The blood wicking dynamics on the fabric in the majority of the first wicking stage can be well described by a simple scaling [Formula see text] , where ti marks the end of the inertial impact stage. The wicking coefficient C, which represents the influence of droplet impact on the subsequent droplet wicking, is found to scale as C∼We-0.34. In the end, brief comments are provided regarding (1) the influence of the evaporation on the blood drop post-impact wicking dynamics and (2) the shape of bloodstains formed on fabrics, with a few suggested research directions for future work. The Second Republic of Austria was established after the Second World War. As a former part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and subsequently Nazi Germany, its history is strongly shaped by two world wars and the deaths of millions of people. The handling of human remains and graves of victims of National Socialist terror, members of the armed forces of nations participating in the world wars as well as civilian casualties that are located on today's federal territory, has been regulated by law since 1948. The responsibility officially lies with the Federal Ministry of the Interior / Department for War Graves Services. In practice, various institutions and interest groups have been involved in the identification and maintenance of so-called "war graves" and the recovery of human remains. This article aims to provide a brief outline of the current legal situation in Austria and discusses varying practices of handling war graves by presenting historical and recent examples.Identification of an individual is the prime object in forensic case works both in civil or criminal situations like paternity/maternity disputes, sexual assaults, murder, mass disaster victims etc. STR analysis has already proved its potential to give accurate results. In addition to autosomal chromosomes, sex determination at many times is crucial in forensic situations, especially in situations like rape cases or in cases of missing persons. The chances of wrong interpretations may arise due to false detection (or non-detection) of STR fragments overall or only at amelogenin-specific fragments, in situation like mutations, intersex conditions, trans-sexualism etc., due to natural or artificial chimersim. The forensic relevance of the possible misinterpretation of STR's or amelogenin should never be underestimated. The present study was carried out to identify an individual using Y-STR in sex mismatch patients who received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a method to replace patient's stem cell with the stem cell donated by the donor preferably biological related in order to cure malignant and non malignant diseases. This study enrolled ten female patients of HSCT. Samples were collected as pre and post transplant after 15 days, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days of time interval from sex mismatch patient (female) and from donor (male) and chimeric status of the patient was analyzed using Y-STR markers (23 loci). Results demonstrated that donor genotype existed in blood and buccal swab of the recipient but no genetic profile existed for Y-STR in hair follicle of the recipient. This study suggests that only hair follicle out of three biological samples tested serves as reliable source of recipient's origin after HSCT for accurate personal identification especially in forensic situations. In the field of questioned document examinations, the disadvantages of qualitative examination based on expert experience are becoming more and more obvious. In the source determination of laser-printed documents, the quantitative evaluation based on image quality is more and more important. In this paper, the ImageXpert was used to measure 33 characteristic parameters which are used to characterize the characteristics of laser-printed documents. The laser-printed documents were effectively distinguished using the random forest algorithm and the scatter plots. BSJ-03-123 The data of random forest algorithm and scatter plots were derived from the measurement of the ImageXpert. The results showed that it was feasible to determine the source of the laser-printed documents according to the physical metrics of images and lines. The different brands of printers used in the experiment could be distinguished according to 33 characteristic parameters, and most laser printers of the same brand with different models can also be distinguished. The research results lay a certain foundation for the quantitative examination of laser-printed documents, especially in the determination of page-substitution document and content-addition document. This cross-sectional study investigated associations between cognitive dietary restraint (CDR), energy, macronutrient and food group intake, menstrual function, and bone density in female adolescent endurance runners. Participants were forty female adolescent endurance runners. The independent variable was CDR, as assessed by the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ). Runners with CDR subscale scores ≥11 were classified with elevated CDR. The main outcomes measured were dietary intake measured by 24-hour recall for 7 days, menstrual history, and bone mineral density (BMD). Twelve of 40 participants (30.0%) met criteria for elevated CDR. Compared to runners with normal CDR, runners with elevated CDR scores reported consuming lower energy (kcal/kg/day) (37.5 ± 8.6 vs. 44.0 ± 9.6, p = 0.052), lower carbohydrate (g/kg/day) (5.3 ± 1.3 vs. 6.3 ± 1.3, p = 0.042), more fiber (g/day) (24.9 ± 6.7 vs. 20.0 ± 5.3, p = 0.018), more servings of fruit (3.3 ± 1.4 vs. 1.9 ± 1.2, p = 0.003), more servings of vegetables (2.7 ± 1.4 vs. 1.7 ± 0.7, p = 0.004), and fewer servings of grain (7.6 ± 2.4 vs. 9.8 ± 2.4, p = 0.009) per day. Runners with elevated CDR exhibited significantly lower lumbar spine BMD Z-scores (adjusting for BMI) (-0.78 ± 0.19 vs. -0.22 ± 0.12, p = 0.016) than runners with normal CDR. Menstrual history did not significantly differ based on CDR status. Elevated CDR may increase risk of dietary patterns associated with consuming inadequate levels of energy, key nutrients, and developing low BMD in endurance runners. Trial RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT01059968.
