[Effectiveness as well as problems in cancer malignancy palliative home-care companies: a new retrospective cohort review.]
that successful preventive interventions have the potential to improve both population health and reduce costs. Further research is needed to capture a broader array of noncommunicable diseases and to develop more precise estimates.Past research suggests there are systematic associations between oral health and chronic illness among older adults. Although causality has not yet been credibly established, periodontitis has been found to be associated with higher risk of both heart disease and stroke. We advance this literature by estimating the direct association between dental care use and systemic health using multiple waves of the 1992 to 2016 Health and Retirement Study. Through the inclusion of individual fixed effects in our regression models, we account for unobservable time-invariant characteristics of individuals that might otherwise bias estimates of the association between dental care use and health. We find statistically significant negative associations between dental care use and the number of health conditions, self-reported overall health, the incidence of heart disease, and the incidence of stroke. In particular, the use of dental care within the past 2 y is associated with a 2.7% reduction in the likelihood of being diagnosed with a heart condition and a reduction in the likelihood of a stroke diagnosis of between 5.3% and 11.6%. We also find large positive correlations between edentulism and the measures of chronic illness. Associations from models estimated separately for men and women are qualitatively similar to one another. These findings provide additional motivation for the consideration of a Medicare dental benefit.Purpose To compare conventional 360° internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling and temporal inverted ILM flap technique with regard to postoperative foveal displacement. Methods Patients who underwent 23 G vitrectomy with either 360° ILM peeling (Group 1) or temporal inverted ILM technique (Group 2) for idiopathic macular hole with a minimum follow up of 12 months were included. The metamorphopsia rates and distances between fovea and 3 retinal landmarks the first retinal vascular bifurcation or crossover located superonasal and inferonasal to the fovea and ciliary vessel at the temporal margin of the disc, were compared on MultiColor SLO and near-infrared reflectance images. In addition, papillofoveal distance was measured on B-scan optical coherence tomography (OCT).Results A total of 57 eyes were recruited (Group 1, n = 25; Group 2, n = 32). The visual acuity at month-1 was significantly higher in Group 2 than Group 1 (p = .007). A significant postoperative foveal displacement towards the disc was observed in Group 1 and Group 2 (p .05 for all). The complaints of metamorphopsia was significantly higher in Group 1 (n = 18/25) compared with Group 2 (n = 10/32) (p = .002).Conclusion Temporal inverted ILM flap appear to be superior to 360° ILM peeling with regard to faster visual rehabilitation, lower rates of subjective metamorphopsia and less foveal displacement.
The cytokinesis-block micronucleus (MN) assay is a widely used technique in basic radiobiology research, human biomonitoring studies and invitro radiosensitivity testing. Fresh whole blood cultures are commonly used for these purposes, but immediate processing of fresh samples can be logistically challenging. Therefore, we aimed at establishing a protocol for the MN assay on cryopreserved whole blood, followed by a thorough evaluation of the reliability of this assay for use in radiosensitivity assessment in patients.

Whole blood samples of 20 healthy donors and 4 patients with a primary immunodeficiency disease (PID) were collected to compare the results obtained with the MN assay performed on fresh versus cryopreserved whole blood samples. MN yields were scored after irradiation with 220 kV X-rays (dose rate 3 Gy/min), with doses ranging from 0.5-2 Gy.

The application of the MN assay on cryopreserved blood samples was successful in all analyzed samples. The radiation-induced MN and NDI scores in freshe blood samples for application of the MN assay. The data presented here demonstrate that the MN assay performed on cryopreserved whole blood is reliable for radiosensitivity testing. Our results also support its wider use in epidemiological, biomonitoring and genotoxicity studies. The presented method of cryopreservation of blood samples might also benefit other assays.
Latissimus dorsi transfer (LDT) and pectoralis major transfer (PMT) were developed to treat an irreparable subscapularis tendon tear (ISScT); however, the difference in their outcomes remains unclear.

To systematically review and compare the outcomes of LDT and PMT for ISScT.

Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4.

A systematic review was performed through a comprehensive search of Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library. Nedisertib concentration Studies of LDT or PMT were included according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The primary outcome was the Constant-Murley score (CMS) at the final follow-up. Secondary outcomes included the subjective shoulder value (SSV), visual analog scale (VAS) score for pain, active shoulder range of motion, and the belly-press and lift-off tests. Postoperative failure and complication rates were the safety outcome measures. Outcomes were summarized into the LDT and PMT groups, and results were compared statistically (
< .05).

Twelve studies were included in this review 184 sho that LDT might be a better choice for ISScT. Further evaluations on the relative benefits of the 2 surgical approaches are required, with more high-quality randomized controlled studies.
In general, LDT showed significantly better clinical outcomes postoperatively than did PMT. The available fair-quality evidence suggested that LDT might be a better choice for ISScT. Further evaluations on the relative benefits of the 2 surgical approaches are required, with more high-quality randomized controlled studies.
This study explores the views of Finnish school personnel representatives regarding substance use prevention responsibilities.

Twenty-two focus groups were conducted within the scope of a regional intervention study in 2019. Qualitative content analysis was performed.

Focus group interviews were conducted in the school setting.

Focus group participants included representatives for educational personnel and student welfare personnel working in basic education, general upper secondary education or vocational education settings.

Views and experiences concerning roles and responsibilities in primary prevention of substance use.

Findings highlight the need for intersectoral efforts and intra-school collaboration in primary prevention efforts, but also in mental health promotion - on which the informants placed great emphasis. The health promotion leadership in schools, structural guidelines and the school curriculum could both challenge and support school personnel in their roles. An increased need to focus on the early years of life and related responsibilities of the homes was emphasized, along with the need to place more emphasis on health education in the first years of basic education, and responsibilities related to early risk identification.
