This method improves the degree of freedom of active modulation and provides a new route for tunable slow light devices.Three new pyrazolated chalcogenoether ligated Rh(iii) half-sandwich complexes (1-3) were synthesised by the thermal reaction of chalcogenoether (S, Se and Te) substituted 1H-pyrazole ligands (L1-L3) and [(η5-C5Me5)RhCl]2 in methanol. The complexes were fully characterised by various spectroscopic techniques, and the molecular structures of complexes 1 and2 were also established through single crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis, which indicates a pseudo-octahedral half-sandwich piano-stool geometry around the rhodium metal. All three complexes were found to be thermally stable and insensitive towards air and moisture. One mol% of Rh(iii) complexes (1-3) along with 10 mol% of Cu(OAc)2 were explored for the Buchwald-Hartwig type C-N coupling reactions of amine and aryl chloride. Good to excellent yields (89-92%) of the coupling products were obtained with seleno- and thio-ether functionalised pyrazolated Rh(iii) complexes (1 and 2), while an average yield (39%) was obtained with the telluro-ether functionalised complex (3). In contrast to the previously reported C-N coupling reactions the present reaction works under solvent- and base-free conditions, and the coupling reaction is accomplished in just 6 h with a high yield of the coupling product. The present methodology was also found to be efficient for a wide variety of functionalised aryl halides, and aliphatic or aromatic amines (1° and 2°). Moreover, the reaction also enables the C-N coupling of electron-withdrawing substrates and base-sensitive functionalities.What are the prerequisites for acquiring a stable twist-bend nematic phase (NTB)? Addressing this question has led to the synthesis of a vast number of new compounds, concluding each time that the molecule's shape is one of the predominant factors. Inspired by the expanding knowledge of different achiral bent-shaped molecules forming a twist-bend nematic phase, we reinvestigate the interplay between a molecule's bend angle and a molecule's arms molecular biaxiality. Employing our previously developed generalized mean-field model, we explore more obtuse bend angles. We observe direct phase transition sequences between locally biaxial and uniaxial variants of NTB, along with biaxial and uniaxial nematic phases. Additionally, we present a comprehensive overview of how phase diagrams evolve according to alterations in the value of the bend angle and the magnitude of biaxiality.A series of trigonal-shaped molecules (TPyT and TPyP) and a polymer (P2TPy) with donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) structural arrangement were designed with thiophene and 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyridine as the backbone i.e., a 4-(4-(decyloxy)phenyl)-2,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)pyridine core structure, for the first time and synthesized via a microwave assisted one pot reaction. The extension of conjugation of the system by substituting thiophene acrylonitrile (TPyT) and phenyl acrylonitriles (TPyP and P2TPy) via low cost condensation reactions improved the linear optical, electronic and thermal properties of the synthesized compounds. Furthermore, the nonlinear absorption (NLA) was also enriched appreciably by increasing the conjugation. The three compounds showed an "effective two-photon absorption" phenomenon with the NLA coefficient (βeff) of the order of 10-10 m W-1. Moreover, cell experiments showed that the effects of HLC on cell proliferation and migration are mainly caused by its digestion products. These findings indicate that HLC may be used as a nutritional supplement or therapeutic drug to promote the healing of gastric ulcers.
