Proposal for the following things:
1. EQUITY RESEARCH---- Identify a community that would benefit from diy renewable electricity source.
a. How would it improve their life? How will it make thier lives more fuctional and help them thrive?
b. What kinds of challenges do they face due to lack of electricity right now?
c. What is the location in the world that you are addressing (must be in a developing country)? Be as specific as you can.
d. What are some of the general challenges their community faces due to poverty right now? How do you think this will improve their situation if you introduce your energy source.
2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
PART 1 Fan
a. Learn how electricity and circuits work by building your own fan, make sure it is functional.
b. Write a letter to a philanthropist that includes your budget so that you can get the parts you need.
c. Create a presentation on what you built and how you built it and the working result.
Part 2 Wind Turbine
a. Design and test your own wind turbine either individually or with a group. Test different designs and then identify which one work the best and why.
Part 3 Solar Source
a. Design and test your own solar power either individually or with a group. Test different designs and then identify which one work the best and why.
Part 4 Geothermal Energy-- Research about and write a brief article on geothermal energy and the future of it.
Part 4 Read your parents energy bill- Write a short reflection about what you learned about how energy is consumed and priced in your area, what kinds of ethical challenges do some people face when trying to afford power? Is elcetricity essential for life in most cities? Why?
3. Using Kinetic Energy or Solar Power to create a kit
Your task after learning about various types of energy is to design a product that would be helpful to people in places that lack electricity.
It MUST be cost-effective.
It must be made sustainability- Research what local resources exist in the community you are trying to help, so that your kit can be easily assembled by that community without many materials needing to be purchased and sourced from abroad
Must fit into a box of your choice
Must calculate how much energy it produces in kWH (kilowatthours)
4. Prepare a pitch presentation with all of the above! Make sure you can convince others that your idea will work. Calculate the potential impact on the community in terms of the following:
-- How much will their lives improves (must include data based evidence)
-- How much will it reduce energy costs?
-- How will it improve their health (consider health care costs dropping)
-- How will it improve their local economy (show data on jobs and industries, exports and imports) make a prediction about how those numbers might change and why you think so.
-- How will it improve overall quality of life for each family (ex: impacting student education, etc.)
-- What is the cost of sourcing, making, distributing your kit, and what is the price you intend to make it? How is it affordable for that community?
