Psychotic Signs and symptoms in Heroin Drawback: In a situation Statement.
01). CONCLUSION Our study shows that 9.7% of the eyes with ME secondary to DR and RVO developed a rebound phenomenon following IVTA injection, limiting its therapeutic effect. We found an increased number of prior intravitreal pharmacotherapy to be a risk factor for a rebound phenomenon. © 2020 S. Karger AG, Basel.INTRODUCTION The aim of this study is to assess and compare the long-term clinical efficacy of anti-VEGF drugs through the I-Maculaweb registry. METHODS Observational study based on the I-Maculaweb registry. Outcomes measures were the number of injections, the change in mean visual acuity (VA) and central macular thickness (CMT) and the time between diagnosis and the first injection. RESULTS Overall, 126 eyes of 109 patients were included in the study. The mean VA was 49.4 ± 21.4, 54.1 ± 22.2, 51.6 ± 24.9 and 48.3±25.7 letters, respectively at baseline and at 1, 2 and 3 years. A significant increase in VA (p=0.0002 for the first year and p=0.045 for the second year) was documented at years 1 and 2, but not at year 3 (p= 0.8). The mean number of injections was 5.2, 2.6 and 2.3 at the 1, 2 and 3 years, respectively. In the first year, 30% of patients received at least 7 injections, while only 6.4% received less than 3 injections. CMT decreased significantly during the overall follow-up period, with a reduction of intra- and subretinal fluid (p less then 0.0001). CONCLUSION In conclusion, I-maculaweb turned out to be an effective tool in collecting, sharing clinical data and monitoring patients' outcomes. © 2020 S. Karger AG, Basel.BACKGROUND Hospital-acquired viral respiratory tract infections (VRTIs) cause significant morbidity and mortality in neonatal patients. This includes escalation of respiratory support, increased length of hospital stay, and need for home oxygen, as well as higher healthcare costs. To date, no studies have compared population rates of VRTIs across age groups. AIM Quantify the rates of hospital-acquired VRTIs in our neonatal population compared with other inpatient age groups in Nottinghamshire, UK. METHODS We compared all hospital inpatient PCR-positive viral respiratory samples between 2007 and 2013 and calculated age-stratified rates based on population estimates. RESULTS From a population of 4,707,217, we identified a previously unrecognised burden of VRTI in neonatal patients, only second to the 0-1-year-old group. Although only accounting for 1.3% of the population, half of the infections were in infants less then 1 year old and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients. Human rhinovirus was the most dominant virus across the inpatient group, particularly in neonatal patients. Despite a two- to three-fold increase in the rate of positive samples in all groups during the colder months (1.1/1,000 October-March vs. 0.4/1,000 April-September), rates in the NICU did not change throughout the year at 4.3/1,000. Pandemic H1N1 influenza rates were 20 times higher in neonatal patients and infants less then 1 year old. CONCLUSION Good epidemiological and interventional data are needed to help inform visiting and infection control policies to reduce transmission of hospital-acquired viral infections to this vulnerable population, particularly during pandemic seasons. © 2020 S. Karger AG, Basel.BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE Skin diseases, especially those with visible manifestation, are considered to cause a major influence on global mental health. Therefore, we determined the prevalence and severity of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation in a large sample of patients with facial dermatoses, namely acne, rosacea, folliculitis, and perioral dermatitis. METHODS The mental health of patients with facial dermatoses and respective controls was assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and questions concerning suicidal ideation. RESULTS The study included 543 patients with facial dermatoses and 497 healthy individuals. Anxiety was present in 37.6% of the patients (14.9% of controls), depression in 21.7% (6.8%), and suicidal thoughts in 9.8% (3.2%) (p less then 0.001). Acne patients demonstrated the highest anxiety and depression subscale scores (mean ± standard deviation 7.1 ± 0.25, 95% confidence interval (CI) 6.58-7.56; controls 5 ± 0.23, 95% CI 4.57-5.49). In rosacea 30% of the patients had depression symptoms (adjusted odds ratio (OR) 7.216, 95% CI 4.122-12.632, p less then 0.001), while in folliculitis patients 15.4% (OR 3.138, 95% CI 1.241-7.936, p = 0.016) had suicidal thoughts. Patients with anxiety symptoms and suicidal thoughts were on average younger than those without (28.3 ± 0.76 vs. 31.2 ± 0.66 years, p = 0.001 and 25.3 ± 0.98 vs. 30.5 ± 0.55 years, p = 0.007, respectively). CONCLUSION Acne and rosacea are associated with anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation in Lithuanian patients. Younger patients are more prone to report such symptoms than older ones. © 2020 S. Karger AG, Basel.BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Healthy vaginal ecosystem is conserved with the connection of vaginal epithelium and flora in which lactobacilli play a significant role. The present study aimed to examine the effect of lactofem oral probiotic capsule on Lactobacillus colonization and some other vaginal health indices in women aged 18-55 years. MATERIALS AND METHODS This interventional, double-blind controlled clinical trial was conducted on 70 women with Nugent score = 4-6 and vaginal pH >4.5. Rimiducid mouse The participants were divided into an oral probiotic group and a control group. The oral probiotic group was required to take one 500 mg lactofem capsule daily for 2 months, while placebo was prescribed for the control group. Samples from 6 visits were examined during the period of prescription. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software, version 18. RESULTS The results showed no significant difference in the average colonization of vaginal Lactobacillus in the 2 groups before and during the intervention (p = 0.26). Also, no significant difference was observed in the 2 groups' Nugent mean scores before and after the intervention up to the 60th day. However, a statistically significant difference was found in this regard on the 70th day (p = 0.032). Moreover, the results indicated no significant difference in the 2 groups' mean vaginal pH before and after the intervention (p = 0.101). CONCLUSION Lactofem oral capsule could improve the participants' Nugent scores, but caused no change in Lactobacillus colonization or vaginal pH. © 2020 S. Karger AG, Basel.
