A descriptive analysis was conducted with consideration of the effect of demographic variables on knowledge and attitudes about EBP.Result Malaysian speech-language pathologists (n = 98) displayed more positive attitudes toward EBPs, with a significantly higher (t (143) = 5.91, p less then .01) total mean score (Mean = 120.7, SD = 11) compared to the Japanese speech-language pathologists (n = 47, Mean = 107.8, SD = 13.5). Malaysian practitioners who were female, worked full-time, and worked in government settings reported higher motivation to develop EBP skills. Japanese practitioners who worked in private sectors reported higher EBPs training needs than those in government settings. In both countries, speech-language pathologists with higher education levels tended to express fewer perceived barriers towards EBP.Conclusion Findings could help local governance and speech-language pathologist associations to understand the current practices and professional development needs of speech-language pathologists, leading to more effective training programs and educating employers and managers who can reinforce EBP among practitioners.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening inherited disease caused by mutations in the gene encoding the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein, an anion channel expressed at the apical membrane of secretory epithelia. CF leads to multiorgan dysfunction with progressive deterioration of lung function being the major cause of untimely death. Conventional CF therapies target only symptoms and consequences downstream of the primary genetic defect and the current life expectancy and quality of life of these individuals are still very limited.

CFTR modulator drugs are novel-specialized therapies that enhance or even restore functional expression of CFTR mutants and have been approved for clinical use for individuals with specific CF genotypes. This review summarizes classical approaches used for the pre-clinical development of CFTR correctors and potentiators as well as emerging strategies aiming to accelerate modulator development and expand theratyping efforts.

Highly effective CFTR modulator drugs are expected to deeply modify the disease course for the majority of individuals with CF. A multitude of experimental approaches have been established to accelerate the development of novel modulators. CF patient-derived specimens are valuable cell models to predict therapeutic effectiveness of existing (and novel) modulators in a precision medicine approach.

Previous studies have shown that light-dark cycle misalignment induces damages to semen quality in animals, but whether shift work impairs male human fertility remains controversial. The diverse types of shift work, which may have distinct health impacts, have not been differentiated in the few previous studies. The present study aims to assess the impact of different male shift work types, i.e., rotating shift work (RSW), permanent shift work (PSW), and daily split shifts (DSS), on male fertility in European countries, based on the European Working Conditions Survey of 54,734 men and 52,457 women of reproductive (15-49 years) age from 35 countries conducted between 2000 and 2015. Year-specific total fertility rate (TFR) for each country was obtained from the World Bank. Mixed linear model was used to analyze the association between the prevalence of shift work types and TFR among DSS, may reduce TFR. Further studies are needed to validate our findings.School-based relationship education programs offer an opportunity to identify youth who are experiencing teen dating violence (TDV), support their safety, and connect them with individualized services or referrals. However, no research has tested the feasibility or accuracy of approaches to create opportunities for TDV disclosure in the context of school-based programs. The current study presents the results of a field test comparing three tools used to provide opportunities for TDV disclosure (two questionnaire-style tools and one universal education discussion guide). High school students from two federally funded healthy marriage and relationship education (HMRE) program sites (N = 648) were offered the three tools in random order over the course of the HMRE program, which lasted between 3 weeks and 3 months and took place during the school day. Onsite qualitative interviews with HMRE program staff and their local domestic violence program partners assessed how service providers saw the tools and the process of implementing them. Latent class models examined the accuracy of the tools in identifying TDV. Sensitivities of the tools were low and specificities were high; the questionnaire-style tools tended to have higher sensitivities and fewer classification errors than the universal education tool. Several three-item combinations from across the tools performed better than any intact tool, suggesting that shorter assessments may be effective, provided they include items on sexual coercion and physical violence. Qualitative findings suggested that implementation of TDV assessment and universal education in school settings is a viable strategy, provided programs are able to gain support from school staff, adapt to tight time constraints, and plan procedures for protecting student privacy and confidentiality.
