, reproducible quantitative imaging across different MRI systems, and biologic validation of quantitative imaging.
