Background Few published studies exist to describe the off-label use of multiple-dose fosfomycin for outpatient treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (UTI). The purpose of this study was to characterize the patients, infections, drug susceptibilities, and outcomes of multiple-dose fosfomycin episodes for outpatient UTI treatment. Methods This retrospective study evaluated patients who received an outpatient prescription for multiple-dose fosfomycin between July 1999 and June 2018. Multiple-dose fosfomycin prescriptions dispensed for UTI prophylaxis were excluded. The primary outcome was clinical resolution (complete resolution of signs and symptoms) of infection within 30 days. Secondary outcomes included descriptions of antibiotics and cultures before and after treatment, 30-day bacteriologic resolution (posttreatment urine culture less then 103 colony-forming units of the original pathogen), and 90-day healthcare utilizations for UTI or pyelonephritis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statiious Diseases Society of America. Objectives Research on Minorities' Diminished Returns (MDRs) has shown higher than expected substance use (tobacco and alcohol use) in middle-class Hispanic and Black youth and adults. In theory, some of this more than expected risk might be due to the high substance use problem of the social network. To better understand the role of social network as an explanatory mechanism behind higher than expected substance use of middle-class Hispanic and Black youth, this study tested MDRs of parental educational attainment on substance use involvement of biological relatives in Hispanic and Black middle-class youth, we compared ethnic groups for effects of parental educational attainment on the substance use involvement of biological relatives among American youth. Methods Current longitudinal study used waves 1 and wave 4 data of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health- Adolescents (PATH; 2013-2018) study. The sample included 4264 nationally representative American youth who were followed for 4 years. The ine involvement of biological relatives, this protective effect is weaker for Hispanic than non-Hispanic youth. That means, substance use involvement of biological relatives is still high in middle-class Hispanic youth, which increases their risk of substance use. Future research should explore societal and contextual factors that cayuse MDRs of parental educational attainment on substance use of middle-class Hispanic families.New digital technologies can have a huge impact on the traditional healthcare sector, both from a clinical and economic perspective. Doctors and health specialists will increasingly need technology to improve the services they provide to their patients. Here a novel patented device for automatic processing of clinical data of chronic poly-pathological patients is presented. The invention consists of a reconfigurable equipment that allows the assessment of clinical risk severity indexes that can be customized for polypathological patients and which acts both as a decision support system for specialist doctors in the diagnosis and treatment phases, and as a monitoring system in the clinical environment. Background Flebogrif® (Balton, Poland) is a novel mechanochemical ablation (MOCA) device for saphenous vein insufficiency. It combines endothelial damage performed by radial retractable cutting hooks together with chemical ablation through sclerosant injection of 3% polidocanol foam according to its IFU. The objective of this study is to evaluate Flebogrif's efficacy in terms of recanalization rate and recurrence by varying polidocanol foam concentrations. selleckchem Methods We performed 24 MOCAs on 23 patients with Flebogrif® between January and May 2019. In 12 cases the polidocanol foam was prepared at a 3% concentration, and in another 12 at 1.5%. Great saphenous vein (GSV) recanalization and truncular recurrence were evaluated at 1 and 3 months with a Duplex Ultrasound Anatomy (DUS) examination. Results At 1- and 3-month follow-ups, none of the 14 patients treated with the polidocanol 3% foam were observed to have had great saphenous vein GSV recanalization and truncular recurrence. Only 2 of the 14 (14.3%) cases treated with polidocanol 1.5% foam showed evidence of recanalization within the first centimetres from the sapheno-femoral junction (p > .05). All patients experienced clinical benefits without recurrence of symptoms. Conclusion MOCA with Flebogrif® is a safe, relatively inexpensive and effective alternative to standard methods in the treatment of saphenous insufficiency with encouraging short-term results. Despite our relatively small patient sample, no statistical significance in evidence of recurrence in the group of patients treated with 3% foam and those treated with 1.5% foam was noted. Longer term analysis of GSV patency and recurrence is necessary to further evaluate Flebogrif's impact and actual indications in the treatment of chronic venous disease.Nowadays patients affected by deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) are studied widely but the challenge for physicians is when and how they are to be treated. Most patients present serious comorbidities that can potentially make treatment difficult. An increasing cohort of patients cannot be treated with systemic fibrinolysis but fortunately today, physicians can utilize a number of different instruments to resolve acute DVT and PE.The first line approach for subclavian steal syndrome is PTA-stenting of subclavian artery. When the ipsilateral vertebral artery origin is involved or in closed proximity of the atherosclerotic lesion in the subclavian artery PTA-stenting is at risk of ipsilateral vertebral artery coverage. Herein we report our experience with DEB to address lesions involving the subclavian artery and the origin of the ipsilateral vertebral artery. From January 2017 to February 2019, patients presenting subclavian artery lesion involving the origin of the ipsilateral vertebral artery and treated using primary DEB, were included. Three patients, with left subclavian steal syndrome, were identified. The perioperative mortality and morbidity were outcomes evaluated. Freedom from occlusion, secondary patency, amputation rate was registered. A total of 3 (2 female) patients were included in the study. No complication, symptoms recurrence, restenosis or occlusion were reported at duplex scan during 12-month follow-up. Indication for stenting was arterial dissection.
