Epilepsy remains one of the most common brain disorders, and the different types of epilepsy encompass a wide variety of physiological manifestations. Elacridar cost Clinical and preclinical findings indicate that cerebral blood flow is usually focally increased at seizure onset, shortly after the beginning of ictal events. Nevertheless, many questions remain about the relationship between vasomotor changes in the epileptic foci and the epileptic behavior of neurons and astrocytes. To study this relationship, we performed a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments using the 4-aminopyridine model of epileptic seizures. It was found that in vitro pathological synchronization of neurons and the depolarization of astrocytes is accompanied by rapid short-term vasoconstriction, while in vivo vasodilation during the seizure prevails. We suggest that vasomotor activity during epileptic seizures is a correlate of the complex, self-sustained response that includes neuronal and astrocytic oscillations, and that underlies the clinical presentation of epilepsy. Our aim is to review published studies on dietary interventions to promote healthy eating habits among office workers. The databases PubMed, EBSCO (MEDLINE, Academic Search Elite, CINAHL Plus, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO), Cochrane Library, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar were searched between February and April 2019. Initially, 6647 articles were identified, and the final number of articles that met the inclusion criteria was 25. We identified four different types of interventions that included educational and/or environmental components, where environmental components provided healthy food in a work-related context. The interventions at the offices included web-based material, availability of food, provision of information in various ways, and a combination of environmental, educational and theory-based psychological approaches (i.e., multicomponent). The most commonly used designs were web-based and information interventions, respectively, which are the least expensive ways to intervene. The interventions assessed a range of outcomes, but this literature review focused on three, i.e., dietary intake, dietary behavior and health-related outcomes. Although the studies were heterogenous in terms of outcomes, design, number of participants, gender distribution and duration, all studies reported at least one positive effect. Thus, workplace dietary interventions are an unutilized area to positively influence dietary intake and health outcomes among office workers. However, the intervention needs to be tailored to the workplace.Members of the AP2/ERF transcription factor family play critical roles in plant development, biosynthesis of key metabolites, and stress response. A detailed study was performed to identify TtAP2s/ERFs in the durum wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum) genome, which resulted in the identification of 271 genes distributed on chromosomes 1A-7B. By carrying 27 genes, chromosome 6A had the highest number of TtAP2s/ERFs. Furthermore, a duplication assay of TtAP2s/ERFs demonstrated that 70 duplicated gene pairs had undergone purifying selection. According to RNA-seq analysis, the highest expression levels in all tissues and in response to stimuli were associated with DRF and ERF subfamily genes. In addition, the results revealed that TtAP2/ERF genes have tissue-specific expression patterns, and most TtAP2/ERF genes were significantly induced in the root tissue. Additionally, 13 TtAP2/ERF genes (six ERFs, three DREBs, two DRFs, one AP2, and one RAV) were selected for further analysis via qRT-PCR of their potential in coping with drought and salinity stresses. The TtAP2/ERF genes belonging to the DREB subfamily were markedly induced under both drought-stress and salinity-stress conditions. Furthermore, docking simulations revealed several residues in the pocket sites of the proteins associated with the stress response, which may be useful in future site-directed mutagenesis studies to increase the stress tolerance of durum wheat. This study could provide valuable insights for further evolutionary and functional assays of this important gene family in durum wheat.18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) is usually used for staging or evaluation of treatment response rather than for cancer screening. However, 18F-FDG PET/CT has also been used in Japan for cancer screening in people with no cancer symptoms, and accumulating evidence supports this application of 18F-FDG PET/CT. Previously, we have observed a correlation between the saliva and tumor metabolomic profiles in patients with oral cancer. Hence, if salivary metabolites demonstrate a significant correlation with PET parameters such as the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), they may have the potential to be used as a screening tool before PET/CT to identify patients with high SUVmax. Hence, in this study, we aimed to explore the relationship between salivary metabolites and SUVmax of 18F-FDG PET/CT using previously collected data. 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed for staging 26 patients with oral cancer. The collected data were integrated and analyzed along with quantified salivary hydrophilic metabolites obtained from the same patients with oral cancer and controls (n = 44). In total, 11 metabolites showed significant correlations with SUVmax in the delayed phases. A multiple logistic regression model of the two metabolites showed the ability to discriminate between patients with oral cancer and controls, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.738 (p = 0.001). This study uniquely confirmed a relationship between salivary metabolites and SUVmax of PET/CT in patients with oral cancer; salivary metabolites were significantly correlated with SUVmax. These salivary metabolites can be used as a screening tool before PET/CT to identify patients with high SUVmax, i.e., to detect the presence of oral cancer.Geminiviruses possess single-stranded, circular DNA genomes and control the transcription of their late genes, including BV1 of many bipartite begomoviruses, through transcriptional activation by the early expressing AC2 protein. DNA binding by AC2 is not sequence-specific; hence, the specificity of AC2 activation is thought to be conferred by plant transcription factors (TFs) recruited by AC2 in infected cells. However, the exact TFs AC2 recruits are not known for most viruses. Here, we report a systematic examination of the BV1 promoter (PBV1) of the mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) for conserved promoter motifs. We found that MYMV PBV1 contains three abscisic acid (ABA)-responsive elements (ABREs) within its first 70 nucleotides. Deleting these ABREs, or mutating them all via site-directed mutagenesis, abolished the capacity of PBV1 to respond to AC2-mediated transcriptional activation. Furthermore, ABRE and other related ABA-responsive elements were prevalent in more than a dozen Old World begomoviruses we inspected.
